The "Mauve Decade", or "Gay Nineties" started out in 1892 with a major earthquake that shattered Winters. The earthquake measured at a magnitude of 6.6.
The Davisville Almond Growers Association is founded in 1897; their revolutionary cooperative effort served as a model for the development of agriculture nationwide and helped attract the University Farm.
