2013-05-03 15:41:25 Man this is cute, I think we should create a "cute local animals" page, it could be like the mystery picture page, people upload a new photo every so often. It could be like a local version of cute overload. —DagonJones

It is cute, but I don't think it's really in Davis as I've seen this pict on a couple internet memes. If it is in Davis I wouldn't recommend posting picts on the interweb as state law forbids possession of those adorable little creatures(giant rodents) without a USDA permit. The reason being we don't want them escaping into the wild and competing with our local, adorable aquatic rodents. But I'm all for the cute things in Davis page. — mikey crews

Yeah, I saw a police guy pepper spraying somebody, and it was in internet memes, so it wasn't in Davis! But, yeah... joking aside, after a bit of search, it appears this Capy photo is from
this Reddit user. The cat is theirs, and the Capy is a rescue that their mom adopted. It was posted to Reddit
here. They heavily imply (but don't state outright) that the Capy is in Texas. Good call on questioning the local relevance. Capys do make great pets but require way more work than dogs or cats if you want to treat them well. I could see somebody in the Outskirts having one. -jw

Actually, the more I look at things, the more I think that might be Gari of gianthamster.com -jw

yea it's unfortunate that there are so many irresponsible pet owners who don't get their animals fixed or who decide they'd rather just let that animal go because they have to move or because it's not as cute as it was when it was small. really makes getting exotics difficult for the rest of us and leads to a range of ecological problems such as feral cats, red eared sliders, or the pythons in florida. - mikey
