For example, African American Family Day, used to be a weeklong celebration, but campus decided that excessive partying and some resultant violence meant a downscaling of the event was needed. This has never been a result of events such as the Sterling riot. --["AlphaDog"]
-
- * It looks to me like it is still a weeklong celebration --["JasonAller"]
- * I've heard this before..can someone who knows something about African American Family Day write something about it here?
- ------
- 2005-04-11 10:25:47 nbsp I see your point, however I don't see how the downscaling of African American Family Day in any way affects Picnic Day. Picnic day isn't the celebration of white culture, it is an event for people to come and visit the school and see what it is all about. I think calling it white family day is just ignorant. In response to your comment concerning the Sterling Riot, that happened the day before picnic day and really had nothing to do with it. Some residents of sterling decided to throw a multi apartment party and it was widely advertised. --["GeorgeLewis"]
- ------
- 2005-04-11 11:39:36 nbsp What's drunk tank? --["AbbyLawson"]
- ------
- 2005-04-11 11:46:13 nbsp You should talk about why these are traditions for you..Subjective lists are sort of pointless IMO.. --["PhilipNeustrom"]
- ------
- 2005-04-11 11:52:07 nbsp I agree. I also think a lot of these things on here aren't traditions...just services. Take In-n-Out for example, that isn't a tradition, that is a food chain. Tipsy is a service. I think when I created this page I had just Aggie traditions in mind, but it doesn't seem as though we can come up with very many of those. --["GeorgeLewis"]
- ------
- 2005-04-11 11:56:20 nbsp This page has a certain poetry to it. Saying In-N-Out in reference to a drunk tradition has a good metonymy to it. Since In-N-out is open late then it makes sense for the drunks to go there. --["RobRoy"]
- ------
- 2005-04-11 12:13:03 nbsp But I am not sure that is a tradition, that is just being drunk, which also isn't a tradition. That is like saying going to schoool or walking or working out is a tradition. --["GeorgeLewis"]
- ------
- 2005-04-11 15:54:42 nbsp I think that listing random places as traditions is pretty stupid. Maybe they're places that you "traditionally" go when you're smashed, but that doesn’t make the place a tradition—it also doesn’t mean that other people go there when they’re drunk, and, in general, a tradition requires that more than a handful of people practice it. If you were to write about the specific tradition of getting drunk off Gin and Tonics at Froggy's and then walking to In-n-Out for a double-double before playing Frogger on Highway 80 and such an event was practiced by a huge majority of Davis residents and was performed every second Saturday of each month beginning with the letter J, then that would be a noteworthy tradition that deserved Wiki space. --["SummerSong"]
- ------
- ------
- 2005-04-12 17:13:31 nbsp There is no shortage of wiki space, and I assure you that these drunk traditions are widely practiced.
