Candidate Statement
Hello, my name is Jarvis Malcom Burston, but my friends call me MacGyver. I transferred to Davis from Sierra College in the Fall of 2004. Since then, Ive been involved with the Student Recruitment and Retention Center (SRRC) as the General Coordinator. At the SRRC I help many students find all the little resources many of us do not know about.
My friends call me
MacGyver because if something needs to be fixed, from computers to cars, I can do it. The reason you are reading about me right now is because I am running for Senate on the L.E.A.D. slate. If elected to Senate I will help the ASUCD fix its more tangible problems and help students to learn about and address the issues that matter most. For instance, I happen to be irritated with the fact that I am a UC Davis student, who pays thousands for student fees and I cannot use a plug in the librarys 24-hour room when I need to. How hard would it be to add an extra outlet or install a power strip? Somebody needs to look out for the little things because they are what matter most. When I was publicizing for Navigating the U, an event to make resources more attainable for students. My $35.00 sign was taken down and replaced less than 24-hours later by an advertisement for the library. We all know where the library is. I was upset because I didnt have a place to advertise for an event that took weeks to prepare for and would present students with valuable information about how to make college a tad bit easier. We need more advertisement space.
It is important for students to let the ASUCD take care of their problems because ASUCD is composed of the Associated Students, meaning you and me. Help me continue the legacy of my name and help you personalize and Own Your School after all, you paid for it. Vote the Fro, Jarvis "Burston," for ASUCD Senate.
