Outstanding food for the best price and value in all of Davis for Mexican Food. If you are a meat eater, try their Pastor - its seasoned pork and is just about the tastiest thing you'll ever experience. I order dishes with pastor wherever I go to see if I can find a place that out-does Guadalajara pastor, but so far I haven't had better anywhere. I recommend the quesadilla suiza with pastor or chicken, the regular nachos with pastor (even a regular nachos order comes with guacamole and sour cream) or, if you are with friends, the super giant burrito with the meat of your choosing. Free chips and salsa come with any order, so if you only got two bucks, buy a taco for 1.59 and fill up on chips. On Cinco De Mayo they have dollar tacos and dollar mini (7oz) coronas. I love this place.
-
- '''Pizza''': ["Woodstocks Pizza"] - This place gets a lot of backlash for being the most popular pizza place in town, but in my experience it's the best. I enjoy the way the crust rolls over the sauce at the end of the pizza - this annoys some people who apparently think crust is the Antichrist and would prefer their pizzas to made of solid cheese. Personally, I think its fantastic. If crust is too dry for you, get a side of ranch or marinara sauce - they usually give these to you for free if you order a whole pizza and they'll only cost you 50 cents otherwise. They give you the option of wheat crust which, while by no means making the pizza healthy, does make it a little more health-conscious and actually tastier, in my opinion. They don't have slices available all day long, unfortunately, but they always have them for lunch and late night. They also have a very good beer selection and while they don't serve pitchers, they do serve liters for a pretty decent price compared to cost of beer at bars in the same area. I highly recommend the garlic bird and the bbq bird pizza on wheat crust. The pesto primmavera is also very good as long as you sub out the broccoli for a more natural pizza topping like mushrooms.
-
- '''''Music:'''''
-
- ["Dimple records"] - I am biased, I worked at Dimple for 10 months and thus have a personal connection to it, but I still say its the best place to go for music in Davis hands effing down. They have a giant selection of CDs both new and used and they are tied into the 5 other Dimple stores in the greater Sacramento area and can have anything that those stores have transferred to the Davis store for you for free. You can't beat that, even at big box stores like best buy and walmart. They have new releases on sale, usually price matched with Target so there is no need to leave Davis and drive someplace else to get the best deal on a new CD. They have listening stations, can put items on hold, have items special ordered - its just a really convenient, no hassle store. They do have a no cash return policy, so you should only buy something you know you want or be happy with store credit. They are an independent business just like Armadillo across the street - this is hard for a lot of people to grasp, I am guessing because it occupies the space that Tower Records used to occupy, but it is still undeniably true. Armadillo folk expressed a lot of silent and not so silent grumbling about the store when it opened - and besides the obvious threat of competition I am not sure why. When Tower left, Armadillo had a chance to step up and assert itself as the true music store for the Davis community. Instead it decided to remain a grumpy little store with employees that can often be helpful but can also be smug and elitist. I don't dislike Armadillo, I think its a very quaint place and I enjoyed buying CDs there before Dimple, but I don't see why anyone would think they should be the only game in town with a very small store and a customer service style of looking tired and unapproachable. Anyways, Dimple beats Armadillo six times a week and twice on Sunday for prices, service, and selection. Go here.
-

+ I work at 49er Video. We have late fees. He's probably the least read english major of all time, but he has read the entirety of James Joyce's Ulysses and even understood select portions of it. And he's tall.
