The Hydrology program is an important one in California. The history of California is tied as closely to water as it is to gold. The hydrology program began in 1900 and was involved in the formation of water rights legislation in California. Hydrology is a part of the Department of Land, Air, and Water Resources.
The program offers both a major and a minor, and awards Masters and PhD degrees to students in the Graduate Group of Hydrologic Science.
HYD 10 is a relatively new course called Water and Power, which is about the politics of water resources in California and the West. It uses the book
Cadillac Desert extensively. (GE credit in SocSci or SciEng.) It sounds like a relatively cool course, though I haven't taken it.
