2011-08-19 14:40:58   [WWW]A recent edit you made disagrees with what I've been told by many people. Namely, that cross dressing is something people do, but it doesn't speak to who they are. Transgender and transexuality speak more to identity. Could you clarify? —WilliamLewis

2011-08-19 15:27:12   Transgender is really an umbrella term that means basically anything that messes with gender norms. This can include crossdressing, drag, androgyny, transsexuality, and a lot more. I was trying to point out that transsexuality is about feeling like you're a member of the opposite gender you were assigned at birth, and thus is not necessarily coincident with crossdressing. Crossdressing can be motivated by different things, but just because someone crossdresses doesn't mean they're transsexual. —TheDrDonna

2011-08-19 15:47:42   Actually, most of my transgender friends who feel they were born in the wrong body would NOT identify as transsexual, as that is a highly medicalized (and stigmatized) term. —MeggoWaffle

2011-08-19 15:52:47   I haven't noticed any particular stigma associated with it thus far. Of course, most of my friends just use "trans", but I suppose there could be other groups that I'm not in contact with who have strong preferences. It's kind of hard to come up with terms that can be used across the board, though, since trans folk have been subject to a lot of prejudice in the past and everyone seems to have their own opinion regarding what's acceptable. I guess I'm pretty easygoing about the whole thing. —TheDrDonna

2011-08-19 15:55:20   Seems to me it's probably easier to say what you mean — that is, if one is talking about cross-dressing, say "cross-dressing," and not worry about whether there is some umbrella term like "transgender" under which it falls. I can see where calling someone who cross-dresses "transgender" could be misleading. —CovertProfessor

2011-08-19 15:57:21   That's true. I really made that original edit with the intent of differentiating between crossdressing, and being trans, because they're not necessarily the same thing and I didn't feel like that was being represented in the article. —TheDrDonna

2011-08-19 16:04:40   Ok, I just took out the part about "transgender," leaving your original intent intact — how's that? —CovertProfessor

2011-08-19 16:06:46   Looks good, thanks! I guess if someone objects to the word "transsexual" they can change it later. —TheDrDonna

2011-08-19 16:10:33   Yep — that's the beauty of the wiki! :-) —CovertProfessor

2011-09-22 14:29:10   Well are you familiar at all with the libertarian party? Because the beliefs are going to line up more or less on those issues. Basically it goes: government gtfo and people should have the right to live their own lives in whatever manner they choose so long as they do not forcibly interfere in the rights of others to live in whatever manner *they* choose. —OliviaY

2011-09-22 14:32:27   Though keep in mind that while most people in the L and (l) camps will agree on unions (generally regarded as bad **Okay WILLIAM I'LL CLARIFY: government protected unions bad. Voluntary unions, good. Voluntarism is the key. Happy now?) and lgbt rights (generally a positive stance, where government shouldn't be involved in marriage at all, issue non-discriminatory blanket civil unions and "marriage" should be left to each faith to decide), there is still a lot of divide about the death penalty and abortion. Mostly capital punishment is bad, the state shouldn't have that power and on abortion...it varies.

As for GMOs I don't think they have a stance other than business can do it if they want, consumers can buy it if they want. —OliviaY

2011-09-22 14:36:36   healthcare reform = government GTFO [WWW]http://www.campaignforliberty.com/article.php?view=713OliviaY

2011-09-24 14:59:43   Well no, it's because that group is more of an offshoot focused specifically on things Ron Paul was trying to get done in congress like auditing the federal reserve. The other stances are not things they really care about since it's a group not a political party. The stuff I provided you with is just a general "here is where the people in this group stand" on issues you were curious about. —OliviaY

2012-04-04 11:24:07   As in Donna Noble? —CovertProfessor

Spoiler (highlight to view): * Ah, just Donna then? I always assumed it referred to that synthesis of the Doctor and Donna from The Stolen Earth and Journey's End. The one that led to her very tragic end as a companion. ⁓ʝ⍵
Haha well it is supposed to be the amalgam. I was sad, too because Donna is definitely my favorite companion. Full disclosure, though: I haven't watched any of the pre-9th Doctors. —TheDrDonna
If you like companions with attitude, there's a wealth of them. Leela and Romana II (she's a Time Lady, so I'm referring to the second regeneration) are two notable ones. As a character, I think Rory might be my favorite. -jw
