Raised behind the [WWW]Orange Curtain, I've been a Davis resident since August 1994, and now live on D Street in Old North Davis with the wonderful Kara Ueda.

I received a J.D. from King Hall in 2000 and a B.A. in Political Science-Public Service from UC Davis in 1997. For those that were around, I walked in 1996, and took a class and finally filled out my paperwork for my degree in 1997, about five minutes before the 1L barbecue at King Hall. If you've been around Davis long enough, you might remember my ill-fated and illogical campaign for city council as a student in 1996. Lamar, I feel for you. (My offer still stands...if you're an undergrad and run, I'll give you $100.)

I'm now the President/CEO of the [WWW]Community College League of California, which is the nonprofit association representing California's 72 community college districts. I have a wonderful staff that does great work that makes me look good. I co-authored Proposition 92, the Community College Initiative on the February 2008 ballot, which died amidst budgetary angst.

I can be found almost daily (or, more likely, each evening) at the Davis Food Co-op, where I supplement the wonderful produce I get from [WWW]Farm Fresh to You/Capay Fruits and Vegetables, a fantastic CSA. If you want to catch me in the morning, you'll probably be lucky between 5:30 and 6:30 at the Davis Athletic Club, which I visit as I take a break from writing [WWW]The Roundup, a daily political newsletter with 5,500 subscribers.

I've also recently started a plot at the Davis Community Garden. Currently, I have tomatoes, peppers, corn, sunflowers, beans and basil planted. Around August I'll probably have far more than I can use, so let me know if you'd like some.

My favorite Davis restaurants include Tucos Wine Market and Cafe, Mustard Seed, Pho Bac Hoa Viet, Silver Dragon, Thai Bistro and Cafe Bernardo. Although, Mustard Seed frustrates me (read comments on that page), and Bernardo's silly "starch for a starch" substitution policy drives me bonkers.

I've guess I've become a townie, but I couldn't have found a better place.

2008-06-16 13:31:33   Wow, I must have cast a summon Scott spell. It's been so long since you edited that I forgot that you're here — remind me to do a search before writing new articles. Oh well, have a nice day. —BrentLaabs

2008-06-16 17:25:20   Howdy... the Scott Lay entry is about you, and this entry is by you. For instance, there is an entry about David Greenwald because he is a notable person within Davis. He also has an editor account on the wiki, so there is also an entry under his account. Rob Roy and Users/RobRoy are two more examples. The personal entries are generally by the person and contain notes to that person, while the public entries are about the person and written by the editorial community as a whole (similar to how some business owners have entries, but the entry about the business is written by the community). Thus it isn't a duplicate and I restored it. Some people don't edit their public entries (seeing it as a conflict of interest), and others add or update information. It's up to you. —Evan 'JabberWokky' Edwards

2008-06-16 17:51:00   Hello, Mr. Lay! You have excellent taste in food, I see! Just curious: Why did you delete your name off the King Hall alumni list? You are certainly an accomplished and notable King Hall graduate. . . —CurlyGirl26

2008-06-16 18:13:48   How humble and modest of you. Actually, I understand where you're coming from. I have classmates who wrap up their whole identity with their status as a law student. And they haven't even graduated yet. And there is no room for any other aspect of their lives. It's such a blow-hardy thing to do.

But with you, it's different. —CurlyGirl26

2008-06-16 18:59:03   Ya know, its really hard working in student government history, because no one ever writes anything down, and everyone is gone within a few years. I like you, hope to be famous one day (though it's likely infamous for me). —BrentLaabs

2008-09-14 22:40:16   nooo, thank YOU, Scott! i loved being able to make food for you and your family. and i also love seeing you and kara at market. thanks for your continued support. it really does mean a lot. —PopsicleGirl
