The Davis People's Free School, like many other
free schools across the country, is a non-hierarchical project advocating the radical de-institutionalization of learning. We reject the commodification, corporatization, hierarchy, and inaccessibility of the modern educational system and seek to create an alternative space that is free, accessible, community-inspired and community-driven. The Davis People's Free School was created out of the Tri Co-ops Lecture and Workshop Committee in the winter quarter of 2007 with the aim of bringing free and accessible education to the people of Davis.
Your participation is essential to this decentralized project. There is generally a workshop or event twice a week or more. If you would like to be notified about upcoming workshops and events, or are interested in seeing a workshop on a particular subject or teaching one yourself, email us.

2007-06-11 12:24:45 What was the "Educate Yourself by Unlearning" lecture about? It sounds extremely interesting. What were some main topics of discussion? —EliseKane
2007-11-10 12:31:40 Chiles Rellenos with Marisol did not happen. I biked out there in the rain and knocked on all three houses. I'm lactose intolerant and took special enzyme pills just to be able to go. I love the DPFS project but you guys have to hold the workshops you post. :-( —ChristopherMckenzie

I, too, have gone to several classes which didn't happen. This is frustrating since I have had to cancel other activities. At a minimum, every event needs to list who is sponsoring the class. —SteveDavison
"2008-19-01 14:19:30" Classes are arranged and held by the instructor. The Free School attempts to put out a calendar that is accurate as possible, but changes do occur. We make every attempt to post accurate information regarding the classes being held, but again, ultimately it is up to the instructors (which are comprised of members of the community, like you) to make the classes happen. I suggest checking the Wiki page for the most current and accurate information. The free school is about free exchange between community members, so both instructors and students are encouraged to take a pro-active role in this process. Chuck
2008-02-05 14:28:28 the pdf file for the winter 2008 schedule is just a blank couple of pages. anyone have the real thing? thanks. —JulieSetele

The .pdf really is there, but there are two small DavisWiki bugs which caused your problem. First, don't right-click to save the file, but click on the link. It takes you to another page which has the actual file. If a single click doesn't bring it up then, try saving from there. This is because the file name does not end in .pdf but has cgi garbage which confuses your browser. —SteveDavison
2008-04-07 17:07:29 I like the idea very much. A suggestion here though (this is probably not the best place for inputs, but I'll say it anyway): add some postings about the classes on craig's list, if this hasn't been considered yet. I am fairly sure some community members use one site but not the other. —il
2008-04-08 22:37:34 I feel it's better to have the classes listed chronologically, like they were in the previous version. —SteveDavison
2008-04-08 23:23:05 The Whole Earth Festival would be a great place to advertise the DPFS. I hope they will have a table there. Would it be possible to get the calendar included in the printed WEF program?! —SteveDavison
