Anybody can be the Davis Wiki Oracle. In fact, you can even answer a previously answered question again (heck, answer one you've already answered again). Much like the Mystery Picture, there are no hard and fast rules, but here's a couple suggestions:
-
When answering, format the question as a bullet, with a [[br]] and then your answer in italics. That way, it can feed to [[RandomQuote(Davis Wiki Oracle)]].
-
Stay in character! When you're answering a question, you are a great and powerful Oracle! Lots of self depreciating humor, requests for bribes, strange links that make bizarre logic... the Oracle is the impotent ruler of the universe!
-
Keep in mind that the Oracle's answers can be great ways to highlight odd little corners of Davis by linking to obscure entries all over the wiki. Or Davis in-jokes. This is the opposite of serious, it's suoires.
-
You can also add commandments to the Oracle by editing Davis Wiki Oracle/Commands You.
You can add the Oracle to your editor entry with [[Include(Davis Wiki Oracle/Altar]], or stick it over to the right with [[Include(Davis Wiki Oracle/Altar, right, 40%)]].
An Oracle is an old old old network tradition, predating the World Wide Web and much of the internet. It was invented in 1976 at Harvard... you can read a bit more about it at the
Internet Oracle entry on Wikipedia.

2009-11-09 18:33:51 Is there any reason not to move off topic questions asked here to appropriate venues? At least one person has stumbled onto this page and mistaken it for a tech support page. —JasonAller
I was going to move these two questions elsewhere, but I couldn't figure out the best place to put the questions. The only reason why the questions haven't been moved already is inertia. —wl
Maybe to the comment section of Welcome to the Wiki/Business Owner? —JasonAller
