You know the drill. This page is for discussing the contents of the Student Focus page and the efficacy of DeWalt 18v hammer drills for delicate dental work.

Given the rather mutable nature of student politics (even using the same name), it makes sense to have a "Student Focus/2000 - 2008" or some such entry that is linked from a newly written current entry... if the group really has changed significantly. If it is just a method to try to clear the record and make new promises (a la a "New Formula!" sticker on the same package), it probably shouldn't be moved and restarted. Not following the politics at all, the obvious question seems: have the people involved changed faces significantly with a sharp break between the old and new? Followup: It appears from the below that they haven't changed — they are the ALL NEW Focus, just like every company and political party goes through a radical WE ARE NEW message about once a decade. I see no reason that this is a new subject and should go to a new entry. But that's just my current opinion. ;) —Evan 'JabberWokky' Edwards
2008-12-16 14:17:57 If there actually is a slate or new group formed it should probably be severed from the old group. Everyone seriously involved in the old student focus slates have graduated or disaffiliated. So any new group would be a complete cut from the old. Although this could be complicated if the new group runs on the past issues and platforms of the old slate. So I think its one of those "wait and see" things. In the meantime the new people can add a section to the current page about the re-formation of a new slate. —JamesSchwab

I am under the impression that it is a new group of people and ideas using the same name. That would be the reason for two entries with the same entry point. Is there a different name being bandied about? —jw
2008-12-16 15:22:52 I don't think the pages should be separated, regardless of how different the "new management" is from the old. Greg was a member of Student Focus and was an official candidate of the slate. Now he's restarting the organization. That hardly sounds like a "clean break" from the past.

No it doesn't... which is why I asked. —jw
2008-12-16 18:47:53 The ideas aren't actually dissimilar, comparing my chats across the years with the various Focites. A lot of the ideas, such as support for campus activities, support for the Aggie Pack, and limiting resolutions (ignore McInnis' influence), seem similar to Focus of Old. I agree with Schwab's "wait and see" approach. I think the next 12 months will probably cause some sort of realignment in ASUCD politics. What remains to be seen is whether Webb will be seen as credible enough to form a new slate around the old focus constituencies, or whether being the next Lee Weissman will be a just a dream. —BrentLaabs
2008-12-16 19:51:39 To address all concerns, Student Focus II is completely different than Student Focus of old.
Why not use a new name?
I like the name Student Focus. :)
Am I a barricade to a clean break from the past?
Not at all. Though I was "StuFo" in the Winter of 2007, I was hardly loyal in anything but name. I truly was a maverick, I did not support their plans to "cut Pathfinder" for example and ran on a platform to do the opposite. It's all a technicality.
Just wait and see. —GregWebb
2008-12-24 12:48:05 I say either they rename themselves to "Student Focus II" or we just keep one page. Having historical information relegated to a poorly-updated subpage isn't as helpful. Also, even if this was a new group, who's to say the 10+ (?) years of Student Focus information shouldn't be on the "Student Focus" page? —PhilipNeustrom
2008-12-24 12:49:41 I still say we make a wikispot ASUCDavis wiki, and interwiki link all ASUCD related stuff —StevenDaubert
