Student employees have always been cheerful and amiable, and you definitely get service with a smile.<br> + <br> + The desserts at the CoHo are still delicious-- I'm always a little sad when they don't have the cheesecake bars, but their sugar cookies are delicious (lighter in flavor, not overpowering so you get sick of it after the first bite). As for actual entrees, I've only really had the pizza with any regularity, but I've always found a slice of it to be reasonably priced and tasty, though not mind-blowing.<br> + <br> + My recent experience with the pho has led me back to the same conclusion from two years ago: it's still extremely overpriced and...weird. The chicken broth is simultaneously sweet and savory, though not in a good way. The noodles often feel undercooked and overall the portions are simply underwhelming at $6 a pop. I'm one of those people that enjoys their noodles swimming in broth in a giant bowl, and the CoHo pho felt like I was eating a serving of Cup Noodles.<br> + <br> + I've grown to accept the fact that the CoHo is a major convenience, but not a good place to get cheap food, or delicious food. There are some gems (the bakery), but there are things that fall pretty flat (the pho). If you have the time and/or means of transportation, you can find much better food downtown. --["Users/AbbYu"]</span> </td> </tr> </table> </div> Coffee Househttp://daviswiki.org/Coffee_House2011-08-29 23:08:16TomGarbersonRm obsolete thread re reorganizing page - already done <div id="content" class="wikipage content"> Differences for Coffee House<p><strong></strong></p><table> <tr> <td> <span> Deletions are marked with - . </span> </td> <td> <span> Additions are marked with +. </span> </td> </tr> <tr> <td> Line 148: </td> <td> Line 148: </td> </tr> <tr> <td> <span>- 2010-10-15 18:07:07 nbsp Just a thought, should we just archive the comments from the old CoHo since they aren't necessarily accurate anymore?...Things have changed a LOT in the new building. --["Users/AshleyMatson"]<br> - * Go for it. Maybe I'm just a big eater or I'm too accustomed to the stereotypical ginormous portions that America is so well-known for, but a "Cooks'" "large" just doesn't seem to warrant four something dollars. And as a previous reviewer noted, they tend to go heavy on the rice. I'm surprised that people pay for the CoHo's swirl of chicken broth that it audaciously parades around as "pho" and thinks justifies a nearly $6 price tag. IMO, you'd be better off bringing a packet of $0.25 ramen and heating that up with the free hot water offered by the bakery. Microwave some cooked chicken and throw in some easily transportable vegetables like spinach and you wouldn't be too far off from recreating the CoHo's "pho." I do acknowledge that the CoHo is the only viable eatery for those starved for time, but this does not justify the mediocre stuff that the CoHo pushes out and the accompanying steep prices.<br> + <br> + The only "bright" spot would be the bakery which usually serves up delicious pastries (I'm in love with the "vegan rice krispies" which they seem to never have!). Seating space will be improved slightly too, but this could have been accomplished by adding an additional seating area onto the MU without disrupting existing facilities. Many ASUCD services, such as the post office, will disappear during construction too. Plus, we will lose the best social center on campus for an entire year during the renovation. It doesn't seem to me that there is any real net benefit in doing this, and there is a strong cost in food, services, and socialization in the mean time. --["Users/IDoNotExist"]<br> - * Where did you get the slight from? From the plans I saw while working there, the amount of seating will be expanded by about 1/4, which is a bit more than slight (especially given that they have to have room for the growing student body in the future). Also, the areas that customers don't see, like the kitchens and dishwashing area, are being expanded quite a bit too. That whole area was very cramped, to the point of preventing people from being able to walk through during hours when the kitchens were in use. Also, the rambling layout made it hard to organize things like dishware, which, to my recollection, were stored in at least three different places. I know it's an inconvenience, but it isn't the end of the world, and the facilities are long overdue for an update. --["Users/JoePomidor"]<br> - ------<br> - 2009-08-05 13:11:31 nbsp Seating was difficult to find there only during peak hours at peak times during the quarter. It definitely gets crowded, but surely they could have built an annex to the building without disrupting the activity inside. This could have also included expanded kitchen facilities. --["Users/IDoNotExist"]<br> - * The kitchen facilities are all in one area. It would be effectively impossible to expand them while keeping them open. The few services that could continue to be offered in that instance are pretty much equivalent (or perhaps even worse than) the ones being offered at the temporary facilities. --["Users/JoePomidor"]<br> - ------<br> - 2009-09-25 23:07:34 nbsp It's good to hear about the positive improvements the rennovations will bring, however I do think it's bad timing with the budget cuts that are occurring these days. Also I'm a senior, and a bit dissapointed I won't have access to my favorite campus food for my last year :[<br> - <br> - Just found this post at http://daviswiki.org/University_Construction<br> - "Funding for capital projects is separate from funding for salaries. I understand the CoHo's need for remodeling due to failing or failed infrastructure, etc. But currently they're only interesting if you want 1) pizza 2) wraps 3) bagels or sandwiches 4) limited pastries. The Pizza place offers most of the hot food though the sandwich place does have a few heated sandwiches (such as the sante fe veggie burger). The pizza place offers salads, chili, quiche, nachos, and popcorn. Their pizza prices are very competitive. Despite all of this, I'm rarely in the mood for any of what they offer. Currently the CoHo is but a shell of its former self and I'm very impatient for things to return to normal. Perhaps if they had a place to get burritos, I wouldn't be so sad. C'mon, rent a taco truck already! --["Users/RyanMikulovsky"]<br> - * Agreed, Ryan. Plus the lines are just insane. I'm not going to wait in line for food I'm not that interested in. Line efficiency will apparently be improved, but this might save a regular coffee house patron a minute or two per day in exchange for not having most Coffee House services available at all for a year. I would be shocked if the lines at the temporary Coffee House are not much longer, because this won't be a space designed to handle the kind of traffic that the Coffee House normally gets. Food selection (which was already good) will supposedly be increased slightly, at the price of almost no selection for a year. --["Users/IDoNotExist"]</span> </td> </tr> </table> </div> Coffee Househttp://daviswiki.org/Coffee_House2009-08-05 11:35:44IDoNotExist <div id="content" class="wikipage content"> Differences for Coffee House<p><strong></strong></p><table> <tr> <td> <span> Deletions are marked with - . </span> </td> <td> <span> Additions are marked with +. </span> </td> </tr> <tr> <td> Line 86: </td> <td> Line 86: </td> </tr> <tr> <td> <span>- === Plans for Renovation ===<br> - <br> - Under the ["Campus Expansion Initiative"], students have been paying $8 per quarter to expand the Coffee House since Fall 2004. Many plans are still up in the air as to what this new CoHo would be like, but it seems likely that the restaurant will expand into the middle portion of the patio to expand seating. They will probably also get an espresso bar. Construction is supposed to begin around Spring 2009, which is the primary explanation as to why ASUCD can't put any plasma screens up now. The construction plans are somewhat constrained by the fact that ["Sodexho"] catering lives in the loading dock of the CoHo.<br> - <br> - The new catering kitchen is supposed to begin construction on 8/1/06 and finish 10/31/07 according to ["Architects &amp; Engineers" A&amp;E]. The catering folks will move to that new location at that point. Sure, there will be Coho substitutes in the MU, but it won't be the same. On the other hand, the renovation will be GREAT for downtown businesses. While we are a unit of ASUCD, all of our operating budget, overhead, labor, etc. comes from the business that we do. When students use their reg cards to pay for something and then pay it back later, that money doesn't go back to the Coffeehouse.<br> + <br> + In unrelated matters--the Coffeehouse will be closing down this summer in its current location for the renovation. It will still exist during the interim year on the east side of the MU. I believe that it will be open through Summer Session 1; as far as I know, plans are to reopen in June or so of 2010. --["Users/JoHolbrook"]</span> </td> </tr> </table> </div> Coffee Househttp://daviswiki.org/Coffee_House2009-05-03 01:35:51queerbychoice <div id="content" class="wikipage content"> Differences for Coffee House<p><strong></strong></p><table> <tr> <td> <span> Deletions are marked with - . </span> </td> <td> <span> Additions are marked with +. </span> </td> </tr> <tr> <td> Line 48: </td> <td> Line 48: </td> </tr> <tr> <td> <span>-</span> Further afield, from ["Vacaville"] comes [wiki:vacaville:"Pure Grain Bakery"], Richvale's Lundberg Farms, Portello Ranch of Arbuckle, and Marysville's own Rue and Forsman Ranch all provide regional items and ingredients. </td> <td> <span>+</span> Further afield, from ["Vacaville"] comes [wiki:vacaville:"Pure Grain Bakery"], Richvale's Lundberg Farms, Portello Ranch of Arbuckle, and <span>[wiki:yubasutter:"</span>Marysville<span>"]</span>'s own Rue and Forsman Ranch all provide regional items and ingredients. </td> </tr> </table> </div> Coffee Househttp://daviswiki.org/Coffee_House2009-03-21 10:33:35jsogulcomment added. <div id="content" class="wikipage content"> Differences for Coffee House<p><strong></strong></p><table> <tr> <td> <span> Deletions are marked with - . </span> </td> <td> <span> Additions are marked with +. </span> </td> </tr> <tr> <td> Line 206: </td> <td> Line 206: </td> </tr> <tr> <td> </td> <td> <span>+ * Sodexho and the CoHo are direct competitors.
