Although his life is devoid of that characteristic before his junior year in high school, he has grown so much towards supporting a more sustainable world that he cannot believe he ever thought otherwise. He's proud that he learned about the environment in a high school A.P. class, which he scored a 5 on (the highest). That class stimulated much activism on Derek's part. He helped start his high school's first ever recycling program in its long history (called Big Blue). Consider that his high school Loyola was founded in 1865 and is the oldest high school in Los Angeles.
-
- Before Derek learned that the world was going to shit environmentally, he already knew that the world was and is going to shit socially, politically, physically, and in many other humanly ways. He is forever ashamed he lives in the country that has been killing people left and right for what? Some say oil, some say terrorism, some say greed, Derek says bull shit. War should not happen. Period. Derek enjoys peace rallies like the one in Hollywood last summer where thousands of people marched down the famous streets saying "F U to Bush" and "Bombing for Peace is like F-ing for Virginity."
-
- [[Thumbnail(projectcompost1.jpg, right, "Project Compost")]] Derek started attending ["UC Davis" U.C. I started the summer doing one pool length at a time. I have endurance when I run, but I can't yet say that about swimming. It takes good rhythm and pace to stay comfortable in the water.
