Formerly Known as "The Modern Japanese Visual Culture Study Club" (MJVCSC)

The Modern Japanese Visual Culture Club (MJVCC) was an official ASUCD Club at UC Davis. The club had bi-weekly to monthly meetings in a social discussion format.

Purpose:
This club studied various aspects that make up modern Japanese visual culture. These aspects include the most prominent figures of Japanese visual culture: animated films, graphic novels, and video games. The MJCCC studied these figures in the form of group discussions, often involving analysis of underlying, subtle meaning and sharing information about newly released titles. The impact of Japanese visual art on the American society was emphasized, allowing member to explore the cultural differences.

The main goal of the club was to meet other people with similar interests, and to socialize in and out of meetings.

Events

As a visual culture club, members will partake in many events related to the lifestyle and culture of the otaku lifestyle.

Conventions

As an undeniable entity, anime has grown to an extent that conventions exists just for this visual art. Members can receive group discounts registering with the club, and can be toured around during the convention.

Trip to Japan (Summer 2009)

Members of the club will be traveled together to Japan as part of club activity.

Inspiration

The club is partly inspired by the popular manga/anime title, Genshiken. The series revolves around an anime like club at a Japanese college ('The Society of the Study of Modern Visual Culture') despite the fact that there already is an anime club, manga club, and video game club on campus.
