The Buzz is a relatively new annual party event at UC Davis campus, beginning around 2005. Featuring free entertainment, games, food, and fun, it's presented on the first Friday night of the academic year. It generally features live bands, such as Suburban Legends (2007) or Double Funk Crunch (2008). The alcohol-free event also features inflatable games, performance competitions, carnival games, and information booths.
The Buzz is similar in concept to the now-defunct Turbulence, which had attempted to be an on-campus concert and game night aimed mostly at freshmen, although it's open to all UC Davis affiliates as well as community members. It began the same year that the Turbulence program had been canceled. The Buzz, however, is presented by ASUCD Entertainment Council, Campus Unions, Campus Recreation and Student Housing, and has been more successful with a turnout of 9000 in 2008, about half of which were freshmen.
This year the Buzz will be held September 25th. It'll begin at 6 p.m. and continue until 10 p.m. on the East Quad and West Quad. The 2009 event features music from hip hop artists
U-N-I and reggae band
Natural Roots.

2009-04-24 13:53:20 I've heard there will be a UCD Idol or some other talent show competition for this event. Anyone else heard anything? —MattSmidebush
