An engineer, a hippie, a research monkey, and a bird breeder climbed through a tunnel in search of eternal life... but got lost and ended up in Marie instead of John Malkovich. After taking over 250 units in engineering, anthro/linguistics, philosophy, etc. at UCD without a single summer off, she now spends her free time trying to relax, doing photography, and getting ready to apply for grad school. Her photography can be seen above and on flickr. Nerdier projects involve wikis, a soldering iron, and plans for world domination, although not necessarily all at the same time or as part of the same projects. She has many passions and only one measly little life. She wears sunscreen.
Having spent far too much time in hospitals and clinics full of sick and dying people even as a kid, Marie tries not to take life or religion too seriously. She is fond of Buddhism but is also a Discordian Pope and Saint for reasons shrouded in mystery and silliness. She has been seen hanging out with dancers, Democrats, Greens, Libertarians, Republicans, the Apathetic, Christians, Buddhists, Catholics, Jews, Discordians, Agnostics, Atheists, unitarian universalists, pagans, punks, goths, gays, bisexuals, straights, monogamists, polyamorists, engineers, hippies, philosophers, mathematicians, biologists, and various combinations of the above and then some, not that she remembers what everyone is, not that it really matters when looking for good friends. Her Jewdar works about as well as her Gaydar, which is to say not really at all unless it's so obvious almost everyone else already knows.
Marie enjoys a good game of Settlers of Catan [with modified rules to spice things up]. She will not hurt you if you touch her dice (proof she's not a hardcore gamer) but good luck reading the D∞. She usually plays Settlers with her husband Users/ChadVanSchoelandt and their old apartmentmate Twiggie.

I wanted to take an interesting sounding graduate class as a freshman but figured I'd probably fail it. It takes lots of prep, dedication, multitasking, and sleepless nights. You have to be willing to read EVERYTHING that is assigned ahead of time (and then some) because you're being graded alongside people with up to 4 years of coursework ahead of you. They've seen it all before; you haven't so you need time to let it all soak in. The goal is to be so far ahead that lecture is like review. That's not always feasible, but having insane goals means you get the most out of your time in college. You learn to do things like eat with one hand while writing code with the other. You schedule everything and are never without something to do or read. There is no end to your to-do list. You schedule your social life and treasure the times you unexpectedly bump into friends. If you want to be this crazy, just talk to your profs. Oh, and pick up a small planner. You'll need it.
