Thai Nakorn is a welcome addition to Davis' already good choices in Thai restaurants. It seems almost always full at night. Once you get in the door the wait doesn't stop there, for many claim that the service tends to be painfully slow, especially if you are really hungry! Lunch hours are less busy. Favorite vegetarian dishes include vegetable Tom Yum and eggplant with tofu. A carnivore friend is very fond of the duck curry. Those who actually like eggplant should taste the Eggplant Special (best with pork if meat is desired). Great place to eat before hitting the Signature Stadium for a show.
Thai Nakorn allows take-out and does catering. Lunch specials starting at $6.25.

ct still hasn't forgiven them for displacing the ramen shop, but then he also hasn't forgiven the late ramen shop for CEASING TO SERVE RAMEN. Still glares at the place whenever he passes by. Admits the food isn't bad, though.
2005-02-21 14:10:41 this place is good, (i think davis has a good selection of thai restaurants compared to other cuisines like italian and chinese)...the lunch specials are a really good deal. 5-6 dollars depending on what type of meat. the pad thai is really good here, along with their eggplant lovers. 2k thai food might be a little better, but its a close call. the lunch specials come with soup, egg roll, and rice. The one thing that makes this place better than most in davis is that they give rice free with all non rice/noodle dishes, this actually makes it the cheapest thai food in davis. And thus if you factor in price this place is probably at least even with 2k thai.—MattHh
2005-04-15 15:21:29 This is my favorite Thai restaurant in Davis. They do a wonderful paneng curry. Have never had a wait to get a table, but there's always a good number of people there at dinner time. The portions are such that two people who order 1 appetizer and 2 entrees will probably have enough to bring some home. The prices are lower than Thai Bistro, but I wouldn't say the quality is any different. It's a great place to start the dinner & a movie date, as it's right next to the Signature Theatre. —SamanthaGrant
2005-04-18 20:18:10 Went there a few days ago, and was disappointed to be sure. Red curry (supposedly hot) was mild to the max(or min) and the food was soaking in corn starch. It was the only thing I tasted and made it really inedible. —DanielMedinaCleghorn
2005-07-07 21:10:44 Some dishes like the hot and sour soup are only for the adventerous. But dishes like the pinapple fried rice and stir fried veggies are unique and very yummy! —SiennaGrass
2005-07-08 08:22:05 Tried the Praram #30 once and it was so bad I couldn't even finish it. I can usually muscle my way through just about anything, but this was terrible. Just drowned in a sickly sweet peanut sauce that *must* have been made from Jif. Haven't been back since. Oh, and I usually like Praram! Thai 2K does it well, I believe. —AlphaDog
2005-07-21 16:02:36 Their red curry is the best I found in davis. Also, lunch is pretty cheap. I don't suggest the iced coffee, though. —JenniferEllis
2005-11-10 23:39:15 The portions they serve tend to be on the small side, and for the prices, seem quite expensive. The food isn't outstanding either, and tends to weigh heavily on the sweet side. The soup i ordered was also a bit heavy on the coconut milk; i like coconut milk as much as the next guy, but it was a bit much. —MatthewTom
2005-12-22 13:01:42 The #6 "Spicy Tofu" appetizer is so good that I crave it fortnightly! I think it is the best fried tofu in Davis. I don't know what they do to the basil leaves to make them so crispy, but they add a nice compliment to the mildly spicy sauce. Highly recommended. —MattJurach
2006-03-07 21:15:02 Can't believe I haven't commented. I've been here twice now, and both times the food has been consistently just above average. I don't think the meat is that fresh, that or they cook it weird because its always chewy. My friend found a piece of an eggshell in my drunken noodles, but otherwise I thought it was pretty darned good. I wish they refilled Thai Iced Tea. This places atmosphere reminds me of something that's like, generic chinese restaurant. There's relative decor on the walls, but nothing that really makes it special. No fancy tablecloths or really authentic dishes. I'll probably return here because it's cheap and good, but it's not my favorite in Davis. —SS
2006-03-19 14:35:19 I agree with MattJurach on the spicy tofu. I've been there a few times since it opened and their pad thai is inconsistant. One time it was insanely sweet, which is weird. —PattyLouieJunior
2006-03-30 18:27:21 Quite possibly the worst Pad Thai I've ever had- nothing spectacular taste-wise, I found three small shrimps, four floppy matchbox-sized pieces of tofu, no egg, a scant sprinkling of peanuts, and the entire thing was the same shade of orange as the slice of orange it came garnished with. However, the mountain of noodles filled me up. Their fried banana with coconut ice cream is awesome, but $5 is a little steep. Coconut ice cream must be harder to come by than I thought. My friend enjoyed her green curry with tofu. Ambience and the service were great, and portion sizes are huge. I appreciated the Kopiko at the end; I haven't had that since I was a widdle kiddie. :) —JennaChan
2006-05-04 18:17:42 Haven't tried every Thai restaurant in Davis, but this is the best I've found so far. Food is good but a bit pricey. You get what you pay for. —RayValdes
2006-05-08 00:13:41 I'm a wannabe foodie, and I've eaten lots of Thai food growing up, and I think I've been to every Thai place in Davis, and most of them have been pretty good actually. The one time I went to Thai Nakorn I'd have to say it was the worst I've ever had, Their Pad Thai was "insanely sweet" as someone else earlier put it. —TheodoreSuryapurnama
im confused by peoples comments on the sweetness, i've had their pad thai here several times and it is no sweeter than thai 2k. yes it is a little on the sweet side, but so is all the pad thai in davis. Sophias pad thai is not as good flavor wise but is less sweet. And all the other places including thai bistro and 2k thai are also very sweet. Not sure about thai recepies, but they are a lot pricier.
2006-06-11 11:40:35 Some of the dishes are good, but do not order padthai noodles here! Nice setting, service is pretty prompt, and reasonable prices for the portions. —IzzyLy
2006-06-11 14:31:12 Was pleasantly surprised - great seating outdoors, attentive servers, decent food. However, they didn't make it spicy enough. As a regular at Sophia's and Kathmandu I am used to being asked for the level of spiciness, so I suppose it's my fault, so be sure to ask for medium to hot spicy. —AlexPomeranz
2006-08-25 00:49:35 I ate at Thai Nakorn recently, and it was absolutely charming. I had the steamed eggplant with green beans and spinach, in a brown bean sauce over jasmine rice. It was AMAZING! OMG! and the decor was awesome! The art, and photography and everything else was amazing. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for a reasonably priced meal and great service. The kitchen is clean, and you can watch them make your meal. Every surface looks like its cleaned thoroughly!! For all you mibrobe monitors..this is the place for you! —GehLei
2006-10-13 18:25:18 I haven't been to all the Thai restaurants in town, but this is the best Thai food I've ever had. Their roast duck curry is amazing and addicting! They have an excellent Chef's special ...i think it was "Fish Basil" or "Thai Basil Fish" (some name of that sort)... that was delicious! Their pad thai tastes good to me, but many ppl have different preferences when it comes to pad thai. I enjoy the sweetness. The owner is also very nice and some of the servers are a little awkward (I'm guessing their her sons). I've been here at least 10 times (the owner knows me now), and this is probably the only restaurant in Davis that kept me coming back. —SaThai
2006-11-08 20:58:19 the thai food was ok. alot closer to being authentic than sophias —AnnThiNguyen
2006-11-15 16:40:19 The best Thai food I've had in Davis. The service is friendly and fast. The prices are about what you'd expect for Thai food —DanLawyer
2006-12-13 20:55:43 These guys seem to have a terrible location and an ugly exterior, but don't let that fool you! The food here is of great quality. It has the spice and ingredients that make it taste great. Also, the interior is beautiful, definetly a great date spot despite the hideous exterior. I mean seriously that sign outside is just butt ugly! —JohnHumperdinkle
2007-01-07 13:03:48 This place is DELICIOUS! My friends and I love their Roast Duck curry. The service here is great. I love restaurants with great service. I would come back in an instance. —BeeBooBee
2007-02-19 10:53:58 I had a bad experience with a Thai resturaunt years ago because the food was so ridiculously spicy it made me sick and it was outrageously expensive. So I was kind of questioning my decision to go here for a date. Overall, I wasn't dissapointed. The service was friendly and quick (on a Friday night). I ordered the Fresh Ginger with Chicken, Pad-Se-Ew, and the Combination Seafood Garlic. All of them were very nice with their mix of flavors and spices. However, I do not believe the portions they give you for the Fresh Ginger and Combination with Seafood are worth what you pay. I guess one would expect to pay more for a seafood dish? But the chicken dish was finished off easy. The Pad-Se-Ew was the only thing they gave us a lot of. Pricing aside, it was very nice. Also, I have a direct friend who use to work for 2K Thai Food and she said the kitchen and produce they use are disgusting (infested with insects). So I decided to play it safe. —CoreyPham
"2007-05-27 18:21:00" Sports mediocre food, coco-soup is extremly spicy and service is extremly sloooow. You'd better try Thai Bistro - the same no-service - but at least prices are 50% lower.
2007-07-22 13:36:49 I enjoyed the food here except for the Garlic Prawns which had waaay too much pepper. Green curry was tasty with rice but not the best. What is the best anyway? Pineapple rice was good but I didnt like the dried pork (it looks like carpet haha. Overall the price and food quality was good. —BrandonToo
2007-10-23 14:19:56 The food is good. We like the Chicken Satay and curry puffs for starters. The chicken panang curry is nice, and the pineapple fried rice is a favorite (huge portion.) The service has always been prompt and friendly. They serve brown rice upon request. When I go home, it's the only restaurant I miss in Davis. —HappyGilmore
2007-10-25 18:30:26 I like the vegetarian Pad thai, and spicy tofu here. The service has always been prompt and friendly. The curry puffs are nice, too. —HeatherBeck
2007-12-02 19:54:05 I think this is the best Thai resturant in Davis. My favorites are: roasted duck salad, the eggplant with curry (i forgot the spelling of it), red curry, and roasted duck curry, Tom Yum Veggies (soup). If you go to this place, don't forget to try these. —ayusdream
2008-01-12 08:56:53 Although Davis offers many, many good Thai restaurants I must say I think this place has the best Thai food in town. I love the spicy eggplant. Never had a bad dish here. I recommend it highly. —KarenEmbry
2008-02-09 18:13:29 The food here was totally disgusting and unacceptable. —StellaChiara
2008-02-09 23:25:31 The food and the service is great here. My family and friends especially love the food and will definitely come back for more. —makiko
2008-02-17 21:49:04 Thai Nakorn is definately the best restaurant in Davis. :D I go there at least two to three times a week. It beats all of the Thai restaurants in Davis by FAR! Try their selection of curries. They're the best! I especially enjoy their green, red, and duck curries. After you eat at Thai Nakorn, you definately will not like any other Thai restaurant for the rest of your life for nothing can beat Thai Nakorn. Their Thai iced tea is also really good. Prices are good. The food is awesome. Why go anywhere else? xD I always take new friends and family to this restaurant because I know for a fact that it's a restaurant in Davis that won't disappoint. —BigRedGum
2008-02-17 21:54:22 Uhhh, to Stella and the other stupid guy, you must be mistaken because Thai Nakorn's service is extremely quick compared to Thai Bistro. When I went there, they took at least 45minutes to get my food on the table and it wasn't even that great. To the spice, you probably made the stupid mistake of ordering something spicy, so of course it would taste that way. Next time try something more mild, like their yellow curry, which is extremely mild. If that's still too spicy for you, then damn, your taste buds are just out of wack. —BigRedGum
2008-02-17 22:18:52 Even tho I'm in grad school now, I always try to stop by Thai Nakorn when I'm passing through for some awesome food. Awesome food, good service, clean building. It works. —DMT
2008-02-18 00:24:36 Reasonably priced Thai food, better service that 2K Thai, tasty curries—overall, a really mice ;[ace to go out with friends and eat. —mishal
2008-02-20 04:59:03 I was going through the reviews of all the thai restaurants in davis, and I noticed that there are two people that completely trashed 2k Thai, but gave overwhemingly fantastic reviews for thai nakorn? also, one of those people has been warned not to alter negative reviews on this very page. now, im not making any accusation, but it LOOKS like theyre using sabotage and other shady techniques to give thai nakorn a boost.
As for the food here at thai nakorn. its not too bad. i would say that its the most authentic thai restaurant, but certainly not the best in town. the service was just about average because the folks arent like the typical snappy asians at most asian restaurants. however, you can totally tell they arent trained to please customers. —echelon
2008-02-23 10:37:50 I haven't been to too many Thai restaurants or have eaten enough of it. However, I think I shall try some more dishes after eating here. The duck curry is my favorite. I brought my family here and they all loved it. —Johnkenny
2008-02-23 15:20:50 I don't get all this talk about which Thai restaurants are "authentic". What does that even mean? The same as Thai people eat in Thailand? Which Thai people? —KenjiYamada
2008-02-24 02:15:13 My favorite Thai food in Davis so far! Delicious Pad Kee Mow noodles with tofu (minus the egg), & they said they could make their curries without the fish sauce. Yay! The green curry was great— spicy & aromatic. The service has been friendly every time. I get out of work late sometimes, & they have always been very accommodating when I ordered food to go 1/2 hour prior to their closing time. Decent wine selection with very reasonable prices. They even made a Thai Iced Tea with coconut milk for me when I said I was vegan. Usually, I just skip the cream, but the coconut milk was a tasty treat! —AprilAries
2008-03-06 16:49:26 My boyfriend and I always go to Thai Naikorn when we're in the mood for Thai. This is probably the best quality thai food place that you can get for it's price. I personally prefer Thai2k, but their menu is wayyy too expensive. Try the duck curry at Thai Naikorn. It's great. —SmartenU
— What do you consider "wayyy too expensive"? -hapa21
2008-04-06 19:36:09 The Duck Curry is delicious, although the portion is a little small. The Pra Ram (choice of meat in a peanut sauce) is also tasty. I found it to be creamier than the Pra Ram served at Thai Bistro, which is the Thai restaurant I usually go to. I would not recommend the Thai Fried Rice, as it was a little bland when we had it. However I do enjoy their Pineapple Fried Rice (which contains raisins and nuts). —at86
2008-04-12 22:17:01 Perhaps I came on a bad night, but I was kind of disgusted by the food I ate here. I got Pad-Se-Ew noodles (my favorite thai dish) and they were swimming in sauce, and when the menu says a dish has "vegetables" apparently what they mean is soggy cabbage and 2 pieces of broccoli. Good portion sizes, fair prices, but I won't be coming back here due to poor food quality. —SRB
2008-05-15 18:10:38 The lady there (owner?) is always very friendly, and very nice towards kids. The food tends to be on the sweeter side, compared to other Davis Thai places. Davis has so many other Thai eateries that you're quite sure to find a place that you like, though. —youkai
2008-06-07 19:36:25 I'm a sucker for thai food. This place is a bit sweeter than your usual place. Although I like more authentic thai places (like the ones in thai town in LA), I consider this the best thai comfort food that I've found. —atwong
2008-06-18 15:44:11 The lady there (owner?) is always very kind to kids, and the stuff there is not too spicy, which suits our taste. —youkai
2008-06-21 15:04:01 Decent enough food, not as good as Sophia's. Service was not fantastic. Had to wait a bit longer than we would have liked for our food. When it did arrive, one dish was made with shrimp; we ordered chicken. We only ordered water to drink and had to keep requesting that our glasses be refilled. —NoWayJose
2008-07-05 14:56:19 My significant other and I are fans of thai nakorn. The owner Pim is such a great person. She is very friendly. The food there is pretty good and has to be my favorite thai restaurant in davis. Tom Kah is my favorite soup there. Their lunch specials are cheap! If you like eggplant, then I recommend the eggplant lover. Their fried basil and chicken appetizer is also good and their garlic seafood is also good. Drunken Noodles and Dry Curry are other favorites. Service is not bad. —islandboy12
2008-08-04 02:58:15 This place is not just the worst Thai place i've eaten at, but it's the worst restaurant i've been to, period. I went here with my girlfriend; i had the prikh king with pork, and she had the yellow curry. Her potatoes were mushy, and the curry had no spice to it whatsoever. Mine was much worse. I hope that the pork was bad, because it had the worst stench to it. If it was good pork, then i really think they should reconsider switching wherever they get their meat from. At first i thought it was just the piece i had, so i tried another, to no avail. They all had the putrid smell of unkempt pork. So i decided maybe it wasn't a complete waste, maybe the vegetables would be ok. The sauce was so overwhelmingly sweet that it wasn't even worth eating. And to top it off, the glass of water i had to drink to wash the horrible taste of the meal was never refilled. My girlfriend couldn't finish her meal either, and suggested we ask for the check when they filled our waters. I agreed, but the server never came nor made eye contact. This was literally the only time i have ever had to go to a server to ask for a bill, and the first time i have ever tipped less than 15%. —daovis
2008-09-12 15:33:39 definitely one of my favorite thai restaurants in davis. the owners are really nice. the good is wonderful. what more can i ask for? prices are cheaper than other thai restaurants in davis, and for the quality of the food, it's a good deal overall. highly recommended! —jinhwang
2008-11-13 15:46:30 I love this restaurant. I have never had a bad meal, but the best is the Mango Chicken! —sah133
2009-01-08 21:39:44 Mmmmm, one of my absolute favorite restaurants. It's super clean, staff is so friendly, dishes are not only delicious but consistently so, and the place is just cozy(especially on a cold winter day, or on the outside patio in summer. Love Thai Nakorn and will not be happy if it ever leaves (although I really don't see how it could.) —dgirl
2009-01-19 14:08:35 The service here is really good. I had the pad thai, and it definitely tasted better and more authentic than that at Sophia's. My boyfriend had the pineapple fried rice and said it wasn't too flavorful. I suppose it was overall okay, but definitely a place to try. —renee415
2009-03-25 19:23:45 The green curry here is pretty good. I mainly enjoy their Dry curry. YUM YUM!!! I've also tried the duck curry. It had good flavor but too much fruit in it. —Kehaar
2009-04-15 11:51:34 Best Authentic Thai Restaurant in Davis!! Hands Down.
I got this account just to give them a review.
They are relatively small, and do not have lots of experience with a packed place (happens on Saturday and Friday nights). I recommend take out, not because there service is bad, but because you can skip the wait.
Its reasonably priced and the people who own it are really nice.
One time I went there for take out, right as they were closing for lunch and they gave me the rest of there egg rolls for the day.I found them with my huge portioned meal once I got home. They came with the sauce and everything.
I love this place and HIGHLY recommend it. —LotsofThoughts
2009-05-04 16:32:46 Really good Thai food. I love their special pineapple fried rice, the best I've eaten so far. —thtly
2009-05-06 16:49:13 After reading the reviews here, I decided to bike over to Thai Nakorn today for lunch and was not disappointed. I got there around 12:15 and it was quiet. The lady was courteous, seated me, took my order, and brought my food—all in a timely manner. I've only tried one other Thai restaurant (KetMoRee) and was disappointed—but Thai Nakorn was the complete opposite. I always have red curry with chicken wherever I go, and when my dish arrived, I could tell just by the look and the smell of it that it was going to be delicious. And it was! Good price and authentic taste! I may try out the other Thai restaurants Davis has to offer, but I'm already very pleased with this one. —kg18
2009-05-07 09:46:45 Thai Nakorn has been our favorite Thai place in Davis ever since it opened. The owner and the servers are both very friendly. We have eaten at all Thai restaurants in town and have found this one to be the most authentic and consistent with the quality of food. We have been there so often that of course we have had days when the food wasn't so great, went to another Thai restaurant and realized that 'not so great' was better than the others. We are vegetarian and our favorite dishes are the soup, Tom Yam, the salad, Som Tam, Panang curry and the spicy eggplant. 'We' includes my 8 and 2 year old daughters who eat as heartily as us when we visit here. —shruti
2009-05-08 22:18:06 Tofu Appetizer is delicious. I love their Pad Thai and Pad Kee Mow. Our favorite is the Roast Duck curry. The owner is really friendly and their price is decent. The lunch menu is great, love the eggroll. For two people we spent less than $30 for an appetizer and two dishes. I'm not a fan of their Thai Iced Tea but their food is great. —BeeBooBee
2009-05-09 02:48:37 I love Thai Nakorn— it's still my favorite Thai restaurant in Davis. (See my earlier comment above.) Last time we picked up an order to go, the food just wasn't as good as it usually is. (Barely any tofu in the curry & very salty, but they were very busy that night.) Tonight when I went in, I mentioned my last visit, & I asked them to please make sure we get enough tofu this time. The owner came over, apologized & offered to buy one of the dishes for me this time. I thanked her for her generous offer, but told her I wanted to pay for my meal. She then gave me my Thai tea on the house. Wonderfully warm customer service that made me feel that they truly care about the food they are serving. I will be a loyal customer for as long as we are in Davis! —AprilAries
2009-05-09 23:56:40 I ate here tonight (the second time ever and in seven days), bringing my mother along so she could try out Thai food for the first time. I came here for lunch for the first time; but at night, I really like the dim lighting. Not crowded—food was delicious (we both had panang curry w/ chicken and calimari appetizer). My thai iced tea was good. Faa was very warm, especially to my mother who was very new to Thai cuisine—she alone just made my experience and my mother's first experience at Thai Nakorn so much more enjoyable. —kg18
2009-06-09 20:16:10 Excellent food. I started coming here after 2k is now KetMoRee.... and prices are higher. I can only speak for the panang curry but it was delicious in so many ways. Perfect spiciness too, not too much but still there. I have tried Thai Nakorn, 2k Thai, Sophias, and Thai Bistro. So far, I'd say Thai Nakorn wins them all (then Thai Bstro next best, 2k and Sophias) —Lala
2009-06-22 21:36:37 WORST EXPERIENCE EVER!!! I've been to this restaurant before and I was pleased with its good service and food. I decided to come to this place after my graduation ceremony. Big mistake! The restaurant was not super busy (it was past 2 pm), and yet, my family and friends had to sit outside when the sky looked like it was about to rain. After we were seated, our waitress did not show up to take our orders for a good 20 minutes. When I finally went in and asked for menus, the waitress was super rude and dropped the menus on a table to give back to my table. I gave menus to my table, and had to rush in and ask the waitress to take our orders. After she reluctantly took our orders, it took at least 40 minutes for them to serve our food! My friends and I had to run across to taco bell, because we were starving!!! Surprisingly, we got better service at taco bell! After we ate our food from taco bell and came back to the restaurant, our food finally came and we ate our food. The food was not as good as it was the previous times. My parents bit into their rice, and it turned out to be RAW!!!! After we ate, we needed boxes for leftovers. The waitress did not even ask us if we needed boxes, and I had to go back into the restaurant to ask. What surprised me was her generous service given to customers who just walked in!! I repeatedly asked for boxes, and she finally gave them to me. She also handed me the bill to give back to my table. I even had to give the bill to my family and return the bill to the waitress who was sitting inside!! The waitress basically gave us a really bad attitude and seemed irritated with us. After my family and friends left, we were all super unhappy with the bad service! One of my friends even told me that I was the waitress the entire time! It was a huge mistake to come here after graduation. I used to like this place a lot, but I will NEVER go back!! —Ann
I don't get this... you've had many good experiences, but after one bad one, you're done? Any restaurant can have a bad night. You might talk to the manager and see what sort of a response you get. Or, try the restaurant again another night and see if it's better. I don't give up on restaurants I like so easily. —CovertProfessor
2009-07-23 05:24:43 I love their pumpkin curry dish! Yummy! I like KetMoRee's and Thai Bistro's soups much better though. —Ilovetacos
