Hello, I'm Efrem. I'm a UCD applied mathematics PhD student. I've been in Davis since Fall 2006. You may have seen me around town walking around or running barefoot, or inline skating, or volunteering at Bike Forth. During my time in Davis I've come to love this town. I've been on long bike rides on country roads and met some cool people. I've gone swimming in Putah Creek. I've run a lot of miles in Davis and ran my first three marathons while living here. Sometimes I run with GVH.
I lived in a Chaparral apartment for the first two years I lived in Davis and then moved to a house in Old East Davis. Now I have five bikes and a garden irrigated with shower water! Currently I'm writing my dissertation.
My research area is Krylov subspace methods for model order reduction.
This is a state space model. It has input, output, and some internal state x(t):
We don't care too much about x(t) as long as we have a system that outputs y(t) when given u(t). So we reduce the dimension of x(t) using model reduction. We want a simpler, faster model that acts pretty much the same as the original one, for the inputs we expect to give it. That's the basic idea.

2011-10-30 19:12:30 This is the first time I've been aware of bicycle access on a freeway. Are pedestrians also allowed on I-5 over the Sacramento River? Are there any other bicycle accesses on freeways? —BruceHansen

I'm not sure about other freeways, or if pedestrians are allowed. I did notify google maps about that part of I-5 being open to cyclists. They researched it and got back to me, saying it's correct and they'll be modifying the map. I'm not sure if that's been done yet. - Efrem
