I’m Rebecca Sterling, and I am running for ASUCD Senate with the BOLD slate. I am a second year International Relations and Psychology Double Major. I want to be your ASUCD Senator because I love our campus, but I believe there is much more I can do to ensure that ASUCD provides resources that will enhance our community and safety. I am dedicated and will not give up on accomplishing my goals. I plan to provide such clubs and organizations an opportunity to highlight themselves. This will give clubs and campus groups an opportunity to showcase their hard work and talents. By encouraging groups such as ["Aggie Pack"] to host events before big game weekends, community will be better fostered, and students will have the chance to win Aggie Pride items, such as tubesocks, by Aggie Pack distributing redeemable certificates days before big games.<br> + <br> + <br> + PICNIC DAY<br> + In stead of waiting for unfortunate events to happen on ["Picnic Day"], I plan to proactively work with the Picnic Day committee as well as our community sponsors and Police Department to make Picnic Day a safe environment, and a continuing source of pride for our students. I will develop a website that clearly states the rights of students, the rights of the police, and the dangers and risks involved with underage drinking and other illegal activities. This will improve student safety, and prevent conflict between our students and the police or community as a whole. I will work with our local business sponsors to maintain good relations with them, and assure their continuing support for this unique program.<br> + <br> + <br> + SAFEBOATS<br> + Every spring quarter many UC Davis students from groups throughout the UC Davis campus go house boating on Lake Shasta for a weekend. ["Safe boat"] has been providing students who are in need of medical care with the free services they need. Last year many of these students received medical assistance from Safe boat, but we ran out of supplies on the very first day! Although ASUCD provides some funding for Safe boat, it does not provide near enough to sponsor the boat for this year, or future years. I plan to initiate a club on campus, Water Safety Council, that will raise funds to assure our students will be provided with the precautions and care Safe boat and the Emergency Medical Technicians aboard offer.
