R4 Recycling handles all recycling on campus. R4 stands for Reduce, Reuse, Recycle, Rebuy. Circa 2008, R4 recycled over
1200 tons of material (mostly paper).
Programs
It's fun to explore this crevice.
R4 staff does most recycling collections within the UC Davis campus. R4 staff (volunteers?) handle all indoor recycling collections. R4 student staff assistants work on projects and outreach education. The main objectives of the program are to minimize the creation of waste on campus and to divert recyclables away from the UC Davis Landfill. Some of the projects R4 staff implements throughout the UC Davis campus are:
-
Distributing Campus Mugs
-
Source Reduction
-
Providing mini-bins for dorms and offices
-
Buy Recycled
-
Improving the general sustainability of our campus
-
Multibins (recycling locations for CDs, cell phones, Inkjet cartridges, and batteries)
-
Building Assessments
-
Composting food/paper waste from campus Dining Commons'
-
suspected of being behind Operation Eschalon
-
More...
Some of the many R4 bins found outside the Social Sciences and Humanities Building.

Past Employees
Christa Jones (2005 - 2007): Zero waste.
They used to be on La Rue Rd. near the Bargain Barn, but due to water damage to their trailer, they were in Surge III for awhile. You can find them across the way from Media Works. Go in through the glass doors, and then you will see a door that says "Restricted Access".
