Candidate Statement
STUDENT GOVERNMENT AND FRESHMAN REPRESENTATION: Give the freshman body a louder voice and promote freshmen interests. in Student Government. Most freshmen students are unaware of ASUCD, and yet they are the ones most strongly affected by its decisions, as they will be here the longest. I will work to bring amnesty to peaceful student groups on campus involved in active criticism concerning the fee hikes. Let us not forget the excessive spending and undemocratic policing the University has resorted to over the course of the last few months. I will work to Increase transparency in ASUCD affairs. Even though the reports of Senate meetings, for example, are made public, few read them or even know about them outside of ASUCD. Actively publicizing these reports will ensure students are involved in financial decisions affecting them.
LOW INCOME HOUSING: Provide AFFORDABLE on campus student housing. Not only are freshmen forced to live in overpriced campus dorm rooms, but the only affordable forms of on campus housing – the student Cooperatives and the Domes – are faced with the threat of closure by Student Housing. STUDENT SERVICES: Extend the operational hours of the Tipsy taxi Service and raise the frequency of UNITRANS buses. UC Davis prides itself on its car free campus, and yet, support for this vital service has been greatly dwindling. Re-allocate budget to prevent the slashing of student services, including operating hours of the ARC and the Shields Library, which are certain to be affected by the recent budget cuts. Work for better, more AVAILABLE and more diverse classes. As class availability and quality drop, the current and future freshmen will find it harder to graduate in 4 years, all the while paying a greater tuition fee.
SUSTAINABILITY: Work with Student Housing to ensure higher sustainability among freshmen students on campus by reforming the recycling process in the dorms.
