Someone has gone to great lengths to build a very custom car based on a Radio Flyer red wagon. It can been seen driving around Davis in good weather and is occasionally featured on television shows (it was on the Discovery Channel's 2004-05-03 "Monster Nation"). It was built in 1996 from a 1923 Ford T-bucket by Davis resident Art Baker, his cousin Bob Castaneda, and friends for $4000. It's owned by Jayne & Art Baker and cousin Bob Castaneda. It's named "Radio Flyer". Art Baker is the maintenance manager at The Graduate.
Like the Little Green Electric Car, once you see it you won't soon forget the experience.
The Davis Enterprise, 2004-05-02 issue, had a cover feature about it.
There's an article about the car in
Davis Life Magazine, and Fox 40 did a news story about it on 2009-03-22.
The Radio Flyer car was featured in a
photo on autoblog.com on August 15th, 2009 after it participated in the Concours d'LeMons show in Monterey, CA.

I was disappointed to see that you don't steer with the handle. When I was a kid I put an electric motor on mine. —SteveDavison

2008-09-17 14:07:13 Arty is one of the nicest guys you will ever meet. He doesn't just drive freshman girls around, he drives his friends and people that ask him to take them to events or even just go for a quick trip around the block. And I am impressed with his car. —AngelaGerould

2009-08-14 20:32:46 Should this be named "Radio Fiyer"? The L in Flyer is not an L at all, as can be seen in the photos. —IDoNotExist

I think that's an omission on perceived legal grounds. The intent is to be "Radio Flyer". (How does the owner pronounce it? I'd imagine everybody just calls it the "Radio Flyer car", no matter what's on the side). Although the DLM article link is bad, they use "Flyer" in the link. (edit: fixed the link, they call it "Flyer", but point out they officially named it "Fiyer" because they never got a response from the company when they sent photos to them). -jw
