Cal Aggie Christian Association, more commonly known as CA House1, is a Spiritual Organization just off the UC Davis campus at the end of California Avenue on Russell The heart of CA House's program is a student dinner/meeting on Wednesday nights at 6 pm. All students who are open minded, respectful, and willing to share and to learn are warmly welcome.

From the website: CA House is the home of the Cal Aggie Christian Association, the campus ministry at the University of California, Davis, on behalf of the northern California and Nevada churches of the Presbyterian (USA), United Church of Christ, and United Methodist denominations. CA House is a diverse, open community offering opportunities for spirituality, study, service, social action, and fellowship.

CA House is an active participant in the Interfaith Campus Council at UC Davis. CA House is a long running ministry to students in Davis, dating back to at least the early 1930s, if not earlier (source: California Aggie).

Multifaith Living Community

caboard.jpgOne of CA House's A-frame signs near the Memorial Union.

CA House is [WWW]planning to develop its property on Russell Boulevard into a Multifaith Living Community. There is an empty lot behind the main building, and the plan is to construct six townhouses there for students to live in, providing space for an innovative multifaith community to promote peace and justice.

The Elmwood Neighborhood Association [WWW]sued the City of Davis in January 2005 to stop the project after it was approved with many amendments to accommodate the neighbors by the Davis City Council. In response to the [WWW]lawsuit, which many believe was a classic case of NIMBY-ism, The Aggie printed an [WWW]editorial criticising the neighborhood association for trying to alienate the city's students. On December 9, 2005, the Yolo County Superior Court denied the lawsuit. At the end of March 2006, the neighborhood association appealed the decision, delaying possible construction until at the earliest summer 2007.

2005-03-18 15:49:26   The word compound make me think of Waco... however the purposed complex sounds kind of like a religious real world, where people of different faith start getting real about religion. All jokes aside, the idea of a muli-faith complex with people working on breaking down boundaries sound really cool. —JimSchwab

2005-03-18 23:28:36   haha. It does sound like that. That is pretty funny. I could do without it though. —GeorgeLewis

2009-10-13 17:11:12   Not sure where to put this, but as a warning to drivers, please watch out for pedestrians and cyclists crossing the street from California to CA House/vice versa. It is a recognized and marked cross walk, but nobody seems to stop for them, or when the lights are flashing. Perhaps they should put up a traffic signal, but until then, please be cautious of those of us trying to cross Russell here. —ari-p
