Operated by UC Davis, they do neutron radiography (including computed tomagraphy), neutron irradiation, produce I-125, and perform neutron research. Neutron radiography (imaging) is used for defect detection in high-reliability parts, such as used in aerospace and nuclear industries. Because neutrons are large neutral particles, they have very different absorption properties vis-a-vis electromagnetic radiation (X-ray/gamma rays).
