We have switched our meeting evenings to Tuesdays - same time - 7:30pm. Same address: 717 7th Street, Davis

We are now discussing the Emptiness view (Mahamudra) and reading our way through Lama Ole's book, The Great Seal: Limitless Space and Joy.
The book is a commentary and explanation of a text of 25 verses written by the 3rd Karmapa, Rangjung Dorje, over 700 years ago.

Currently we are now on the 7th verse for this week. I am including the 7th, 8th and 9th verses for those of you who have not been able to come, so you know what we are up to, and can follow along if you wish. When we are finished with this book, we will tackle Lama Zopa's Turning Problems into Happiness.

Verse 7:
The basis of purification is mind itself, its union of clarity and emptiness.
the method of purification is the Great Seal, the diamond-like practice.
The object of purification is the fleeting illusory impurities.
May we accomplish the fruit of purification, the perfectly pure state of truth.

Verse 8:
Conviction of view results from cutting out doubts concerning the ground.
The crux of one's meditation is holding this view without distraction.
Excellent action consists in bringing insights from meditation into daily life.
May we obtain certainty of view, meditation, and action.

Verse 9:
All phenomena are manifestations of mind.
Mind is not "a" mind; it is empty in essence.
Although empty, all things arise in every way without hindrance.
May precise observation sever mistaken views about the ground.

Hope to see you for meditation!
Karmapa Chenno!

From the Diamond Way website:

Diamond Way Buddhist Groups Davis-Sacramento and Nevada City are part of an international network of over 500 meditation centers in the Karma Kagyu tradition of Tibetan Buddhism. The centers were founded and are directed by Lama Ole Nydahl according to the wishes of H.H. the 16th Karmapa. They are now under the spiritual guidance of H.H. the 17th Gyalwa Karmapa, Thaye Dorje.

The main practice in all our centers is the Guru Yoga meditation on the 16th Karmapa. This meditation is guided in English and involves visualization and mantra recitation, allowing space, clarity and joy to naturally arise.

There is a relaxed social atmosphere in the centers, refreshments are provided, and questions are encouraged. Other activities include group readings, teachings and dharma video viewing. These weekly meditation evenings are open to the public and are free of charge.
