(Which I don't) The Old Testament advocates the killing of "sodomites" and others who don't conform to its teachings. --["TobinJones"]<br> - * Not necessarily. The law in the Old Testament can be divided into three different types of law. There are the ceremonial laws, which include the dietary stuff and regulations considering ritual purity. The dietary laws are widely considered to be non-binding because of Acts 10:9-16. The ritual purity laws don't need to be followed because Christians do not perform temple worship, as they believe the blood sacrifice of Jesus abolished it. The next set of laws are the moral laws, which include not coveting, not committing adultery, not engaging in homosexual sex acts, etc. These are binding on all believers. The third set of laws in the Old Testament are the civil laws. People tend to forget that the laws in the Old Testament were once the laws of a nation, ancient Israel. These include things like stoning adulterers and putting people who have committed homosexual sex acts to death. We aren't living in ancient Israel, so they are non-binding on Christians. Christians are only obligated to observe the moral law in the Bible. In the case of Freddie Oakley, it is perfectly reasonable for a Christian to believe that the moral code in the Bible is for Christians to obey out of devotion to God and to be upset that the government is enforcing the moral code on those who have not taken it up willingly. There is a long Baptist tradition of supporting the freedom of religion and the right of the sinner to sin. (Which I don't) The Old Testament advocates the killing of "sodomites" and others who don't conform to its teachings. --["TobinJones"]<br> + * Not necessarily.
