Life can also be quite gay. Sir Carlos Überstraße
Carlos currently has a Shadiness Factor of 4.9. How shady are you?
Former King of Rienda, he is a resident of SoCal but not a huge fan of it. He is absolutely in love with Davis. Carlos enjoys a nice morning or evening bike ride through the town. Currently undergoing a name-change, major-switch, introspective-analysis and de-worming; only time will tell whether these developmental changes will amount to anything.
Carlos apologizes for
LEAD and the Davis Axis of Evil.

The Rienda Monarchy
In the autumn of 2005, Rienda Hall became the seat of a short lived monarchy that lasted for most of the school year. In a daring move to consolidate power and support, Melvin Cabebe crowned his fellow resident Carlos Overstreet the King of Rienda Hall. Although unpopular at first, the majority of his subjects looked to him with ambivalence at worst. Like the Sultans of the late Ottoman Empire, he was never able to completely extend his influence throughout his realm. In the spring of that year, his divine right was called into question but Joseph Bleckman rallied support to defend the crown. The legacy of his reign still remains to be seen but by his final days, he had become weary with his rule.

Howdy, Carlos. We're currently debating the inclusion of Campus Crusade for Christ on the Cults entry. If you could provide any insight as to why you added it, it would be most appreciated. —jw
NICE edit on Northern California. *standing applause* —jw
I think it is nice that you want to add more content to Central California and Northern California but I don't think it is very helpful to say that places are quaint or uninteresting, or that there is nothing to see. I believe that there is beauty everywhere, even if it is hidden by social standards of the moment, and your flippant comments discourage people from finding beauty in unconventional places. Please don't write insulting things, it is not funny. Thanks. —NickSchmalenberger

While it's important to find beauty in a glass of bland, I don't think it's that irresponsible to describe things accurately. —JosephBleckman

Quoted from Steve Ostrowski's page: "You are aware that bias on DavisWiki is considered acceptable. This is a multiple bias site, meaning that everybody contributes from their own bias and all views are presented by aggregation. This is not Wikipedia, and does not have a NPOV policy. —JabberWokky" — I'm presenting things as I percieve them. You may see Owen's Lake as a wonderful recreation spot for hiking, and that's cool, go right ahead an edit it and put in your own say or additional information about it. Me thinks Owen's Lake is an unattractive piece of caked earth. - Carlos

I don't have a problem with subjective descriptions of things, but if you are going to be insulting I don't think you should use the third person. Otherwise it makes the wiki itself sound flippant and mean. I don't think there should be a NPOV policy either because then people get anal about it and it creates flame wars, but in the third person I think it is helpful to at least try to write moderately, plainly, and succinctly. For example, in Northern California, you could have used "town" instead of "large collection of civilization". Furthermore, If I know of some specific nice thing in a town like Mt. Shasta, I could just add it to the page as you suggest, which might be helpful. I really don't think it is at all helpful to make cheapshots at nice towns as you have done. If it is really as boring as you say why mention it at all, if not just to be mean? —NickSchmalenberger
Well, there's Ludy's, which is a short drive or long bike ride away. Not bad for lunch, although I'd prefer a Park Avenue or even a Sonny's. The best BBQ (certainly the most authentic) I've found so far in NorCal is
House of Chicken and Ribs.
Catch and release. Just need a tranquilizer gun, a few volenteers, and some radio-tagging equipment. -ES
2006-07-25 17:10:43 i'm pretty sure that copy is (c) the tribune. seeing as the story has nothing to do with davis or the davis wiki, i don't think Fair Use applies here. you should link to the story rather than including it. if you want people to discuss the story, try UCDLJ. —ArlenAbraham

2007-02-12 02:37:54 No... While it is occuring before and after the names, they are not affiliated with DCDs name read off. Kinda defeats the purpose of just honoring the dead and raising awareness when you throw the anti-war elements in there. DCD or its members may be involved in the 2/15 antiwar protest, but the organizations are not affiliated. —MaxMikalonis
2007-02-12 02:46:46 They will be having their Unity in Peace stuff from 11-12, We will ask them to stand down on active demonstrations and anything offensive that detracts from our message during our 12-1, and then they will most likely resume what hopefully won't be (but could possibly be) rabble-rousing from 1-2. The reason I am an Admin on the event (in case you were wondering) is because I've been trying to work to keep their posters/flyers/boards within some level of reason and respect. Also, to further clairify, our event has been planned out for weeks in advance, w/o prior knowledge of the intention for the 2/15 protest. Because of this, and because of time, we will continue to read the names as normal, for the entire week +1 day. —MaxMikalonis

2007-06-16 20:24:55 Hey, Carlos, keep in mind that you can't just move wiki entries between wikis without giving attribution. See Copyrights for more information. If you are the original author and nobody else has edited, you can move it, but if anybody else has edited it or you aren't the complete author of an entry, the Copyright is assigned to DavisWiki, and has to be properly attributed when you move it. As a result, you might not want to move too many, as it might be taken as an unwanted "invasion". Particularly from Davis Wiki where we have a strong community, we should probably try to avoid being pushy on newer, young wikis that are still growing their own culture and conventions. Regardless, it's a copyright violation unless you follow Creative Commons "By" license (and also be aware that not all wikispot wikis are Creative Commons, so you may be doing a "one-way" move). —JabberWokky
-
So am I in trouble in anyway and should I do anything to the entries I made on Sac Wiki? - Carlos
-
No, no, no "trouble" at all... you just moved it without attribution. Check out Copyrights for the details... basically, by moving it outside of Davis Wiki, you are acting as an outside editor (an editor of Sacramento Wiki), and copying material from Davis Wiki (which is certainly encouraged!). Just as if you were using it in the SacBee or your blog, all you need to do is put an attribution into the entry as described on the Copyrights entry. My apologies for confusing the issue: it is really quite simple! —JabberWokky
-
No. Ignore our discussion :)
I completely disagree that moving entries is a negative thing in any way. If anything it helps out new wikis build up a strong base of content. "Invasion?" I think the biggest problem new wikis face is building up content to get people interested. This is especially helpful to everyone when there's an off-topic page here on Davis Wiki that could easily be moved elsewhere. —PhilipNeustrom
I disagree too... it *should* be okay, but there was some early pushback that I encountered that caused me to back off, including an email. Perhaps my experience is the exception or I just tripped across a jerk. Once burned, now sensitive to the issue. I probably shouldn't conflate the two issues (attribution and 'prime directive'), as they are very different. I'd rather see things move back and forth (remember, I took the side of "less attribution, easier migration"), but in a way that both communities agree with. I honestly don't understand the rationale, but was told that they wanted to make "their own" content. Some wikis even locked down their content for awhile, which I never quite understood, but I (perhaps mistakenly) attributed to the same logic. It may just be a misunderstanding on my part, and I shouldn't have added that side point to the above comment, as it confused the main point about attribution —JabberWokky
I agree the two points are unrelated. I think we ought to just assume that by default folks want their wikis to be edited :) —PhilipNeustrom
2007-07-17 15:46:08 Band pages for groups that performed for maybe three people in their entire existance, apartment pages for people who live together, etc. At one point I opposed these types of pages, but eventually I had a change of heart. There's little harm in pages existing if they aren't hurting anyone, or having the same name as another Davis Entity. It provides an interesting look at various subcultures in Davis, a look that is not being recorded otherwise. To delete them rather than letting them grow hurts the historic record. —JoseBleckman
