Tom Garberson has lived in Davis since 2002, getting a degree in Sociology (it was a BA, but Soc is all about the BS) and a J.D. from King Hall. He met his wife, Bekka, through Integrated Studies in 2004, and they got married in 2009. They have an obnoxiously cute cat named Robin.
Law Practice
Tom got his start in the criminal defense/appeals field, but has since moved primarily over to civil law. He now practices at a small AV-rated firm in Sacramento which was recently featured as one of the San Francisco area's best firms in the Chronicle. The firm's primary focus is on medical-related defense work (medical malpractice, professional licensing, elder abuse/neglect, etc.). Tom and one of the partners at his firm also handle plaintiffs' tort cases (personal injury, defamation, and so forth), and the occasional employment or civil rights matter. He's also an avid student of free speech law and is always happy to talk shop - either taking on anti-
SLAPP issues or dealing with defamation. If you think you've got a case, feel free to shoot him an e-mail (see above). If he can't help you, he might be able to refer you to someone who can. Or you could always check out the legal services page.

Things to Work On
Food Picks
| Wings | Sudwerk or Froggy's. |
| Pizza | Lamppost Pizza generally, and the BBQ Bird at Woodstock's is amazing. |
| Chinese | Shanghai Town - new favorite! Hunan and The Dumpling House are also great. |
| Mexican |
Taqueria Davis is by far my favorite. Dos Coyotes is a quick, easy, and fairly cheap alternative. |
| Sushi | Zen Toro for pure quality; Sushi Unlimited for a good blend of quality and value. Skip the buffets. |
| Thai | Thai Canteen has the best curries. Sophia's has amazing fish dishes. |
| Grocery | Nugget. No contest. Westlake Market is also cool, though. |
| Produce | Yolo Fruit Stand and Pedrick Produce are a toss-up. Farmer's Market is overpriced and Ikedas just can't compare. |
| Drinks | The Davis Beer Shoppe! University of Beer,The Grad, and Paesanos are good too. |
| Frozen Yogurt | Yolo Berry is hard to beat, although Cultive is pretty darned good. |

2012-03-21 11:19:51 Sritern, I'm leaving this notice for you here since I know you'll see it. You need to cease the harassment and accusations. You should be aware that I called and left a message on the number for Boardwalk Apartments - since I have no other means of contacting you - to try to put a stop to this. I was extremely tolerant the first time around when Michael made his accusations, and when you followed up by doing the same. I am through being tolerant.
If you continue with this course of conduct I am prepared to take legal action. Your conduct constitutes libel under sections 45 and 45(a) of the Civil Code and is grounds for an injunction under section 527.6 of the Code of Civil Procedure. Neither of us wants the hassle of legal action, and the consequences for you would not be pleasant. It's time for you to stop. —TomGarberson
2012-03-22 15:39:26 You seem to have an admirer! Just so you know, that sritern person is posting pictures and information about you on the sacwiki. I told Jabberwocky in hopes that something can be done. —LoriOrf
2012-03-22 15:54:05 did you lose a major legal battle or piss off a client? What's that persons deal? —ndah100
2012-03-22 16:20:49 Tom—sorry you are having to go through this....sucks. —Users/PeterBoulay
2012-03-22 18:13:01 Whoa dude. I hope it gets resolved quickly. That's a lot of stress to go through. —jsbmeb
2012-03-22 20:27:12 Can't help but point out... "Comments? Questions? Legal threats? Let me know!" heh. —EdWins
2012-03-22 21:49:34 sorry for the troubles you are going through. i've noticed that you dont have a 'frozen yogurt' category under your food picks, personally i'd try Cultive or YoloBerry, both great places. hope all is well w/ you!
2012-03-23 13:50:42 Good idea to give the historical context of the "media links" issue — that clarifies the topic better than my comment. —CovertProfessor
2012-03-24 09:16:05 Not sure exactly how Davis wiki works yet, but this is just my response to the comment you left on my page (?). I was on my iPhone when I posted that comment, and in Roseville at the time. Which is the exact reason why I posted that comment about the shop in Roseville with better deals then the one here in Davis. I thought that's what the comment section was for..did I do something wrong? —MoeHirani
2012-03-24 09:19:57 Oh and if I didn't make it clear enough by joining the "Davis wiki" page, I'm a freshman at Davis who lived in Roseville before coming here. That would explain me being in Roseville over the weekend. Like everyone else, I visit home when I can. —MoeHirani
2012-03-30 11:30:28 Yes, I Am Everywhere. —CovertProfessor
2012-04-03 14:52:02 Okay thats understandable. For the record though, I'm no competitor, just trying to save my classmates some money. Ill probably repost my review when I get some time. And if some sort of proof is needed, you can look up my IP and see I'm posting this from Davis. —MoeHirani

2012-05-05 09:51:31 YES! Thank you! I had found that page before but I didn't know what it was called and couldn't find it again. Now I know, and knowing is half the battle! —LoriOrf
2012-05-05 09:58:23 I am also a fan of the sockpuppet and its goofy charm. In this case, however, 2/3 of the comments the user made were negative, and 1/3 was positive, so sockpuppet didn't seem as appropriate as it would if all were positive. —LoriOrf
2012-05-29 22:25:08 I was going over my page and remember we talked a long time ago about Hellgate: London. Well the server is back up, and the multiplayer mode is now free to play BUT it's hosted in Korea (high latency). I think they are also planning on releasing new content for the game again :D —MasonMurray
2012-06-04 21:42:50 Tom, with your DUE respect i want that ACCUSATION stampped on my business page be remove within 48 hours otherwise i will be mad.i am not saying that you posted it there but as a wiki official you have every right to terminate it. thanks. —andrewnnodim

2012-06-08 23:27:02 Hey, did you ever get your tap up and running? —JabberWokky
2012-06-29 00:46:03 Hey, my GF wants to build a tarp structure visible from the street to protect our bikes from the weather/sun. Do you know off hand what section I should look into of the municipal code to determine if that's legal? I checked out zoning and building sections but couldn't figure anything out. Also, on an aside, do you know, if you legally have to mow your front lawn? —MikeyCrews
2012-07-08 19:07:48 no, why?

2012-07-09 17:14:32 Thanks, Tom. —Dr.Baker
2012-07-11 15:15:39 Thanks Tom. I've been following that one for years. Funny thing, I was there the day they posted the signs up. No one said anything about it, and a few of the employees were caught off guard as well. They are being offered employment where available, but many either cannot commute or cannot move to the new locations. Both the Davis and Woodland locations for Wendy's are owned by a franchise that has 13 other locations and the word is that they are preparing to build a new location more central to both cities. Possible locations include the corner across the street from Carl's Junior or near the Best Buy in Woodland. Time will tell if this happens though. —Wes-P
2012-07-11 16:11:20 Speaking of the fast food giants, did you know Subway is the number one fast food place worldwide, having beaten McDonalds last year? —JabberWokky
2012-07-16 18:01:58 Yeah, I'm pretty self-conscious about that sort of thing. I'm also aware that comments like that do raise the possibility that I could be identified, although in this case the possibility seemed slim. I think someone would already have to have a pretty good guess at my identity to be able to glean anything from the fact that I was at the restaurant today. If that person has already figured me out, saw me at the restaurant today, and kept silent about the whole thing, I think I can continue to trust them. I have certainly said things that gave away my identity to a far greater degree. Now, if I said that I was *going* to be somewhere at a certain date/time, that's another story entirely...
Anyway, in this case the comment I responded to seemed to so totally misrepresent the state of affairs that I felt it was worth the small risk of dropping one further bit of information about myself (that I like the restaurant already being known).
Somewhat relatedly, half of me loves this time of year because it's so quiet, and half of me fears that the local businesses won't make it through the summer. Thus the comment struck me in the vein of "in case it weren't hard enough..."
2012-07-19 11:44:52 Yeah, I knew what it was. Bail was also reduced. It's more of a "here's another point for the timeline", especially as the Enterprise reported on it. —JabberWokky
2012-07-24 15:04:36 Black Lion is delicious. You should try it sometime. Thanks fo the info, I'll ask next time I'm in the neighborhood! —jsbmeb
2012-07-24 16:54:42 I haven't been there. Where is it? I can put that on my to-try list. And speaking of beer, we may be late lovers of Firestone, but have you tried/like? —jsbmeb
2012-07-25 10:05:49 I used to drive by that old gas station all the time. Will definitely try. Thanks! :) —jsbmeb
2012-07-25 22:58:00 strictly speaking in theory, if all roommates signed it over to one couldn't that one could cash it and disperse it? —StevenDaubert
2012-07-26 14:51:15 In your opinion, in regards to the apartments section, what do you suggest i change so that the photos i put up are less promotional? —FIip1770DE
2012-07-27 09:36:50 I completely understand now. Thanks for the heads up. I see where you guys are coming from. I'll keep all of in mind in any future changes i make. —FIip1770DE

2012-08-04 12:06:10 Thanks for your suggestions, Tom! I'll give Morningstar and Costco salmon burgers a shot. —ScottMeehleib
2012-08-08 15:59:41 Welcome to the neighborhood! I have to agree: the only reason I don't shop at Westlake more often is due to their lack of seafood. When they first opened, they had a fish department that was on par with the Co-op, with fresh sushi rolled everyday and wild-caught options. Alas, the demand wasn't there so I can't blame them for downsizing. However, now that you're on this side of town, you'll grow to appreciate its presence and rue any day you have to brave the Covell Safeway or the long trek to Nugget. I'll still go to Nugget for heavy grocery shopping, but for everyday ingredients and items and easy access to fresh produce, Westlake is a wonderful option to have. —KevinWan
2012-08-12 20:56:27 Aww, well Robin was a dear! I did add myself to the pet sitting list, but it's really only a side thing to survive the summer. I don't get my next TA paycheck until November. —MeggoWaffle

Possibly :) I'll probably be making some sort of Relay donation, but I might wait until we get closer to Relay season. I usually have friends on several teams. I miss it... it must be 5 years since I was last on a team. —tg

2012-11-21 21:17:03 Wow. —DonShor
2012-11-21 22:53:02 My 'wow' was in response to that whole conflict from start to finish. I don't think there was much basis for any consensus-based editing to occur. Good effort on your part, though. —DonShor
2012-11-22 00:14:57 Haha! Wow, Tom, you're really going straight for the vegetarian-jugular with that photo. —ScottMeehleib
2012-11-22 00:18:54 Happy Thanksgiving btw! I felt bad for you when I saw the talk page earlier. I don't think you should be demonized for your writings about your sensory perception of food items. ;) —ScottMeehleib
2012-11-22 08:34:13 Wow, that grilled turkey picture is really a stick in the eye. You know where I stand on the chicken wing page, but can't we have a page that celebrates (or curses, as the case may be) our live, local turkeys? How about moving that picture to the Thanksgiving page? —CovertProfessor
2012-11-22 10:40:36 Hey Tom, I know you took it down already, but just wanted to reiterate the sentiment that the bqq'd turkey photo was an insensitive move. I expected better from you. —jefftolentino
2012-11-22 11:03:49 Did you grill that turkey or was it a picture from the Internet? Regardless of all the previous couple days' drama, it looks delicious and I've always been curious about grilling turkey. —LoriOrf
2012-11-22 11:33:27 Thanks for taking the turkey down. —CovertProfessor

2013-01-03 19:31:37 I'm with you on the mushu pork and shanghai chowmein, but I wasn't into the General's Chicken at Shanghai Town. —MikeyCrews
2013-01-04 11:22:09 It was a little chewy for me, though I did I enjoy it more as leftovers. Overall though, I think that place has place has surpassed HomeTown for me. —MikeyCrews

2013-01-30 17:05:09 Hey Tom—is it legal for her to call out a tenant like this??? Seems kind of defamatory when we don't know that the previous poster is the person she named. —PeteB
2013-02-01 17:33:47 I added Wheelchair access to the Templates/Restaurant and plan to add it to the other templates. I think it's a really good idea??? —PeteB
2013-02-13 16:12:21 I'm confused by the binders full of women comment about the Bookstore. What's the reference? —ArmyDecoy
2013-02-14 12:17:14 I guess my confusion stems from the fact that 49% of the staff are women and that number carries fairly well through the org chart as well. —ArmyDecoy
2013-03-08 00:37:01 That would actually be an interesting thing in a beer tasting or class: have some older beer (clearly labelled) to demonstrate the taste difference. I think porter goes from fruity to metallic (or at least dropping that open, fruity taste) with age, but I'm not sure. —JabberWokky
2013-03-09 21:24:11 Call me late to the party, but I'm just now reading your comments on the Chicken Wings pages and I almost died laughing. Thank you for that! —BrianPakpour
2013-03-19 21:11:37 Good to see Tom—missed your smiling face around here. Were you on your long-planned vaca or just hiding??? —PeteB
2013-03-21 09:59:14 I added option 3, because I generally do prefer opinions and subjective stuff in the entry. I would have gone for option 1, but what has driven me crazy since 2005 is when people feel that their random five word comment is so holy it can never, ever, be removed or integrated. Especially when it's random/off-topic.
I guess the tl;dr: I like subjective stuff in the main entry, but don't think they should be untouchable and permanent. Hence, option 3. Aim for that, but let's just cut the crap now and then. —EdWins
2013-03-21 09:59:46 ttl;dr: march madness games on, buggering off now :P —EdWins
2013-03-23 20:54:53 I think I saw a comment a couple days ago in which you mentioned that your wife recently become a DVM. If so, congratulations! I'm sure it took a lot of hard work. Vet is tough but definitely rewarding. I'm in the very beginning stages of my vet career but it's been great thus far. —LoriOrf
2013-04-10 20:46:03 I agree with your sentiments about yelp. I find it useful even though I think it's extortion. I haven't tried four square yet, but have had people tell me it will soon make yelp irrelevant. —MikeyCrews
2013-05-07 10:38:43 Thanks Tom =) —MeggoWaffle
2013-05-21 17:25:27 No, the secret is adding cream cheese, shallots, and dijon mustard =) —MeggoWaffle
