You should just be able to resize your window to test things. The question is, what size screen do you want to support teh front page looking proper on? Someone out there, I'm sure, is still using an 800x600 screen as well (many people I've talked to that don't understand font scaling and icon scaling believe the only way to make things look larger on their screen so they can read them is to reduce the desktop size). I don't have an answer or even that much of a preference on the subject...
