Chefs and some staff are still great, but there are a few people who really make this place extremely disagreeable. Especially the newest manager/waitress - she always messes up orders, is rude to customers, and does not know what she is doing. I have also witnessed her acting in appropriately with her staff - yelling at them in front of customers for no reason when she is doing nothing herself to alleviate the work load for the staff. Unfortunately, because of her presence, this is not an enjoyable place to be or eat. I feel sorry for the staff there because they have to deal with her. I do not recommend going to this place simply because of the lack of professional customer service &amp; management. Too bad because this place used to be so great with wonderful food and service - especially during Karaoke nights &amp; lunches. Please spare yourself the embarrassment and eat somewhere else. --["Users/0001customer100"]</span> </td> </tr> </table> </div> Sushi Unlimitedhttp://daviswiki.org/Sushi_Unlimited2009-10-29 19:44:05psneerComment added. <div id="content" class="wikipage content"> Differences for Sushi Unlimited<p><strong></strong></p><table> <tr> <td> <span> Deletions are marked with - . </span> </td> <td> <span> Additions are marked with +. </span> </td> </tr> <tr> <td> Line 141: </td> <td> Line 141: </td> </tr> <tr> <td> </td> <td> <span>+ ------<br> + ''2009-10-29 20:44:05'' [[nbsp]] HORRIBLE service. The Simba roll is one of my favorites, with its cheesy sauce, and the Jubilee is good too, with crab salad. Rocklin roll is another one I like, the whole shebang is tenpura fried and topped off with two addictive sauces.<br> + <br> + So aside from the somewhat mind-boggling array of rolls (which I think are the shining achievements on the menu), the soups are tasty and for $10 you can get an udon soup bowl with tenpura on the side... the shrimp is delicious!<br> + <br> + As to the service, I'm a fan of going up to the bar and watching the chefs work, and even before I was a regular the staff was friendly. The chefs are great for a chat (my best friend has the biggest crush on one of them ;D ) and if you come in often it becomes even more fun. They remember what you like and make good suggestions for trying new stuff, too!<br> + <br> + A couple things to keep in mind...<br> + -If you're not adventurous or a sushi virgin, there's plenty of variety even for basic stuff. A good first step is the Philadelphia roll or any of those other basic rolls. Still not into it? Try the soup or other hot items. You don't HAVE to order sushi.<br> + -Talk to the chefs! If you know what you like and don't like, let them know and they can help you pick something out. Also, need to customize a bit? No problem. I've got a friend that hates nori, and it's no big deal to have it left out.<br> + -Try coming in at odd hours. I've never had to wait for a table or spot at the bar when I come in around 5:30 or so.<br> + -You get what you pay for! This is pricier than, say, Fuji Chef, but it's definitely higher quality. If you're not picky about your food and looking for a great bargain, this may not be the place for you. It's a notch below, say, Mikuni (which will be moving in where Fuzio was, or so I've heard) both in quality and in price.<br> + -Even on a student budget you can get a great meal, especially if you come in with friends and order to split. You get the variety. Here's my method...<br> + In a group of 4 people, for example, get 1 item each to start. A bowl of udon is great (they're big bowls, ask for smaller bowls if you want to share around) and split the tenpura on the side, then go for 3 different rolls. If you're a big eater like me and want more, get a side bowl of rice to bulk up that soup and order two basic rolls for the price of one special roll. I really love getting the Philly and a tunavo with the spicy santa sauce on the side.<br> + <br> + ...and now I'm hungry.<br> + --["Users/KBathory"]</span> </td> </tr> </table> </div> Sushi Unlimitedhttp://daviswiki.org/Sushi_Unlimited2009-02-23 14:55:22condemned2bfreeComment added. <div id="content" class="wikipage content"> Differences for Sushi Unlimited<p><strong></strong></p><table> <tr> <td> <span> Deletions are marked with - . </span> </td> <td> <span> Additions are marked with +. </span> </td> </tr> <tr> <td> Line 101: </td> <td> Line 101: </td> </tr> <tr> <td> </td> <td> <span>+ ------<br> + ''2009-02-23 14:55:22'' [[nbsp]] Had dinner here a couple weeks ago. The service was pretty good considering it was dinnertime and almost every table there was occupied. The waitress' were friendly and our glasses were kept full the whole night. We each ordered 3 rolls so we had 12 different rolls total, from what I can remember we ordered the spider roll, simba roll, five star roll, jubillee roll, butterfly roll, spicy bomb roll, thundervalley roll, and a couple I cant recall the name of. ALL of the rolls were sub par to all the other sushi restaurants here in Davis. The soft shell crab and shrimp tempura in all our rolls tasted as if they were a day old so we were constantly, constantly, constantly chewing every bland roll. The sashimi on top of the rolls were good. But the fried crab and shrimp in the rolls were what killed it. We told our waitress and she told the sushi chef. I had the lunch special ($11.50 and probably the best deal on the menu) with teriyaki beef, tuna sashimi, and tempora. The tempora was down right bad; the brocoli had uncooked batter inbetween the base of the florets (really nasty and the vegetable itself was overcooked, i dont know how they managed that combo). The tuna sashimi was brown not only on the outside but also in the center. It did not taste good at all. The beef teriyaki had some grisly parts but overall was the most edible part of the meal. My brother had the same meal except for chicken and had the same complaints, but the chicken was actually decent, about at teriyaki express level (faty and gloppy sauce). Overall i would not go back, the quality is worse than the cheap places like ["nobu hiro"] for prices higher than the good places like ["Moshi Moshi"] amd ["Zen Toro"]. It's definitely overpriced. They charge the same as Mikuni but the plate is a LOT smaller than Mikuni does. Compared to Zen Toro which can be considered high-priced sushi in Davis, I personally rather go to Zen Toro and spend the same there than to have a small roll plate with insufficient sauce on it. Until you've gone to sushi places where the rolls are between $15 and $30, and it's $10 for two pieces of nigiri, settle down. Granted, things may have been a little hectic when they first opened (I don't know, I didn't start going until september), but everytime I've been there, I've been happy. The sushi is the best in davis by far. the next best place, osaka, only has like 8 rolls on the menu, 6 of which all share a significant ingredient (i think it was shrimp tempura). So if you don't want shrimp tempura, you're screwed. most of the waitstaff are nice and friendly, and all of the sushi chefs are fun and entertaining. their lunch and dinner specials are a steal, and their menu is HUGE! The down side of the place is that it can be slow when it's busy, but the wait is worth it for the quality. the fish is fresh, and the presentation of the food is beautiful. you people (broke college students) expect too much for your dollar and fifty cents. come on, it's sushi. if you want cheap food, walk across the parking lot to mcdonalds. --["Users/Lisa"]<br> - *If by fresh you mean brown tuna (and that was not just one serving, both I and my guest got the same thing). Its not that it is expensive it is that it is expensive for disgusting food. I don’t think there is a place in Davis that serves as bad fish as I got here. There is no excuse for that dish leaving the kitchen. In fact pretty much all the comments say that the quality does not warrant the price. That is obviously not the same thing as saying its good but expensive. If by cheap you mean not wanting to pay 20 bucks for Japanese food worse than the kind they can get at their local food court for 5$ then I guess we are cheap. I haven't been back since this past March because of the bad service I experienced. My girlfriend and I were seated and our server, Chad, greeted us and brought us a pot of hot tea. That was the last time we spoke to him for the rest of the half hour we stayed. Chad served tables all around us, but after he dropped off the tea, he never came back to take our order. I wish I could say he was busy, but when he wasn't taking orders or serving, he was flirting with the female staff by the soda dispenser. We made eye contact on multiple occasions and even gestured to him, but he never came back. After almost 45 minutes, we got up and left. On the way out, the hostess asked us if everything was okay and we told her we never got served. All she could say was, "oh." There were no apologies, no efforts to please us or even attempts to notify the manager on our behalf. The same for my tuna and my friend's entrees. Where's the fish??? The rolls were poorly constructed as well - although that is minor for me. I had the lunch special ($11.50 and probably the best deal on the menu) with teriyaki beef, tuna sashimi, and tempora. Most of the tempora was on par with the other japanese places in town, however the brocoli had uncooked batter inbetween the base of the florets (really nasty and the vegetable itself was overcooked, i dont know how they managed that combo). The tuna sashimi was brown not only on the outside but also in the center. It tasted OK but was not very fresh. The beef had som grisly parts but overall was pretty good. My brother had the same meal except for chicken and had the same complaints, but the chicken was pretty good. Overall i would not go back, the quality is worse than the cheap places like ["nobu hiro"] for prices higher than ["Moshi Moshi"] amd ["Zen Toro"].
