2009-01-12 11:26:27 I lived here from September 07- August 08 and I liked it but there were some downfalls. Cranbrook is a bit out of the way, it is pretty close to Nugget but that's about all, plus the little punks from the Junior High kept making a racket on their way to school early in the morning. I decided not to renew my lease because of the size disparity between the bedrooms in the 2br units (I wanted to switch from a 1br to a 2br when I got a roomate). One room is 100 square feet, the other is 143 square feet, and my roomate and I decided it was not the ideal situation. Management is awsome, especially Melissa. —NicoleHuff
2009-02-05 13:23:03 Ok, I'd have to say overall we have really enjoyed our stay at Cranbrook. We are moving, mostly to get a bigger place - but as of now we are still here so I don't know how good they are about leaving and returning deposits. I do think my satisfaction has a lot to do with where my apt is in the complex. We are right next to Covell, sort of btwn the railroad tracks and J st. As such, we have a nice view: you can see the Covell traffic a bit, but the rise in the ground makes the view mostly trees and soil (so its pretty). This is also helpful for the noise, I imagine. I wouldn't want to be on the corner apartments where covell and j st meet, nor closer to the tracks where the high problem block a lot of the light and the trains are probably louder. Note, another reason we are moving is because I think the apartments have asbestos and lead. You can see warning signs for carcinogenic chemicals all over the place, and they gave a some-what unclear brochure on it when my boyfriend moved in (or signed the lease - one or the other). Could I be wrong about the chemicals? Yes, so look into it for yourselves. I'm not sure, but I think rent increased $20 for our second renewal of the 12-mo lease. This time it would increase by only $4 (making it $958/mo for a single bedroom apt).
That said.....
PROS: HOT WATER, DSL (with the modem), WATER, trash, sewage, and parking are included in rent!!!! We only pay for gas, electricity, and the phone bill. The heater is gas. The gas+electric bill is usually spacious, huge windows, good sound insulation in the walls, very quiet neighbors (they aren't home much either, actually), all our sliding doors are mirrors! In fact, the bedroom mirrored sliding doors are massive, adding a lot of light and sense of space. There are two closets, one being a walk-in, providing tons of closet space. Decent fridge and dishwasher, decent sized kitchen, very nice office folk with regular office hours, new carpet and freshly painted walls when we moved it (it was totally clean, too). They will let you put up your own curtains. Yard keeping is done later in the morning/afternoon, so it doesn't wake you up. Likewise, I have never heard the garbage truck. Maintenance is now very fast and fairly competent. They completely replaced the inside of my toilet tank and clean the corrosion in 15-30 minutes. (Before the new guys, the old repair guy lengthened the chain to "fix" the leaking toilet; this not only failed to obviously fix the problem, but also made the toilet not flush. We had to readjust the chain ourselves). Very rarely do I hear the trains - and I think only when they blow their horns. From where I am, it's distant sounding, like a fog horn on a bay. You can hear the people above you walk around sometimes, but its very quiet. The interior and exterior look decent - NOT old or rundown...light color. The washers and dryers work great, there are lots - plus a water-saving washer that can take bigger loads. Washer cost: $1.25, dryer minimum: $1.00. The laundry rooms (2) are kept very clean and have a very large high folding table. Personally, I really like the area. You can bike to shop at Nugget, Safeway, and Savemart. It is very close to the covell greenbelt biking paths. If you don't like biking on streets, you can bike to the grocery stores using those paths, and rarely are on a street. There is a bike path along side the complex on covell. The two parking lots have plenty of space, and the one nearest to the office is easy to maneuver in. I think the second lot is tighter and less open...but still ok. The doors have peep holes. I don't know about other areas in the complex, my neighbors and I usually attach our bikes to the frame of the stairs, which works well without looking too cluttered. Oh, all the cupboards/cabinets, walls and ceilings are off-white, as are the linoleum floors. The carpet is tan. There is storage ABOVE the cabinets in the kitchen. We put our appliances there, but it could be nice for decoration too. I'm not sure what others consider fast internet. The internet used to be slower, but that may have been a modem problem. I can usually watch streaming shows on low quality just fine....sometimes it's too slow for that. Obviously, speeds are faster at certain times of the day. We have NEVER run out of hot water.
CONS: It can take a long time to get hot water, and during the seasons they water the place, do NOT take a shower around 12-1...there will be ONLY really really hot water. I think Davis has semi-hard water. We do have to scrub the dishes before we put them in the washer if you want to ensure they will all come out clean. Vertical blinds - I hate them in general! Ours won't close, either. It can be difficult to cool and heat the bedroom since the heater and ac are in the living room. Windows: the sound doesn't come OUT of the apartment, good for privacy - but for some reason sound comes in well. The street traffic is fairly quiet even though it's so close (sounds like soft white noise), but you will hear people talking outside. People walk in front of our apartment often, but are usually silent. But the kids walking home from school are noisy sometimes. And you do hear sirens passing in the day every now and again - once a week? However, the area is usually very quiet, and those noises only really occur in the day. Our front door is seriously bowed, so a lot air leaks into the apartment. Also there is air leaking through and around the AC unit. The hinges on the bedroom door are bent, so with my hanging shoe rack on the door it squeaks quite loudly..but I don't think it did before the shoe rack was on it. There is a black mold in the apartment...on the trim around the ac, toilet seat (which is very badly corroded), and shower curtain. I have to bleach/clean the curtain every now and again. There is also some mold starting to grow on the bathroom ceiling and walls. I'm not sure the bathroom fan works very effectively, but I'm not sure they ever do. Also, I know its common to have the bathroom lights and fan on the same switch, but I would prefer otherwise. I think the kitchen exhaust works alright. I think the trees in the parking lot, attractive as they are, have finally stopped dropped crap loads of pollen on my car. Other cars in the lot seem so much cleaner...I don't drive much and rarely wash my car, so the pollen builds up on my car especially. but there is a lot of pollen deposited regardless. I would still opt to have the nice trees, however. I think the stove/oven is slightly smaller than standard house ovens...I'm not sure about the dishwasher. Both, however, are still good sizes. The cabinets are definitely too high. I did see a mouse outside once...but I have also seen rodent bait. And the few local cats may have helped. Definitely have some bums dumpster diving....sometimes they leave the trash a mess, but usually this is not a problem. The interest return was changed in the davis model lease, but without their initials and the renters initials by the change it is not valid....I'm not sure why they didn't know/do that. Oh, the bedroom window latch is broken, so we continue to use the large dowel to keep it locked (here when we came). When the dishwasher drains, some of the water comes out of a thingy in the sink. This is annoying because it will get about a cup of water on the counter each time. You could find a cheaper place than this for the size, and with a patio...would it be crappier? I don't know. Some of the horror stories of other complexes scare me. And remember that rent includes your internet, water, and hot water.....
Overall, if I'm wrong about the chemicals then I would recommend this place if you like a quiet, clean place, with good management - and overall reliability I think as well. I have yet to view other apartments, so I can't make comparisons yet.
—JW
2009-02-05 15:23:15 ...and in response to the question a few comments above: there is a full-sized fridge (with a freezer of course), nearly full size oven, and I think the dishwasher is standard size. The air conditioning is an electric wall unit in the living room (there is a ceiling fan above the dining room, and in the bedroom), and there is a gas wall heater in the living room. No microwave, no furniture. —JW
2009-03-06 11:40:54 Correction for above - our rent increased by $29, not $4. —JW
2009-03-15 18:03:25 We didn’t actually see the unit we were moving into, we got to pick it off a map. We did see the model which seemed slightly better quality than the unit we ended up living in. That’s what you get for choosing housing the end of May. On our first day things were off to a rough start. The carpets had bleach, red wine and black stains on them. The carpets seemed like they should have been replaced since a regular carpet cleaning didn’t do the job. The ‘free internet’ was difficult to get working because the first 3 modems given to us did not work. On the fourth modem, we lucked out for about 4 months then the connection got slower and slower. We decided to go with another internet provider and haven’t had any problems since.
The apartments were pretty quiet but recently things have been getting louder late at night; music and parties. Since we’re very close to the train tracks random people wander though, they’re harmless but it may bother some. The office is open M-F 9-5 so it is difficult to speak to the management if you work regular hours. One of our roommate’s cars was randomly vandalized in the parking lot, annoying. The pipes make a lot of noise when neighbors shower, which isn’t terrible but it gets to you after a while. Occasionally, you can hear rats running behind the walls at night. The parking lots do fill up quickly, so you may end up walking further than you’d like. Overall, I’ve lived in numerous apartments and this complex has been the most generic and awkward in layout.Every window faces the neighbors directly across the way, so either your neighbor can check out whats going on at your place or you have have to keep the blinds closed all the time (it gets old sitting in the dark all the time).
The bike ride to campus is a reasonable 15mins. The rates are a tiny big steep for what you get but fair. The best redeeming feature is the Rec. room, a nice alternative to running outside or in the rain. They have a club house with WiFi, which is very convenient when your ‘free’ internet in your apartment isn’t working and you can’t pick up a new modem until Monday.
We’re moving this next year. Most importantly, if you have more time to look at other apartments, take it. Ask to SEE the unit you’re signing a lease for because you don’t know what you’re getting into.
2009-06-02 16:39:58 I lived here for one year and overall, I don't have much to complain about. My pleasant stay was largely due to the friendly management - Melissa, Krissy, and Steve. Wonderful people. They are extremely helpful and welcoming. No matter what problem I came with, they treated me very well and had the problem fixed in the same day. They make the resident feel important and they really care about your livelihood in the apt. (They even came in and killed a bug for me because i have a huge phobia for insects. Embarrassing, but true.) I enjoy going to the office because krissy and melissa are always smiling and full of energy, and they don't ask a million questions. You just go in, say your greetings, have a small conversation, tell them your problem in five words or less, and they take care of it right away. It made everything really easy and simple, especially for a law student who's always absentminded and busy.
As for the apt, I actually liked the 1 br/bath layout. The size is perfect - not too big and not too small. And when i moved in, the apt was very clean, freshly vacuumed. I was on the second floor at the edge by Covell Blvd. and the noise wasn't that bad. (and i need silence when i study.) Except for a few cars revving by and the occasional siren, loud noises were rare. Someone mentioned above that sounds came in from the outside, and I have to agree. Sometimes, at night, I could hear the conversations of people walking by as if they were in my room talking to me. But, again, it wasn't frequent and i'm sure if you tell the office, they will probably take some kind of action to remedy that. I was just too lazy to bother. And it's rarely ever loud. My neighbors were quiet and private, which i appreciated very much. And it's true that you can hear the pipes when your neighbor takes a shower but that didn't bother me. The sound wasn't loud, and few people ever take showers during odd hours at night.
Since i was on the second floor, I rarely closed the window blinds which let a LOT of sunshine into the apt. I hate closing the blinds, and it was nice to be able to keep them opened for the most part. Someone above also commented about the ac/heater unit only being in the living room and not in the bedroom as well. At first, I was hesitant about that, too, but I soon realized that the ceiling fan does a good enough job in cooling down the bedroom. Sometimes, it gets too cold! Plus if you open the windows in the early morning from 6 am to 11 am - nothing but fresh cool wind drifts into the apt. The heater is between the living room and the bedroom so it's not too bad during the winter, I stayed warm enough.
I don't know about cars being vandalized, but I never had that problem. Sometimes, in the morning, I find out that I left my car unlocked overnight! But nothing was taken or broken. And there was always plenty of parking spaces in front of my apt. So, i honestly don't know what previous commentators were complaining about. Maybe it's because we lived in different parts of the property.
I never use the dishwasher so i don't know of any problems. My stove and oven worked just fine, also my fridge started to leak towards the end of my stay. But Steve came and fixed it on the same day i reported the problem.
Overall, Cranbrook was a convenient and comfortable place to stay, especially since it's within walking distance to Nugget. I think for me, the management (Krissy, Melissa, and Steve) is the main reason why Cranbrook is worth it. You won't find friendlier faces anywhere else. —Lkimuchi
2009-09-01 23:59:27 This is a top choice for anybody who wants to have friendly and helpful staff and great management — best for 1-2 bedrooms and if you want peace and quiet. Overall it has been great to stay here.... just go in and judge yourself. They are professional and really run a "tight ship". They really do care, very strange concept for me since I lived NY, San Francisco / Bay Area before this. And yes, this is a real person, not an ad. Only downside is the size of the units/price. It doesn't hurt that Melissa at front desk is a knockout either! —maine
2010-01-05 11:51:49 Cranbrook rules. Definitely one of the best complexes around. The manager chrissy and melissa are the shit. Not literally. The premises is always very clean and i always see maintenance and landscaping being done. Very friendly staff all around. Awesome pool, awesome workout room, soda machine, twenty four hour study lounge and laundry room. Its expensive and the rooms aren't too big, but you realize why you pay so much after you move and everyone at your new apartments sucks, and its filthy. I had the worse roommate anyone could possibly have but cranbrook was still awesome. Cranbrook, yay. —Maqz
2010-01-28 00:50:55 My roommate and I have been living here for the past few months and I can honestly say that its totally worth it. It is expensive, but once you move in you understand why. The only problem we have is that living on the second story we can hear when our neighbors; both downstairs and next door, close their doors - it shakes the whole living room, same happens when the trains are passing by. Other then that, whenever we have any maintenance problems we just call down to the office and they are here within the half our, its relatively quiet, close to P, Q, and E lines the nugget and CVS. The lounge, gym, laundry room are all clean and well kept as is the lawns, during the summer and fall they were always here 2x a week. Everyone at the office is great, and are VERY helpful. The amenities are great as well! Also our rent actually decreased by $20, and once we renew our lease we get our full deposit back ! ! ! —VMtz
So we did get our full $400 deposit back (with the $3 interest) and altogether our rent was lowered by $40
2010-02-23 02:45:46 I haven't lived here for that long but it seems pretty nice so far. When we first moved in we had a pretty big rat problem and some other minor problems, but management was really quick and friendly in fixing it. Sometimes the laundry room fills up, but if you time it right it should be fine. It's very quiet, I live in a complex next to Covell and was worried about car sounds but it's really not bad. The noise thing is true, when people are outside it sounds like they are talking to you, but there's not usually people outside my window. Pipes squeak and it was annoying at first but I'm used to it now. It's very close to the E bus line and the Nugget, which is convenient. The bike ride isn't too bad. I like how they have free cookies during their open hours and a cookie oven in the study lounge...is that there for tenants to use also? I always wondered that.
Overall it's a nice place to live, really pretty trees and spacious layout. Maintenance is pretty stellar, and there isn't too much to complain about. —AlisaKim
2010-07-09 13:46:57 I have been living here for almost two years now and can say that I have had a pleasant experience, mostly due to management staff who are really enthusiastic, helpful, and make things easy for you. Krissy, the Residential Manager, has been awesome in helping accomodate all my needs here. I would recommend not residing at the west end near the train tracks, where I lived for over a year. The second year, I chose to move nearer to the entrance area by the corner of J and Covell and it has been really nice. Quiet and covered by trees so, I rarely have to turn on the air-conditioning even in the 90 degree hear so far. Cool staff, endless hot water, free DSL, and spacious master bedroom with walk-in closet, big pool with spa, a nice 24 hour study room with comfy leather couches, and the workout room were some of my favorites here...some reasons why I decided to lease for another year. All these were helpful in dealing with the stress of applying to and studying for pharmacy school. Yay, I got in! —LKim78
2010-07-22 15:01:16 I lived at Cranbrook for two years and am happy to have stayed there for my entire term at Davis. All my friends were always moving about trying to find a better deal than their previous apartment, but I did some research before moving to Davis and found that Cranbrook matched my needs best. I was looking for something far enough away from campus that you don't have to deal with the bar crowds if you choose not to, but within walking distance of a shopping center for groceries and such. Cranbrook was perfect. I believe that the residents are from all walks of life, undergrads, graduate students, families, and the single working crowd. This keeps everything low-key and mutually respectful. None the less, we had plenty of BBQs out by the pool without every having a problem with management. The price isn't bad, and we got all our deposit back plus a bit of interest, which is unheard of. The management couldn't be any more warm or friendly, in fact they felt more like extended family than "complex overseers". All in all, I'm very happy to have stayed at Cranbrook while at Davis, and would recommend it to any friend, I did actually, and three friends of mine live there now! —CarsonConner
2010-08-06 14:00:06 The Cranbrook Apartments are the BEST apartment complex in Davis. I toured many apartments when I moved to Davis last year and nothing compared to Cranbrook. The management and maintenance teams are fabulous. Management knows you by first name and is available to answer any question and help you with anything you need. Maintenance responds to any question or problem you might have promptly and efficiently. The Cranbrook Apartments are affordable, well maintained, quiet, friendly neighbors, great pool, close to bus lines, easy biking distance to campus, and walking distance to a great shopping center. I recommend this complex to anyone currently looking for a place to live in Davis. —EDunn
2010-08-14 09:11:42 I have lived at Cranbrook for 3yrs now and it is the place to be. The Management and Maintenance Staff are amazing and super Friendly, they make sure you are well taken care of. The Lounge is nicely decorated and the pool just got new pool side furniture that is so Country Club Worthy. The gym is pretty nice too, its perfect for when you are home and don't want to go all the way to the arc, just to workout. Ohh did I mention you can also reserve the lounge for when you want to have "get togethers" and "study groups". Plus there are always fresh cookies available, and snack in the lounge plus the awesome Cappuccino Machine on a well stocked coffee-tea bar. The whole property is well maintained, cleaners at least 3 times a week, gardening weekly....what better place to live in than one that is well kept. They even clean your carpet when you renew your lease. And the West End Parking Lot was recently repaved, so no guessing is this a park, it is beautiful and well defined with Disable Parking as well. The apartments are really spacious!! The 1bd apartments have 2 very nice size closets and enough space in the rooms for a full desk, queen size bed, a dresser, lamp tables and still much more space. I have that much furniture and still managed to fit in a large queen size air mattress when I had guest over. —StarHarris
2010-08-19 06:24:36 I am looking for someone that is willing to take over my year long lease and wants to move in soon. My brother and I enjoy living at Cranbrook but we cannot afford our 2b apartment anymore. We have a bottom floor two bedroom that is located next to the pool, very close to parking lot, trash and laundry. If anyone is interested please email me at jfcranbrook@gmail.com. Thanks =) —Jfranckiewicz
2010-09-03 16:24:34 I just moved from cranbrook and I was very satisfied with the management as well as the maintenance staff. Any problems I had were immediately resolved and the front office was very friendly towards walking in with any of your concerns. I am really going to miss the friendly service provided by the Cranbrook staff. The apartments are very nice and moderately priced for the city of Davis. I really enjoyed living at Cranbrook and would recommend it to any person looking for a quiet place to live with a competent staff and beautiful pool. —ElliotSobel
2010-09-14 00:14:28 The painting inside the units at cranbrook is always great! I wonder why that is —StevenDaubert

2011-03-15 09:18:52 Anyone willing to post their average cost of Electricity and Gas per month? —KirstenSargent

I pay about $35 a month for PG&E. We try to keep all the lights not in use off and keep the heater at 70. We also tend to cook and use the dishwasher a lot too.
2011-04-13 12:53:42 Thanks for posting your info about PG&E!! I noticed a comment on the Facebook page about inspection week .. What is inspection week exactly? :) —KirstenSargent * Hi Kirsten! Inspection week is when Steve & Ed go to each apartment and make sure that all of the appliances are functioning properly and that everything is in good repair (e.g., doors, windows, light fixtures, etc.). We made sure that everyone had notice that they'd be popping in—this only happens once a year. I hope this has been helpful! ~Cranagement
2011-04-16 10:29:58 APT 168 resident here at Cranbrook. I was supposed to post this but never had the time. Great service! The office closed already on friday and I had to pick up a package. Management stayed just to give me my package! that made my weekend!
2011-05-12 21:44:53 I love this apartment. I took a tour with my parents in Spring Quarter 2010 and moved in June 2010. There've been very few issues, and those issues have been dealt with quickly by management. If anyone else is interested, one of the rooms in my 2 bedroom is going to be up for sublease starting June 10 2011 through August 31 2011. I put the room up on CraigsList here
http://sacramento.craigslist.org/sub/2378156315.html if anyone is interested.
Bills usually total about $30 per person (PG&E and phone), and even though you'd be getting the bigger room (11x13), rent is split equally. I'm OK with two people sharing that room, too, so rent would be super reduced :) —ChristineDillard
2011-05-17 19:24:27 I am interested in this place but hesitant - for any past or present tenants, were you comfortable during the summer without central air? —isands
2011-07-11 23:02:27 I posted before about needing a Summer room mate, but it turns out I also need a room mate for September 1 2011 - August 31 2012. If anyone's interested, please contact the front office and tell them you're interested in a room in apartment 366. There's also an ad on Craigslist here:

2011-07-11 23:05:34 Hey! This is a super awesome complex! The management rocks! I have a room available for sublease for the entire upcoming school year! Here is the craigslist ad with all the details!
http://sacramento.craigslist.org/roo/2499349679.html You will have your own room at $577/month and the apartment will be shared with one super friendly girl and a cat. You will not need to pay for utilities or Internet. Let me know if your interested! —RoxanneCoonrod
2011-07-28 16:46:55 Hi, All - want to recommend Cranbrook as highly as possible for the simple fact that the management is superlative and that, ultimately, is what affects a comfortable apartment life. "No problem!" is the constant response, no matter how inconvenient the request to their time. I've seen Steve working hard on an issue on a Sunday morning, I get immediate response to any problem, large or small with the apartment, and really feel they are friends, not just "the management". If potential noise is an issue for you, ask for something away from the J/Covell corner, or near the trains, but otherwise, just normal apt. sounds. Great neighbors and a huge kitty-friendly population. Our neighbors helped us with a charming stray, and we kitty-sat for them while they were away. There's no nonsense here and if there is, you are aware of it instantly and it is handled instantly. Truly nice folks here and the study lounge is tres comfy and always smells like cookies! You might pay extra here, but it is infinitely worth it. Kudos to the staff, one and all, and would recommend to anyone, not just students. Cheers, folks and enjoy Cranbrook. I sure did! —catchambers
2011-09-20 18:25:24 I really enjoyed living at Cranbrook. I only moved because I needed a bigger place. Anyways, as far as the apartments go, they were in nice and clean. My biggest complaint about this place was that when the sprinklers were on, we only had hot water.
But the thing that made this complex so amazing was the management. They were always friendly and always helpful. Maintenance issues were fixed quickly, and they office staff was always great and helpful. I had some roommate issues that they were even willing to help work out! They are great people, and I recommend this place to anyone looking for a nice apartment. Oh, and we got back our full deposit with no hassle whatsoever. —LinLulu
2012-04-09 17:05:43 I made a big move from AZ to Davis and am so thankful to have found Cranbrook! It's been a GREAT first place to live! Especially with being new to California, I appreciated having excellent management. They have amazing attitudes and are eager to take care of their residents. With any little maintenance things, Steve or Ed have come by to help very quickly. Love having a workout room, pool, and being close to downtown. Lived here for 16 months and have deeply enjoyed it! Moving now that I've found a house to rent but will miss the excellence of Cranbrook! —JenTiffan
2012-04-18 12:42:57 This comment may sound out of the ordinary, but bear with me. Aside from the obvious things that an apartment complex should have (walls, roof, working toilets, fresh water, etc.) Cranbook offers by far the best living experience in Davis. I've lived in Davis now for about seven years, during that time I have stayed in south davis with Allegre apartments, west davis at a privately managed apartment, and the remainder of my time in North Davis, one year at Chautauqua and the this will be my fourth year living at Cranbrook. I know what you're thinking, he's spent three years living at the same place, and he's signed up for a fourth, they must have some awesome management, great on-site staff for repairs and maintenance, and be an overall great place to live. It is, all that and more. I've never really taken advantage of the pool or the gym facility that they have on site, but they do offer those. It's located close to Nugget market, which is a great place to go and get your groceries, as well as the occasional dinner.
But here is what I really love about Cranbrook, I live in an apartment with some empty space out front in the form of a concrete patio where bikes used to be stored. I say "used to" because Cranbrook has allowed me to reappropriate the space into my own little orchard and garden. At the moment I have over a dozen fruit trees growing in buckets, a 2'x8' foot raised planter box, and they're discussing letting me put in a greenhouse. Maybe they know that the more stuff they let me put in, the harder it will be for me to leave, or maybe they just really love and appreciate their tenants. Either way, how awesome is it that an apartment complex would let you do that? And we've also tilled one of the smaller dead areas where nothing was growing and planted a few flowers and veggies for the summer.
Never before have I lived somewhere that I would have even considered broaching those ideas to management. The folks who work here are friendly, chatty, and enjoy engaging in conversation with their residents. I often find myself going in to hang-out or chat with the office folks at least once a week. Krissy and Olga are a blast to chat with and a guaranteed laugh. Sarah, who will sadly be leaving at the end of the summer to move onto bigger and better things, Stanford (congratulate her on that if you see her), is hilarious and always fun. I consider all of the folks who work there to be friends of mine and people that I will miss when I move out one day. Steve and Ed are the two maintenance staff that are always around, they are prompt, friendly, and great people to be around. Sometimes it's awkward to have someone inside your house working while you're home, but not with Ed and Steve, they're friendly and engaging and there's never any kind of awkwardness around them while they're there.
Bottom line, had I known about this place when I first came to Davis, this is where I would have moved to start (I also wouldn't have lost any money on security deposits from moving so often). Sign the lease for a year, and then the next, it's a decision you won't regret. —PhilipCelloJr
2012-05-13 16:59:54 I lived in both the single and 2 bedrooms in Cranbrook within the past 2 years and I say, it's a pretty decent place to live in. I lived in the back portion, so the downside to that was that the train would annoy me in the morning but it would wake me up for class along with the boppers who run around the area. I timed myself and it takes awhile for me to get to my car from my apartment but only because I lived in the farthest part literally on the edge of the area. What I hated most about this place was whenever I parked close to the buildings, you know the U shape area of the parking lots, not the entrance but the part where it's closest to the buildings in the back portion of the lot, people would just park where they would block a couple of cars from getting out. It has happened to me more than 10x within 2 months by the same people. I'm not trying to be racist, but it was these African American people who lived in the back and they yelled at me for asking them to move their cars because they made me late for work and school a couple of times. The staff is great here though, just I remember the lady cleaning the washing machine with her mop, don't know if it was the same one she used to clean the floor with. Decent workout area and pool. I moved out because I have friends who lived closer to school and got a cheaper price from them, other than that the distance from school and everything else is in the perfect area and I would stay here if I were alone. —JaceWinter
