So, as a helpful guide of what no to do at a pub/bar, here is a helpful guide along with some of the potential penalties.

='''Drinkers Beware'''=

'''False Identification''':

A constant problem at bars is the use of false identification. This includes forged documents or real documents belonging to someone other than yourself as well as oral identification. Some believe that security and/or door personnel have no legal right to confiscate and destroy these documents, you are mistaken, check with your local police precinct. Use of Identification in this manner, whether real or fake, will also involve the authorities and may include criminal and/or civil penalties.

* If a false I.D. card is found, whether it be a fake driver's license, passport, visa, student ID, or any other type of ID card, it will be confiscated and destroyed. Depending on the circumstances and attitudes of both yourself and the security and/or door personnel, the authorities will be called and charges filed. These charges may result in hefty fines and/or jail-time.
* If any of the aforementioned types of identification are real but do not belong to you they will be confiscated and destroyed and may result in the same penalties listed above.
* Declaring yourself to be an attorney, or other officer of the law. This is not only illegal and may include criminal charges and/or fines, but may also lead to expulsion from the UCD School system. This is a large problem in the Davis community and it is guaranteed that this is explained on day one in any school of law program. If you live in Davis and plan on finishing law school here, don't do it.

'''Smoking''':

There will almost always be smokers near the local bars. There will also always be non-smokers present. Cities around the nation have instituted regulations regarding this issue and due to these regulations the following violations are easy ways to a warning, removal from the premises or potential jail-time and fines.

* In Davis, it is against city ordinance to smoke not only within 20 feet of any doorway or business, but also within any enclosure at a business including gated and non gated patios. If you light up a cigarette on the premises you will be asked politely, in most locations, to either extinguish the cigarette/cigar/pipe or to take it outside. If you continue to refuse, odds are you will find yourself outside the front gate anyway and in a much less than polite fashion.
* If, when asked to go outside of the patio area to finish your cigarette or to extinguish it altogether, flicking the cigarette at the bouncers is not an acceptable option. This is technically assault and you run the risk of not only be removed from the premises but having the authorities become involved as well. Is it truly worth potential jail-time and fines to do this? Most likely it is not worth it.
* While smoking may be legal, smoking Marijuana and other non-tobacco substances are, to date, still not legal. Do not smoke these substances on or around the premises. Odds are, it will be confiscated and the authorities will be called while you are detained.

'''Drinking too much''':

We have all experienced this either through our friends or our own actions. If it appears you have had too much to drink you might not be able to enter the bar, may be asked politely to leave or may just be asked to drink some water or other substance so you may sober up a bit. This is for your safety as well as others around you. Try not to take it personally. There are always going to be certain things associated with drinking too much, and each of these things has varying penalties.

* Oral excrement, aka- vomit, puke, throat torpedoes, personal salsa: Oral excrement, prior to contrary belief is a sign of alcohol poisoning. It's your body telling you to knock it off and go home to rest. If you find yourself vomiting it is time to stop drinking. Please do so or the staff will help you do so in kind or unkind ways.
* Vomiting on the grounds or in area other than the toilets will not only have you removed from the premises but may also include a ride, at your expense, via ambulance to the local hospital or via police car to the local jail.
* Passing out on the premises will lead to multiple potential outcomes for both you and the bar. Passing out, or losing consciousness, is another sign of alcohol poisoning. Your body is forcing itself to shut down to prevent further poisoning from occurring. If anyone finds you passed out, staff or customers, an attempt will be made to wake you and it will lead to multiple potential outcomes.
* You will be removed from the premises. You can no longer control your own body as evidenced by your loss of consciousness, and will be asked to leave IF the staff are able to wake you. If necessary and there is no other option, a cab may be called to take you home.
* If the staff are unable to wake you or you are unable to provide information in regards to where you reside or have no one present who can help to ensure your safety the authorities will be called. If this occurs, multiple potential outcomes are involved.
* You may be taken to the hospital where a forced detox is enforced including a stomach pump and hefty fees for both the ambulance service and whatever procedures and/or medicines provided.
* You may be taken to jail which incurs several potential fines, court appearances and potential criminal records for those involved.
* Potential for the establishment to fine you for clean-up, cab fares or any other potential damages involved.
* Depending on the severity of the alcohol poisoning potential fines and/or other punitive measures on the establishment and/or it's staff.

'''Violence or other unwanted physical actions''':

Violence and/or other unwanted physical actions include: Touching, pushing, grabbing, groping, handling, fondling, kissing, hugging, or any other form of physical action that is not mutually acceptable to all involved parties. Sexual activities are never allowed, nor is fighting. Any of these potential actions may lead to varying degrees of punitive measures.

* Fighting will not only lead to all parties being removed from the premises but may also lead to personal injury, potential criminal charges and jail-time and possibly hospital fees. It is not accepted at any bar in Davis or in many other areas. Some believe the security personal has no right to become violent with individuals but this is not the case, justified force may be used by any personnel involved with security to restrain or incapacitate up to and including tasers, handcuffs, batons, and other physical actions used for the purpose of defense or restraint.
* Fighting will have you removed form the premises.
* Potential for the police and/or other emergency personnel to become involved.
* Potential for criminal charges and fines.
* Potential for fees to take care of property damages and/or staff medical fees.
* Potential for civil and/or criminal penalties not expressed above.
* Potential for banning (being 86'ed) from the establishment.
* Sexual Harassment- this includes fondling, touching, grabbing, groping, or expressing a desire to do any of the aforementioned and/or other activities to any person who is not welcoming these expressions and/or actions. The bars are there for everyone to enjoy safely and comfortably. Others may not have the same desires you do and once in a while people will attempt to cross the line, when this happens several things may occur:
* Sexual harassment will have you removed from the premises with no questions asked.
* Potential for fines and or civil penalties, if not criminal.
* Potential for permanent banning (being 86'ed) from the establishment.
* Potential for other civil or criminal penalties not expressed above.

'''Other actions or activities''':

* Disrespecting any of the staff whether they be security personnel, bar-staff, wait-staff or any other employee will be grounds to have you removed from the premises. This includes but is not limited to:
* Drawing genitalia on credit card receipts: Not only is it tacky, it is also extremely disrespectful. While you may be slightly inebriated, you still have the ability to show basic human courtesy and will be treated with such unless you do something this crude.
* Referring to any female staff members as anything other than their name, Miss, Ms. or use of any vulgar title will have you cut off from the bar and also removed from the premises.
* Unwanted requests or expressed desires fall into the Sexual Harassment category- see above.
* Cursing out the staff, while it may happen, is frowned upon and may lead to being cut off from the bar, removal from the premises or permanent banning (being 86'ed) from the establishment.
* Urinating or defecating anywhere other than the toilets will lead to removal from the premises, potential fines for clean up and other potential criminal and/or civil charges. If one wishes to exit the premises in any way other than the front gate, this is one way to make that choice an option. Not only is this extremely crude, it is also good enough to get the authorities involved and you will have an extremely good chance on making onto the sex offender's list for various reasons up to and including lewd and lascivious conduct, public exposure or any other number of things. Is it truly worth handling your "equipment" in public in this fashion?
* Drawing genitalia or anything else on your credit card slip before handing it to the bar staff. Hint: It has your name on it. You will be removed form the premises, potentially banned (86'ed), and it may also fall into the sexual harassment category (see above).
* Theft of any items, personal or business, will lead to arrest, potential criminal and/or civil penalties and banning from the premises.
* Vandalism. Destroying or defacing any property is vandalism and, if caught, various civil and/or criminal charges and fines will be a very high potential.

These are very basic things you do not want to do when visiting a bar. They happen every single day at many different establishments and continue to be a problem. The bars are there for your enjoyment. They are there for everyone to enjoy themselves and their friends in a social environment.

Be nice to your bars and their staff members and they will be nice to you.
