2005-07-11 07:07:17   Be careful. They weren't honest with me about how long my piercing would take to heal-they wait until after you have been pierced to tell you it can take months, unlike the sheet they give you that says a couple of weeks. They also pierced me between sizes, so the ring that I wear for my piercing is either uncomfortably tight or too loose. Think twice before going here. —MargotParfitt

2005-09-05 00:30:33   Got my tongue done there - extremely professional and clean. Their aftercare sheet is chock full of helpful info and they gave me sea salt. —AynReyes

2005-09-07 20:36:44   Got a piercing done there today. Avi couldn't of been more professional and helpful. Great place, cool atmosphere. —DaveCar

2005-09-30 23:15:43   they are very friendly and helpful- answered all of my questions about a re-pierce —MattJurach

2005-11-18 19:07:31   Got my nose done about 6 weeks ago and haven't had a single problem with the piercing. Am going in tomorrow to get the jewelry adjusted. Avi was awesome and super easy to work with. He adjusted and readjusted the spot on my nose until it was exactly where I wanted it. —MeganGarcia

2005-11-29 10:33:17   Yeah. Avi's a cool guy. I got my navel done there not too long ago, and it's convienient to buy jewelry there here for my other piercings as well... and for "MargotParfitt", yeah. they only use set gauges, and the healing time for piercings is generally different for everyone. It depends on how much you mess with it and keeping it from getting infected and such. They're slightly expensive when it comes to jewelry, but relatively cheap piercing wise. —NoraSandstedt

2005-12-15 22:23:07   There are two sizes to any piercing...the gauge of the piercing (the hole) and the actual size of the ring (diameter). There are standard diameters to jewelry. That's what doesn't fit. —MargotParfitt

2006-01-30 10:24:46   Went in in august to talk about some custom work and left loads of ideas and pictures related to what i wanted. The guy (think the guy who owns the shop) said he'd sketch out some ideas and give me a ring. Did I hear anything else? No, he was probably too busy doing shitty TV advertisements... —AndySutton

2006-05-24 15:38:42   Chris has left Urban Body and is starting up his own shop. He is the best person in Davis to be pierced by. I have heard alot of negative things about other piercers there, so be careful. Greg is a great tattoo artist, and has been there for such a long time that I know he's reliable. Avi is the owner and I've heard he's not the best piercer (friends of mine who have been pierced by him had been pierced crooked or uneven.) If you want a tattoo, go see Greg, if you want to get pierced, wait for Chris to open his new shop! Should be soon! —CatStarr

2006-05-25 22:23:29   Chris did a wonderful job on two of my piercings. Another time, Avi did my piercing, but I didn't trust him; I did not like his technique and felt that he knowingly overcharged me. Recently I went in for an orbital piercing and was charged in full, only to be told that no one was there to pierce at the moment; they had gone to get food. I waited 50 minutes and still no one was available. I had to be somewhere else, so I asked for the money to be charged back on my card. The girl at the counter said she'd be a moment and went into the back room. She then returned, apologizing, saying that honestly, she didn't know how to put the money back on the card. I was given a gift certificate for the amount I paid, and then I returned the next day. Luckily, my experience was much better. The piercer, Zenaida, was actually there. Very nice and seemed experienced. Overall I think I trust Urban as a satisfactory facility, though my experiences have varied depending on who the piercer and receptionist have been. —EliseKane

2006-05-28 18:10:57   I haven't been pierced here, but I went in to buy some new jewelry and found that they are selling externally threaded barbells for piercings. Any reputable place would not use or sell externally threaded jewelrey, as this really agravates the piercing when you change it. Further, the jewelry was of poor quality (very rough, poorly machined threading) and really overpriced for what it was. I would caution people that have piercings or are thinking about getting one to educate themselves about the industry standards, and find a shop that does reputable work. Anyone can stick a needle through you and put in a piece of metal, but you should know what the standards are before making a decision. [WWW]http://www.bmezine.com/DudeNude

2006-05-28 21:52:37   I haven't been pierced here but I did buy some spirals here. I prefer SubQ in Sacramento. —EmmyMelton

2006-05-29 18:28:01   I can vouch for SubQ and the quality of jewelry there. They make their own jewelry as well as sell quality stuff from anatometal. I think the owner used to work for anatometal. Never been pierced here, but the jewelry is top of the line internally threaded surgical grade stainless steel. Another really great place is Staircase in Santa Cruz. It's a bit of a drive, but the piercers are very professional. They wont just pierce anyone that walks in-they actually talk to you about the healing time and care and ask you questions about the activities you will be doing afterwords. —DudeNude

2006-06-06 16:31:32   Chris from Urban Body has relocated to his own shop! PRIMARY CONCEPTS which is between Roma and Chipotle. Along with his great experience he has an amazing selection of jewelery. —CatStarr

2006-07-16 19:30:06   Very professional and knowledgable, nice jewelry selection. —SuzzyGear

2006-08-07 01:17:04   I have tattoos and piercings, and I would never go to a shop here. I've been to Urban Body and American Raffiti (when it was open). I did not feel comfortable being tattooed or pierced either place. For the best of the best, Wild Bill's in Roseville is where it's at. Check out their website [WWW]http://www.wild-bills.com/index.htm I have heard good things about Sub Q in the past, but nothing lately. —ChimChiminey

2006-10-09 20:55:54   I got my nose pierced here. It was quick, easy, and not half as painful as I expected it to be. The aftercare card they gave me really helped to keep it clean and prevent infection. Definitely buy the cleaning supplies because they work well if you follow the instructions. —MegDana

2006-10-14 22:22:00   I got my first tattoo here today from Chris - not sure if it's the same Chris that reportedly got his own shop. Very clean, good atmosphere. Chris did a fantastic job and was very friendly. I'd definitely go here again. —EmilyBlake

2007-01-17 01:37:09   This place sucks in my opinion. For piercings at least. I have bought around 4 lip piercing here only to have the threading break in days. Dumb on my part but when I lose my lip piercing I need another. Now I'm going to put the effort and always go to Sub q in downtown sac where I have not have the same problem. I think the customer service at urban body sucks too. Do not, do not come here for piercing & piercing jewelry. —JohnMercado

2007-02-20 22:34:47   I got my eyebrow done today, and I went in knowing the critisism of others. I got friendly service by Avi and he walked me through the entire process. He also educated me on how to keep it clean. Prices were average, but customer service was fantastic. —TrishaOxford

2007-02-24 15:55:25   I got my naval pierced yesterday. Avi is a very professional and nice person. I really recommend you go here for any piercing. It's awesome and the prices are reasonable. —JennGarcia

2007-02-26 14:10:54   I've gotten a total of 5 piercings there and they couldnt' be better...one time i went with two friends and we took forever to decide but they were still super patient and nice. Avi rules, very professional and chill, and he gave us really good ideas on what kinds of piercings to get done. —Patricia

2007-02-28 13:35:23   I've never had my ears pierced with a needle (it's always been a gun) so I was scared but it felt like nothing! Avi's very nice and tells you exactly what he's doing so you don't freak out. Good place. —CourageCowardlyDog

2007-03-25 09:07:51   I love Urban Body. I've gotten three piercings there, and everytime Avi has been patient and very chill. I would definitely recommend this place to ppl interested in getting a tattoo or piercing. —TiffanyChang

2007-04-30 09:12:59   I've gotten my ears pierced and stretched, gotten my lip peirced and brought friends to get piercings to Avi at Urban Body. Its the best piercing shop I've been to. Avi is so sweet and knowledgable. I wont go to any other shop. I highly recommend for piercings! —Jess510

2007-05-24 22:11:19   The piercer dude was nice...I think he was French Canadian from the accent. I noticed they were very law-abiding, what with the clean needles and following the mandatory 'need to show ID' in order to get anything done, so they aren't as shady as they could be. However, I think the piercings could have been better. I only got my cartilage on my ear done and two more lobe piercings. I didn't figure it was that hard but a few days later, I realized that my lobe piercings weren't symmetrical. Ummm...didn't know you could mess that up but I guess you can. Oh well... —JuneHuang

2007-06-04 17:48:32   Hi, my name is Avishay (Avi) and I'm the owner of Urban Body. I am really sorry to hear about this- we had a guest piercer in the shop b/c I was on vacation , and it sounds like you got the piercing while I was away - I will be more than happy to fix these piercings for you and get them to perfectly match each other without a charge, of course. Please feel free to stop by anytime and ask for me. PEACE OUT :) —Avishay

2007-06-04 22:43:10   i created an account just to be able to add a comment about this place— it SUCKS! I was tattooed by some tall orange headed heavyset dude, who must've just received his (very) cheap equipment that week in the mail. Needless to say it was quite evident that we were one of his first paying customers (although he stated otherwise). because of the placement of the tattooes (on my toes) i was not particular so much about what it looked like—i figured it'd be a good chuckle over the years, but damn, i had no idea how bad it would be. granted toes are difficult and such, but the letters didn't match (not amongst the group or amongst the toes). the lines bled (a lot). some of the lines aren't filled in, etc. AND it took him over an hour to do four simple letters on one person. and yeah, they don't have internally threaded jewelry. if you want quality jewelry for a low price (i wouldn't support these guys EVER again) go to bodyartforms.com and study up at bmezine.com —dalex

2007-06-16 00:10:59   I really love this place. I've been there for all of my piercings and my tattoo. Avi does a really great job. He's always really gentle and it always turns out exactly how I want. They're professional and always friendly. Even if you're a walk in, they'll always make time for you or try to accommodate you. Josh did my tattoo and I think I'll go back to him again. Overall, they're just really sweet and always do an impressive job. —Nicole

2007-07-22 17:35:44   My friend and I got tattoos from Josh, and are both very happy with them. I would definitely go more from Josh, and highly recommend him. —MaxMcComb

2007-10-28 17:43:52   I was wondering if anyone knows of any emancipated minors who had any trouble getting any tattoos or piercings done here. California state law states that emancipated minors are allowed to get tattoos and piercings on their own. Several body shops seem do be uneducated about this, most don't even know what an emancipated minor is. I was just curious if anyone had any information about this pertaining to this particular body shop. Thanks. —Austen

2007-10-31 10:14:21   I signed up just because I felt so strongly about this place. I have a lot of experience getting pierced at other places and felt they were very unprofessional and even rude at times. Avi pierced my tragus, but seemed put out the entire time, like my business was an inconvenience to his day. The aftercare sheet was limited but decent. Not only that, but he failed to close the CBR all the way, and about 15 minutes after I got home it fell out (while I was just sitting). I went back to have it tightened later that day and he didn't put a glove on until I asked him to. Basically he just took pliers and squeezed until they were tight enough to fit the ball in, which created a very noticeable dent in the ring and made it difficult to clean properly. Cheap, but I'd much rather pay more for excellent service from someone I trust. —carlaisnt

I am responding to the posting by "carlaisnt" above — I am the owner of Urban Body, and this posting is a blatant lie! This situation NEVER OCCURRED as that person wrote. NEVER would anyone in this shop touch a client without gloves on — Sterilization procedures are of the utmost importance in our shop and that is the way we treat every single procedure that we do here.
If you have something negative to post at least have the decency to write the truth.
Bad Karma...

2007-11-01 23:41:44   i dont know what happened to all those who have gotten such bad results here. i got an account here solely to refute these claims. i just recently got a tattoo here, and not only was it clean and professional, it came out so incredible i will definately be returning just as soon as this heals over. Thanks Chris!
my friend got his ears gauged here and was equally pleased with the results. —roy

2007-11-09 13:24:37   I have had two piercings done here and have bought several pieces of jewelry. Everyone has always been nice and helpful in the shop. I can't say the same happens elsewhere - especially when you are pretty "non-alternative" looking. The piercing job was standard - sterilized, quick, and clean. He did good with the educational/informative bit, eventhough I told him I already knew all that. They have done right by me everytime. —lemurific
