Lee''' is a political science and communication student at UC Davis. He is an active member of the campus and city of Davis community--having held many positions and worked on many projects during his time at Davis. Steven D. Lee was born in Seattle, Washington. He grew up in San Jose, California and graduated from Lynbrook High School in 2006. You can contact him at stevendlee@gmail.com.
-
- =First Year (2006-2007)=
- Lee moved to the City of Davis on September 23, 2006, just one day prior to his eighteenth birthday. He lived in Emerson Hall 322B, which by virtue of the ["Cuarto" Cuarto Residence Hall's] location inside of city limits, made him a Davis resident and an eligible voter in the city.
-
- ==ASUCD==
- Lee immediately sought to get involved on campus and in particular ASUCD. Lee's first ASUCD position was as ["ASUCD Legislative Clerk" Legislative Clerk] in the ["ASUCD Vice President" Office of Vice President] ["Genna Carnes"]. Later, on October 19 was appointed by then-Chairman ["Michael Lay"] and confirmed by the ASUCD Senate as a voting commissioner on the ["External Affairs Commission"] (EAC)--alongside ["Gregory J. S. Dizon"], who would later go on to succeed Lee as the commission's chairman. Following then-EAC Vice-Chair Tiffany Setter's appointment and confirmation to the ["ASUCD Court"] at the January 25th Senate meeting, his commission colleagues elected him as Vice Chairman on January 30th. Upon then-Chairman Michael Lay's seating as an ASUCD Senator on March 8th, in his role as Vice-Chairman became Acting EAC Chairman. On March 29th, Lee was finally appointed and confirmed as EAC Chairman by the ASUCD Senate to finish Lay's unexpired term.[[Image(mklay.jpg, thumbnail, "then-Chairman Lay appointed Lee to his first Senate confirmed position")]][[Image(carnes.jpg, thumbnail, "then-Vice President Carnes gave Lee his first ASUCD job as her Legislative Clerk")]][[Image(eac.gif, thumbnail, "EAC during Lee's first term as Chairman")]]
-
- ==City of Davis==
- At the [http://cityofdavis.org/meetings/council/01-16-07.pdf January 16th City Council meeting], Lee was unsuccessful in his first bid for membership on a city commission--the ["Social Services Commission"]--garnering only the vote of ["Lamar Heystek" Councilmember Heystek].
- On [http://cityofdavis.org/meetings/council/07-24-07.pdf July 17th], Lee in his second bid was finally successful in gaining membership on a city commission--the ["Human Relations Commission"]. By a City Council vote of 3-2 (Heystek, Greenwald and Souza voting), Lee was appointed to a regular 4 year term ending in 2010 over then-Commission Alternate Thomas Hagler (Saylor and Asmundson voting). Lee is currently the only student serving in a city commissioner position not specifically designated for a student. Lee joins the ranks of Lamar Heystek and ["Avi Singh"] who also served as commissioners while students at UC Davis.
-
- ==Joint ASUCD-City of Davis-UC Davis Projects==
- At the April 12th joint ASUCD Senate-City Council meeting, Councilmember Heystek recommended that Lee serve as ASUCD's representative to work on the Davis Neighbors' Night Out Event--originally started by ASUCD President Caliph Assagai. Working with then-IFC Representative ["Chad Roberts"], the two were co-chairs of student outreach for the event.
-
- While taking classes during the summer subsequent to his first year, Lee first devised the concept that later became the Principles of One Community. Among those who Lee initially discussed the concept with were: ["ASUCD Controller"] ["Paul Harms"], AAC Chair Christine Pham, Councilmember Lamar Heystek, Director of Local Government Relations Gary Sandy and Executive Vice Chancellor for Campus-Community Relations Rahim Reed.
- [[Image(dnno.JPG,200, thumbnail, "Davis Neighbors Night Out")]]
-
- ==Dorm Life==
- While living in Emerson Hall in the Cuarto Residence Hall Complex, Lee was very involved with dorm life. During fall and winter quarter he served as President of the ["Cuarto Leadership Council"], which plans events for the Cuarto area. During his term he organized a very successful "How to Get Involved on Campus" informative event and a winter quarter Senate candidate forum in the Oxford Dinning Common. During winter quarter, Lee along with the Cuarto Leadership Council worked with the Tercero and Segundo Leadership Councils to plan that year's annual winter semi-formal. During his year in the dorms, Lee also served on the ["Residence Hall Advisory Board"]. Lee was responsible for bringing chocolate soy milk to the dinning commons upon the recommendations of one of his friends. Due to his concurrent membership on the Human Relations Commission, the City Council had to pass an exception (consent calendar item) to an ordinance restricting membership on multiple commissions at any one time. Lee currently is the only person serving on multiple city commissions. The first meeting of the Executive Task Force took place on November 1st at ["Mrak Hall"] (location of the UCD Administration). The second meeting took place on November 30th at the ["Memorial Union"] ["Garrison Room"]--which is commonly used for External Affairs Commission and other ASUCD meetings. The third meeting took place on January 10th and was held in the ["City Hall"] Conference Room. The first meeting of the Executive Task Force took place on November 1st at Mrak Hall (location of the UCD Administration). The second meeting took place on November 30th at the Memorial Union Garrison Room--which is commonly used for External Affairs Commission and other ASUCD meetings. Steve Ostrowski doesn't quite see them in the same way as the rest of the wiki community, and he is rather obsessed with trying to control his. In short, it is a profile about a public figure written by the wiki community rather than the personal profile written by a wiki user. Like other wiki entries, the subject has to have relevance to Davis, so the person profiled has to be a major figure within the Davis community (current and past City Council members, current and past Chancellors, etc). ASUCD senators are included, which seems to be what the wiki editorial community has deemed the lowest level of importance to warrant an entry. Of course, it doesn't have to be political...
