craig.jpg Name: Craig Brozinsky

A former Psychology grad student, Craig left Davis for Berkeley in Sept '07, and will try to keep active on the Daviswiki in the future.

He spends most of his wiki time pontificating about food and Davis's Restaurants, where he would like to see better representation for the following items:

He will go out of his way to pay for originality and quality (i.e., New York or SF), but gets PO'd when he pays $25 for a meal that's both inferior and more costly than his own cooking (e.g., every Davis Italian dish). He also finds that meals taste much better when someone else picks up a check. If any of this sounds remotely intriguing, check out his list of one line restaurant reviews. Craig has given many positive and negative reviews since 2005, and feels them all to be fair and constructive. If you disagree with his opinions, he encourages you to talk with him either publicly or on the wiki.

In his spare time, i.e., 1999-2001, Craig created a [WWW]moviesite for people to exchange recommendations for foreign, independent, and traditionally overlooked movies. The site is lively, and open for anyone to join. A good portion of the current recommendations are available in 49er Video or through [WWW]Netflix.

Craig also recommends you take [WWW]this regional dialect survey. It takes about an hour, but will generate many more hours of interesting converstion.

2006-07-30 03:19:09   Hi Craig, nice to have met you at the wiki wacky woo. What's the Coke Experiment? An evaluation of the taste of sodas across town? If so, put Taco Hell on the list of horrible-tasting sodas. —KarlMogel

2006-07-30 11:09:27   Craig - I would have liked to have met you last night. We should have all worn nametags. —JanelleAlvstadMattson

2007-01-15 14:13:39   Do you honestly think I didn't tell them to report it? I even floated a hypothetical by my Workability coordinator. It's her job to be familiar with labor laws, and she told me it was illegal, and they offer protection. The poeple who were getting the short end of the stick were ESL and new to the country. Even after I explained they would be protected they either didn't believe me or choose to just take it. Random note, I think I saw your coca cola mcdonalds tasting experiment... —StevenDaubert

2007-02-21 18:54:03   I'm curious to learn what methodology you used to calculate the revert statistics? The way I keep imagining is very labor intensive, but I suspect that you've come up with a much better way. —JasonAller

2007-02-21 20:23:20   Naw, there are plenty of people who use lynx. I use it every day, and links2 is the primary browser on my Libretto. —JabberWokky

2007-02-22 04:00:25   I was playing with your script and after figuring out the backquote thing, I gave $* to the foreach in order to give arguments to the script. I also put all the files in /tmp/dwrevert after rm -rfing it to clean up after a previous run (after becoming confused about why you and JasonAller each had triple as many edits and reverts as you should). Although I suppose running this script alot of times could abuse the server too. Anyway it was fun, the biggest thing I've done in csh (tcsh for me actually). Thanks for posting it. —NickSchmalenberger

2007-03-01 17:36:26   There is some description of techniques for tracking ip addresses in Recent Changes on DavisWikiGnome. Many of them, including dreid's which I think was the neatest, were broken by the move to sycamore. But they might help you out. —NickSchmalenberger

2007-03-01 17:39:11   My file is 404 now, btw, so I will have to see if I can find it again. My changes were to say usera "has the same ip as" userb instead of "is a clone of" and then to print the ip. —NickSchmalenberger

2007-03-08 15:48:31   Nice edit on the tipping page craig, simple but effective, they should keep the page now. I think your intro rewrite and so on make it more "relative." —JarrettNoble

2007-03-15 13:54:53   I thought about making a comment about it, but I figured I'd just go with what I guessed you'd meant. Had some problems with renting, I take it? —JabberWokky

2007-03-23 05:01:38   Try matzah with raspberry jam and cream cheese. I also always have it with curry. Not quite as sacreligious, but darn tasty. I do miss the growing Jewish-fusion cuisine of South Florida at times. One of these days a good eastern European/Jewish chef will pop up on Food Network and use sour cream the way they currently use olive oil. —JabberWokky

2007-03-27 00:00:33   I was lucky in that I had left a very positive comment, so the guy was extra friendly, but it just made me realize that I have no idea who will notice/remember, and yeah, I liked your edit :) —EdWins

2007-04-20 08:34:00   If you're able, log onto IRC. I'd like to discuss Pita Pit somewhat less publically. —JessicaLuedtke

2007-04-20 09:25:47   part of the "discussion" is at the top of my comments. other than that, it was via the little message you can type when u edit a wiki page —JoAnnaRich

2007-04-22 11:22:57   Craig, you should hit me up via some other form of communication to discuss pita pit. —StevenDaubert

2007-07-07 14:11:52   Thanks for your comments on the SmartSite page — that's very helpful. I agree with you about not spoiling the students with too much info that they should be getting in class (although I tend to provide assignments electronically, but not notes), and it sounds like you are making good use of the other features. You said your lab uses it to share and communicate — have you tried co-writing with it, and if so, did that work out for you? (I'll ask this question on the page itself, so you can respond there). —CovertProfessor

2007-07-08 19:01:22   hey craig, yay for doing the data! could you send me the document? also, could you factor in reverts? thanks! —JessicaRockwell

2007-07-08 19:13:12   awesome. i had started doing something similar to what you calculated. it really does take forever, so i'm totally into you doing it. = ) —JessicaRockwell

2007-09-06 09:48:37   [WWW]Thank you! That cracked me up. Can I join please? This sounds like something I could get into! My girlfriend and I went to New Canton on a Thursday morning. We liked most all the dishes, it was pretty good. The sole exception was some sort of sweet pork dumpling. The pork filling was tasty on its own, but the dumpling was quite gooey and too sweet to be of our liking. There's a small little bar/pizza place in Midtown Sac that I thought you might like. Uncle Vito's Slice of NY. It's connected to Prontos, which is fast food Italian. They sell it by the slice (usually with a beer). Large greasy slices of pretty good pizza. —EdWins

2007-09-07 08:38:53   Good luck in Berkeley! —CovertProfessor

2007-10-06 06:33:35   Just saw your comment on the Shanghai Town page, thanks! Although it's 2 yrs old, I'm excited to try out your suggestions! I can't believe I haven't tried this Chinese restaurant before (Hometown is my favorite so far). —AmyLee

2007-10-07 12:28:29   I'm planning on going for lunch next week to try out as many dim sum dishes as possible. haha I'm excited! Yeah when I was there last night there was a group of people that really seemed to know what they were ordering, ironically a couple guys at another table asked us what the Lion's Head dish was and ended up ordering it also. Thanks again :) —AmyLee

2007-10-25 10:36:23   I agree about the Buffalo Wings! Davis is sorely lacking! —colte94

2008-01-23 02:59:08   I didn't mean for you to remove it, I was just curious as to the logic. It makes perfect sense. I popped the sentence back in and prepended your explanation. —JabberWokky

2008-07-11 15:18:04   Jason did. Technically, Philip did first. Although, as has been pointed out, there's a bug in statistics wherein we all likely hit 10,000 long before it showed that tally in User Statistics (although I haven't noticed it lately, you could occasionally watch the stats get smaller after editing). —JabberWokky

2008-07-11 15:20:00   (And of course, there are stats for Wiki Spot as well... some people edit wikispotother wikis as well. The 10k "odometer roll over" was for Davis Wiki). —JabberWokky

2008-08-23 19:01:41   Hi Craig, I was interested in your wanting better representation for Buffalo wings. The first time I tried them was at a bar in Buffalo, NY, in 1974. They were really good, but not what I have been served out here. The chicken wings were barbecued, in a typical, slightly sweet, not spicy barbecue sauce. The heat came from the dip, which was a very chunky, true bleu cheese mixed with lots of horseradish. It was an awesome treat. —christinecipperly
