Proposal
This entry is overwhelmed by comments predating Davis Patch going live. I propose removal, either through deletion or archival, of those comments. Comments that are relevant to Davis Patch itself should remain. To my mind, that category consists of CecilioPadilla's comment from 2011-06-23 00:58:16 and responses, as well as (added after the below replies) discussion of the editor's views on Davis issues. —TomGarberson

I would also argue for keeping the discussion of the editor's (Justin Cox's) views, as they are relevant to the site. —CovertProfessor

I don't care about my comment, but the quote, "I feel that almost every news story in Davis can be traced easily back to two things: Downtown and the University. I think the health and vitality of both should be at the forefront of nearly every conversation." is one heck of a statement that points to the editorial direction and vision of the site. It's a not-uncommon viewpoint, and for people whose view of Davis is UCD and biking the grid, it's not a bad thing. It does, however, point to a particular perspective on Davis. ⁓ʝ⍵

In the interest of finding a resolution, I'm OK with keeping the commentary on Justin's profile excerpt. Added into the proposal. —tg

Ok with me, but I would like to hear from some of the people whose comments would be deleted. —cp

either way my comments on the matter will stay regardless of content or perceived lack thereof —StevenDaubert
2011-06-24 18:21:13 Hi all, I've stayed hands off in this conversation mostly because it's not my place to shape perception. I don't want to appear as if I'm not checking on the page, though. I won't try to dispute the Huffington Post blogging controversy (because it's fully legit), except to say that of the 25ish stories currently on the site, only two are blogs. The rest of the stories were done by me along with a paid group of freelancers. Blogging is totally voluntary, but in my opinion potentially valuable (for the site and the blogger). As far as my bio: I admittedly can't identify the sole defining issue in this town, so that's not what I was trying to do with the bio. What I can say for sure is that the university and the surrounding agriculture are massively important, as is the preservation of a vital downtown (as evidenced by some struggling nearby cities). Don't let my short bio define me, the site or Davis (obviously). Last thing: I'm of the belief that nothing is capable of coming remotely close to replacing this wiki. The listings feature on Patch is a useful supplemental tool to pinpoint specific locations within stories.
I'll be ducking into the redwoods of Sequoia for the weekend, so I won't be around to respond at all until Monday most likely. I do appreciate your guys' effort in assembling the page. - Justin —justincox22
Mostly because it's not your place to shape perception? This is a community wiki it's a good thing for you to wade into the fray. Don't convince yourself otherwise Daubert
2011-06-27 11:22:57 I'm fine with a restart. I may come back and restate my comments, but for now it would help clean up the page. —jefftolentino
"2011-11-11 18:12:34" Reading the Davis Patch, Justin's assertion that "it's not my place to shape perception" seems unselfrespectful. —SherwoodAnderson
