My dog also has a mass cell tumor, that was estimated at acorn 3-4 thousand dollars flying in all sorts of special surgeons and basically scaring me into paying that large amount. The local vet i took to for 2nd opinion estimated only 1000$ Using the latest lazer technology to perform the surgery. I said this was great news, and the Vet ask me to get the blood panal work from when i took him to Acorn to fix his ear. Guess what? THEY NEVER TOOK A BLOOD PANAL WORK!!! AND THE PUT MY DOG UNDER ANESTHESIA, WHICH COULD POTENTIALLY KILL HIM IF THEY DID NOT MAKE SURE HIS BLOOD WORK WAS ALRIGHT FOR ANESTHESIA. This really pissed me off but i havent even touched the tip of the ice-berg. Aside from not following proper protocal and aside from charging 4-5times as much as other clinics, Acorn also told me very contridictory things. IE the location of the tumor is in a very dangerous spot and in a very hard to remove in that area (which is why the costs are so high)... 2nd opionion vet: "The area is actaully in a very good location since there is a lot of surface area to work on". Aside from the tumor the new Vet doctor i took him to see, also said the Hematoma in his ear is actaully very simple to repair, where at Acorn... they pretty much tip-toed around it saying Hematoma in dog's ears are very complicated to handle. Back to the tumor... Acorn also does not perform the tumor removal there, which further my point they do not know what they talking about at all!! at the new vet i am taking him to in cupertino will do the surgery all there with latest lazer technology, "NO SPECIALTY SURGEONS NEEDED". To sum up this comment. BEWARE OF ACORN!! DO NOT TAKE YOUR DOG THERE!! IF YOU DO GET A SECOND OPINION!!!. THEY DO NOT CHECK BLOOD WORK BEFORE ANESTHEISA (WHICH COULD POTENTIALLY KILL YOUR PET), THOUGH THE COSTS WILL BE THE SAME AT OTHER VETS THAT DO!!!. IT TOOK 2 REPAIRS OF 1000$ TO FIX HIS HEMATOMA WHICH THEY DID NOT EVEN FIX!!!!! AT THE NEW VET, THEY ESTIMATED 1200$ TO FIX THE HEMATOMA + THE TUMOR (WHICH THEY ESTIMATED ALONE TO BE 3-4 THOUSAND). THEY WILL SCARE YOU WITH THERE UNKNOWLEDGEABLE GUESS'S INTO THINKING HOW SERIOUS THE MATTER IS, AND THAN TAG ON A BILL 3-4 TIMES MORE THAN USUAL. THEY USE OUTDATED METHODS. THIS IS ONLY GOING TO BE ONE OF THE POSTS I AM DOING. I AM MAKING SURE PET OWNERS KNOW HOW BAD ACORN VET HOSPITAL IS. IF YOU DO TAKE YOUR PET TO ACORN, I BEG YOU TO GET A 2ND OPNION FROM A DIFFERENT VET BEFORE DOING SO. WORDS TO ACORN ... F**K YOU!!! I HOPE YOUR PRACTICE GETS SHUT DOWN. When they took the sample test of the tumor, they used a asprinthe needle to poke it and test it... My pet rat supposedly had cancer (according to the Woodland vet) but before I considered the Woodland Vet clinic, I saw one of the Vets at Acorn (because it was my regular Vet) and she said that my rat probably had an infection and prescribed antibiotics. Well the night my rat died, I rushed him to the Woodland ER and it turned out he didn't have an infection, he had cancer that had already spread so it was too late and we euthanized him. We chose this clinic, because their vets came highly recommended by the Sacramento branch of the House Rabbit Society. We called when the office opened and were given an appointment an hour later. Dr. Codino was very nice and extremely knowledgeable about rabbits (having owned several herself!). She recommended we administer IV fluids at home, and stayed in the examination room (along with the vet tech) to help us learn how to insert the IV and answer plenty of rabbit-related questions. Overall, the visit was very inexpensive (including the IV supplies), and our bunny was feeling better within an hour of the visit.
