Speed traps

Speed traps are places the Davis Police set up multiple car/motorcycle/Officers to focus on increased enforcement of traffic laws. The most notable one is along the Mace to Covell transition especially in front of the Harper Junior High. There are few if any students along the road ever due to buses, car pools and the fences which separated the cars from the bikes/pedestrians but it is a great place to nab "speeders." Don't take a chance, slow down to 25 MPH!!

In general, Davis PD seems to be a bit more reasonable about speeding enforcement than many communities. Most of the times I've seen a cruiser or a motorcycle with radar, it was at a good place to catch real speeders. Always be careful around schools and watch your speed as you come down off off the rail overpass eastbound on Covell.

In terms of the surrounding area, the CHP is definitely open for business on I-80. I see numerous speed traps and no shortage of victims on 80 just over the Sacramento River bridge, Cordelia Junction, and Business 80 through West Sacramento. Most of these stretches are also construction zones and carry the 2x bonus fine. A max of 70 MPH is wise on 113 despite the fact that most traffic is faster.

As of July 2011, I've noticed a LOT of people getting tickets on Cowell between the South Davis Safeway and the Richards Blvd overpass. I work over here, and pretty much see someone getting a ticket every day. Slow down and drive safe. — jefftolentino
