The UC Davis Specialized Transportation Services (STS) runs the Sunday/holiday Amtrak shuttle and charters Unitrans buses to groups.

STS is not the same as Unitrans, it is a separately-funded unit of ASUCD. However, buses, some vans, and Unitrans personnel are utilized. STS has two 15-passenger vans and two 20-passenger cutaways of its own (hence why "Unitrans" is not plastered all over them).

Tipsy Taxi was a separate unit (separately funded as well) from STS and STS oversees the operation of Tipsy Taxi but in Spring of 2006, the ASUCD Senate voted to combine the two units into one.

New Tipsy Taxi passes are available. The passes are $5 for 5 rides and are available from the Freeborn Box Office or STS office.

Chartering Buses

Persons interested in chartering buses can go to the basement of South Hall Room 4 (on the UC Davis campus) or call (530)752-9835. Call early—at least two weeks in advance—for a better chance of getting a bus or buses for charter. No single-deck or double-deck bus can be chartered on a regular school day before 7:30PM because all these buses are used in Unitrans service. STS does not charter buses 75 miles past Davis. If there are many charters already set for a certain date, pending charters can be denied; the earlier a charter is requested, the more likely it will be approved.

Charters are charged by the number of buses used, the total time in use (two-hour minimum), and the total mileage traveled. Mileage as a result of traveling to/from the garage and from drop off/pick up destinations to parking layovers is not charged. Thirty minutes will be added before the pick up time and after the drop off time to allow the driver(s) to perform a standard, required bus inspection for safety. Traveling time from the garage to the pick-up location, and from the drop-off location to the garage, will also be factored-in.
