Talk Pages/Talk

I think the largest controversy of 2011 is that there is no talking, but there is an awful lot of typing. What began as a helpful nudge in the right direction became an all out brawl as one Wiki member after another quickly jumped on the bandwagon. One member creates a page, another came onto the scene and declared "This page needs a second page for it's other section which has nothing to do with the first." After this, a second member decried, "No! One page is more than enough! How dare you attempt to create anything you think is helpful when it just adds confusion!"

After some time went by, the issue settled but then came a Con Artist and people became worried. One girl began to cry and soon, even more people began typing. One member began preaching about it all, among other things, and then it became a lightning rod. Everyday people just wanted to talk, talk and talk. All of a sudden, the real world became a digital fantasy story filled with Trolls, gnomes and a plethora of other strange creatures including a DramaLlama.

It was getting out of hand.

Once people discovered you could talk about one page, they found that sometimes one talk page just wasn't enough. Soon everyone began talking more and more about everything until the general idea behind the Davis Wiki became lost in a convoluted miasma of arguments made by detractors and dissidents fighting with supporters and conformists. It was getting confusing.

The more time went on, the more it continued until everyone forgot completely about the truth behind it all...

No one was talking. Not a single one. In fact, no one had ever spoken a single word to each other on the Wiki. It had been type the entire time.

It was a truly sad revelation to make. People had been confused, people had been abandoned by this newly found pseudo-social activity, bamboozled by the ease in which one can succumb to the temptation of softly tapping keys in sequence to form words, create thoughts and arguments without ever truly facing their friends and enemies. Now, forced to see the reality of typing, not talking, some became angry "Why are you wasting my WikiSpace with this crap?!?" other became sympathetic, "You know, he's got a good point..." while still others just went on with their lives never knowing how quickly the art of actual talking was disappearing and being replaced with tiny, pixelated words.

Will it ever end? Perhaps not. And so, the type-talk replaces the talk-talk ever slowly but never ending...

2011-03-07 11:25:00   I created this comment box purely so I could say how awesome I think this page is...very meta. A talk page about talk pages. So cleverly written. Reminds me of one of my favorite books called The Brief and Frightening Reign of Phil by George Saunders. Anyway, thank you for creating this page. A little piece of brilliance. —EliseKane

2011-03-07 15:16:41   I completely disagree with this page!

Why? Because whenever I type, I quietly whipser aloud whatever I'm typing. Granted, most of the time, nobody is around to hear me whispering aloud, but I'm still whispering which I think still qualifies as talking, albeit quietly talking. I'm willing to bet that there are other people who, regardless of whether they would admit it or not, whisper as they type too.

I might be open to changing the name of "talk" pages to "whisper talk" pages, but don't take away the fact that I'm talking. Albeit, quietly talking. —jefftolentino

2011-03-07 18:10:13   Thanks for some of the kind 'type-written' words. I was bored when I woke this morning and this is what came of it. I see it has already gone into it's own little revision history thanks to Jason and others.. lol.

Cracks me up.

I don't know, just seems to be true and I figured I would have a little fun since it seems many are just into controlling the wiki and forgetting it is a place for the community to learn about others, learn about Davis and have fun while they are doing it. It is not now and has not ever been about control or domination as some would have us believe. Glad some of you got the point. Take care. —Wes-P
