I worked at Blockbuster for the first couplke of years, which was great because it allowed me to get a feel of the people here in town. After that I worked for Bizarro World Comics and now have moved on to Droms Comics and Cards.	+ My personal history in this business dates back to 1976 when, as a small boy at the age of four, my eyes caught the first glimpse of the comic medium. It was an issue of Green lantern sitting in the rack at a small ice cream shop near my home. Every day for quite a while I would run by this shop and just stare into the window at this book. I wanted it so badly, but could not buy it, even at the paltry $.15 price. One afternoon the shop owner saw me outside and asked me what i was staring at and I told him. He said if I wanted the book I could have it if I swept off his porch first. I did and my very first comic hit my hands. I couldn't read it and had to have help from my brother at first, but as I learned to read, I couldn't get enough. newspapers, comics, even dictionaries... I had to read all the time. I suppose that's where a lot of my morals came from too. I learned a work ethic and understood the value of working for what you wanted, saving for what you desired and knew there was no quick way to do anything that was worth it. I also learned that sometimes, just because you don't wear a cape or a cowl you can still be a hero for some.

- Been a hermit for the most part, but I love my life at the shop. You can tell a lot about a person by the types of things they collect and read, so I suppose that's a big part of it. In any sense. I love my job. I love the people of Davis, for the most part, and that's the only reason I stay here. Anyway.. Not much of a braggart, so I guess that's about all I have to say myself at this time.	+ A lot of people think of comic guys and relate them to the character from the Simpsons television show, but it's just not a true depiction of the majority. In many ways we are like bartenders for kids, they come in and ask advice, they come in with problems, they come in with news both good and bad.. it's always fun. I enjoy helping out families and make sure that the kids know what value work has, giving the parents deals sometimes like free packs of cards or comics with the understanding that if the child were to receive it they had to work for it.. either in school or by doing some chores for the parents... That's the most important thing I wish to convey to the younger generation.. the value of work.. The second most important thing is the value of reading and how it can free the mind and give hope for the future by broadening your horizons in ways you never understand until you truly begin to love the written word. + + Had a few bumps in my life's journey, and after my fiance passed away several years ago I became a hermit for the most part, but I love my life at the shop. You can tell a lot about a person by the types of things they collect and read, so I suppose that's a big part of why i enjoy it. In any sense, I love my job.
