I've been on the receiving end of this several times as I like to write and have a definite interest in history of a few things. Namely videogames and music. It gets old when you try to write up a nice description, that yeah sometimes turns into a treatise, for a page that was formerly just a list of items. I couldn't care less what wikipedia has in it. Just because a book exists in the Library of Congress doesn't mean it doesn't belong in your local library. If I wanted to find that information on wikipedia I'd go there. If I want to embellish a page with facts (that's the key, don't embellish with bullshit) why shouldn't I? Lists are boring (and this wiki is loaded with LOTS of lists). Even worse is when you are accused of yanking stuff from wikipedia.
-
- I also see lots of "Why are you posting stuff that isn't about Davis?" or "That's in Sacramento, not Davis! It doesn't belong here!". Well if you think you can get everything you need in Davis good luck. Here's a list of things to find in town: a pair of underwear, a decent bbq sandwich, a large selection of camping supplies. What? You can't find those things in Davis? I *wonder* where you could find them? Hmm... It might be a good idea to make a page about this as it might be useful to folks that live in Davis. Some pages really should be here because there simply aren't choices for folks that live here that need things that don't exist in town.
-
- Wiki's grow beyond their original programming. I don't mean they become sentient of course[[footnote(i'm working on this one --["PhilipNeustrom" philip])]], I mean that as you add more people to a wiki there are more ideas and opinions expressed. In this way I don't see how folks can claim a topic can be a "Non-Davis" topic as it is assumed the person posting it is a resident of the Davis community. They may have a unique perspective on the topic. They might want to find like-minded others. They might live in the community and travel a lot and figure others might benefit from their knowledge of the outer areas. They might simply like to write.
-
- Attacking a person or their ideas (unless it truly is a silly one like screendoors on a submarine) is counterproductive. It can be seen as mean-spirited and makes a community resource seem more like an insiders clique.
-
- Anyway, it's all really tiring (for lack of a better word) and I see it quite a bit. Folks shouldn't have to argue the merits of information if the information is factual, interesting and useful.
-
- ==Finally...==
- I really like ["Pizza"] and finding a good ["New York Style Pizza"] is about as easy as cracking a safe. Californian's have a funny idea of what pizza is. (California Pizza Kitchen? WTF?!)BR
-
- Hell, I'd take a good ["Chicago Style Pizza"] if I could find it. ["Pizza Guys"] are passable for cheap stuff, but good pizza they aren't. ["Round Table Pizza" Round Table] makes do but might as well be made of solid gold due to the price...
-
- If you don't have a clue about what I mean about pizza you have likely never had a good New York pizza. They are good if you are hungry in a mall and aren't in the mood for a burger. NY style isn't just about the thickness of the crust (though NY style tends to be thin, unlike Chicago style which is much thicker) it also has to do with the ingredients in the dough and sauce. Honestly I couldn't tell you the specifics but I know it when i see and taste it. Dominoes or Pizza Hut a while back had a NY style promo that was a good approximation for a chain. It was about the best I've found in CA, but wasn't nearly as good as what I used to get locally. --["HollywoOd"]------
- 2005-02-18 07:01:20 nbsp Should you venture near downtown Sacramento, there's a place called New York Pizza and Plus at West El Camino and I-5. Californians have a funny idea of what pizza is. (California Pizza Kitchen? WTF?!)BR

+ * I am owner and editor-in-chief of monkeysvsrobots.com, a humor site (that is in need of a major and much needed facelift).
+
+ ==Grrr...==
+ Am I the only one that gets tired of reading comments like "You could find that in wikipedia, why post it here"? I've been on the receiving end of this several times as I like to write and have a definite interest in history of a few things. Namely videogames and music. It gets old when you try to write up a nice description, that yeah sometimes turns into a treatise, for a page that was formerly just a list of items. I couldn't care less what wikipedia has in it. The damned thing could be the library of Alexendria for all I care. If I wanted to find that information on wikipedia I'd go there. If I want to embellish a page with facts (that's the key, don't embellish with bullshit) why shouldn't I? Lists are boring. Even worse is when you are accused of yanking stuff from wikipedia.
+
+ I also see lots of "Why are you posting stuff that isn't about Davis?" or "That's in Sacramento, not Davis!
+
+ Anyway, it's really tiring and I see it quite a bit. Folks shouldn't have to argue the merits of information if the information is factual and useful.
+
+ ==Finally...==
+ I really like ["Pizza"] and finding a good ["New York Style Pizza"] is about as easy as cracking a safe.
