Political Statements, Propositions, Etc.:

These things are not actions directed towards a need to be senator, they are merely things relating to the student community, I plan to take actions in these matters on my own, regardless of the ASUCD senate, the results of these actions will benefit me, the student community, or the ASUCD given the action, and I would like to formally note that one does not need to be a senator, commissioner, or have any such title to invoke change, hence I say that all who wish for change to go out and try to change things. In all honesty regarding the senate, I wish to run to take more action and more part in the ASUCD to hopefully get the ASUCD involved more in the students, create less partisan politics, and to insure that transfer students such as myself are represented more in the ASUCD where they usually take little part.

Regarding the need of testing supplies:

I was just looking over the issues brought fourth by the ACT political slate, and I agree on the issue regarding the need for testing supplies before eight in the morning, in fact I am in such agreement, that I have an actual solution to propose. Firstly, the problem is precisely that at certain hours during the day, and at certain places on campus, it may be difficult or near impossible to acquire needed supplies before a test, ergo seven-thirty in the morning, or to study in general, perhaps at midnight. Now, rather than opening the Student Store earlier, I will investigate the possibility that vending machines containing basic supplies (these do exist, they were at my community college) be installed at the base floors of a few major buildings on campus, their stock of course varied in order to contain the optimum selection for the students, this way allowing a unfortunate freshman to purchase a bluebook before an early morning midterm.

Regarding student involvement in the ASUCD:

In randomly meeting people across the campus from different areas of the campus community, I have found that most people simply do not care much about the ASUCD or the student government in general. This is not because they are not hearing enough of student government, as many people read the Aggie and enjoy the articles about the latest political debacle, it is more that they have little reason to be concerned with such a black box of an institution. It is a fact that the ASUCD is a part of student life, by the mere existence of many useful programs such as the Book Exchange, Unitrans, and the Coffee house, but by the same token with the freshman and transfer population, it is merely taken for granted that these services are provided, ASUCD established them, but that was an issue and an action of the past ASUCD. Currently, from what I have seen, the senate mainly deals with seemingly esoteric matters involving court cases and bills which are meant to clean up the legislation, bylaws, and constitution so the government operates correctly, albeit this is indeed an important task, it is rather removed from the scope of student life. There has been much talk of a need for getting students involved into the ASUCD more, and this has been measured by the increasing voter turn out, however the real issue is finding ways that the ASUCD should be involved in the student's life to make it better and easier for the students, especially the freshman and oft neglected transfer students, that should be the goal of the student government, and when that goal is being met the student's will no longer be in such a state of apathy, but they will care about their student government and the campus community with greater vigor.

Regarding Late Senators, etc.:

I would like to make a brief note that my letter to the editor regarding late senators was published in the Aggie a while ago, I do fully support the fact that senators are people and have other duties aside senate as it is hardly the most important thing in someone's life, well that should be the case, hence I support people being late to the long senate meetings and such, provided they are not outrightly neglectful of their duties, ergo missing an important set of meetings, I support reason and logic I suppose.

Regarding UCSA and Regents

This is a caveat not a proposition. I would like to have it noted that currently Davis, and the ASUCD, in their leaving of the UCSA, lost the line of communication to the regents known as a white liner. If I understand correctly, this means that effectively Davis is unable to directly and personally communicate with the controlling body outside the meetings and times which it designates, which will become an issue in the future if we ever have a pressing need to be represented to the Regents.
