Theta Chi Fraternity was founded on Thursday, April 10, 1856 at 9:00 p.m. in the Old South Barracks on the campus of Norwich University in Norwich, Vermont, by two military cadets, Frederick Norton Freeman and Arthur Chase. The early history of Theta Chi Fraternity is closely connected with the history of Norwich University. In 1866 a massive fire devastated the university, completely destroying the Old South Barracks. This disaster prompted the university to move from Norwich, Vermont to its present location in Northfield, Vermont. During fall quarter in 1881, Norwich University was reduced to only 15 students and Theta Chi membership was reduced to one undergraduate member, James M. Holland. In November of that year, Phil S. Randall and Henry Hersey approached Holland and insisted that they be allowed to join Theta Chi; Holland agreed, thus saving the fraternity from extinction. Theta Chi Fraternity currently has over 150 active chapters and colonies across the United States and Canada and has initiated over 170,000 members since its founding. It is a member of the North-American Interfraternity Conference. As of May 2007, Theta Chi was the 9th largest collegiate male fraternity.
The Zeta Xi Chapter of Theta Chi fraternity in Davis has 14 habitable rooms for undergraduate members and as of May 2008 has 35 active members. Theta Chi rests in the perfect location across from campus and between two lovely neighbors; Sigma Alpha Epsilon Pi and Pi Beta Phi. Theta Chi has been located at the same 501 Russell Blvd location since 1970, providing it with the longest continuous run at a single location among fraternities.
Theta Chi placed 2nd for the men's bracket in Arrow Jam in 2005.
On April 5th, 2008, Theta Chi held a concert with performers including Zion-I and Mistah FAB. The fraternity plans to put on a concert for the 2009-2010 school year; so keep your eyes open.
The Creed of Theta Chi
"I believe in Theta Chi, its traditions and its ideals. Born of sturdy manhood, nurtured by resolute men, enobled by high and sacred purpose, it has taken its place among the educational institutions of America as a promoter of knowledge, an advancer of culture and a builder of character.
It inspires true friendship: teaches truth, temperence, and tolerance, extols virtue, exacts harmony, and extends a helping hand to all who seek it.
I believe in the primacy of Alma Mater: in the usefulness of my Fraternity, in its influence and its accomplishments and I shall do all in my power to perpetuate its ideals, thereby serving my God, my country and my fellow-man."
— Frank H. Schrenk, 1915

Theta Chi at UC Davis welcomes all incoming freshmen and transfer students to join us for our Fall 2011 rush.
The Zeta Xi Chapter of Theta Chi was founded in 1967 at UC Davis. Since then we have grown to become one of the strongest brotherhoods on campus.
The House:
-14 rooms with 18 brothers living in next year and the rest living close by
-One of the best fraternity locations, right across from the Segundo dorms
-2 minute walk to classes
-Because our alumni own the house, we pay one of the cheapest rents of anyone in Davis
Social:
-We host a cocktail, brotherhood event, or exchange with a sorority every Thursday
-Some of the craziest parties in Davis
-Hosted Zion I and Mistah F.A.B. in concert right on our front lawn
-We regularly go on beach outings and cabin trips to Tahoe
-Hosted private hip hop show and open bar at Bistro
-Formals which in the past have included a private cruise around the San Francisco Bay and all expenses paid for hotel after-party
-We have teams compete in intramural sports on campus every season
Philanthropy:
-We regularly schedule brotherhood events to work for the community
-We attend and support all sorority philanthropy events including Alpha Phi’s King of Hearts, Tri-Delts Big Bats, Theta’s Rock our Casa, and many more.
-We work at Giants and 49’ers games to fundraise (and we get to watch parts of the game for free)
