The Department of Land, Air, and Water Resources (LAWR) actually represents four undergraduate majors, three minors and three graduate groups:
-
Atmospheric Science (ATM, major, minor and grad group)
-
Environmental and Resource Sciences (ERS major)
-
Hydrology - (HYD major, minor and grad group)
-
Soil Science (SWS major, minor and SSC grad group)
Most of the programs are divided by major, but ERS is an exception. Environmental and Resource Sciences represents a synthesis of the other three, as well as aspects of other environmental sciences on campus. It's also a good deal easier than the other three majors.
LAWR is a part of the College of Ag, and many of its professors work with the Cooperative Extension. The department also sponsors for the Environmental Science Club.
The department office is located in 1110 Plant and Environmental Sciences Building, but the programs are spread across Hoagland Hall and Veihmeyer Hall as well. Atmospheric Science and Hydrology are supposed to move into Hunt Hall in two years — but that's what they said three years ago.
Update: The Hunt Hall reconstruction date has been moved from "starting in 2002" to "postponed indefinitely".
