This is a page for discussion of the content of the original page. This page was created because there was a dispute or argument about the content of the page (Lamar Heystek). Hashing out our differences here will allow for a more productive dialogue and won't clutter the original page.
This page sucks! It has no structure and it's very hard and unclear to read. We seriously need to clean it up along with the other council pages. It needs less lists and more proper sentences. For instance, reading it I have no idea he's a city council member or a candidate unless I notice it among the various bullet points.
2007-07-27 19:39:05 you (WilliamLewis) may disagree, but I disagree with your rather ostroswkian revert, my parents who are long time community members were heavily involved in the vote lamar movement, they also voted for him because they liked his policy. I voted for him, and I'm a long time community member... Sorry to the UCD folks who want to beat the student vote drum, but a damn lot of mature davisites who come from the "old" Davis view voted for him... —StevenDaubert

It's Ostrowskian reverts. —SteveOstrowski

I agree with Steve. While Lamar's victory was a victory for students, Lamar would not have won without strong community support. Students, sadly, just dont vote in large enough numbers. I'm also a townie and my mom really liked Lamar. JimSchwab

Duh. Obviously community members were involved. But community members and city residents are always involved. It kinda goes without saying that when people win, they do it with the community support. The student voice victory is uniquely Lamar.

I love Lamar, but the student voice was not uniquely Lamar's. First, Rob Roy was a student when he ran during that election and Mike Levy and Ruth Asmundson had student support as well. The student voice is hardly ever united when it votes. However, Lamar is good on student issues, so whether or not a student voted for Lamar, Lamar's victory is still a victory for students in general.

Rob Roy would also have been a major victory for the student voice, possibly more so, but it wasn't a victory. He didn't win >.>
