The Activities and Recreation Center offers Judo classes on Mondays and Wednesdays from 5:00PM to 6:30PM. The class is instructed by Sensei David H. This class teaches falling techniques, throws, and a few joint-locks as well as Judo etiquette. There is minimal to no sparring. Some might find this a little too "gentle" for their liking. If this Judo class is too slow-paced for you and you prefer a baptism in fire, you might want to check out the Davis Judo Team, which really is anything but the "gentle way."

If you watch olympic judo matches, they are an example of applying the art of Judo, the gentle way. For those who understand Judo and have studied it for many years, shai, judo competition, marks the ultimate test of your knowledge. Until you can throw or submit a resisting opponent your knowledge of the throw is limited. After the age of competition, Kata is practiced but only by those who have the competition knowledge of the throws. The Davis Judo Team will begin your training in Judo and your understanding of the gentle way. Judo is the second most practiced sport in the world; right after soccer. We hold joint workouts and participate in tournaments with all the Judo clubs in northern California who produce judo competitors.
