This article states that the lighting system "put[s] out a combined 100-foot candlepower." The foot-candle is a (retarded) unit of luminous intensity. This is perfectly meaningless to us. We want to know the quantity of light the system puts out, luminous flux, which is normally measured in lumens. Just to show how silly this measurement is, the brightest flashlight I own can produce a luminous intensity of greater than 300 foot-candles at 1 m. Do these lights pwn my flashlight? Yeah, they do. But numbers like this don't show it. Perhaps they mean that the lights produce a luminous intensity of 100 foot-candles on the field? If that is the case, they should say so. That being said, based on the numbers in that article, I'd expect the lighting system to put out anywhere from 15 to 30 Mlm. For comparison, the standard police 3 D-cell maglight puts out about 75 lm on fresh batteries. —WilliamLewis
