William as a contemplative pirate.
William Lewis does not sleep. Ever. Allegedly. Especially not for 11 hours straight after an all-nighter.
William earned a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from UC Davis in 2009. He is now looking for a real job and would prefer it if he could stay in this awesome town. Someone please hire him!
William likes bicycles because they're fun to work on and you can feel like you're flying when you're riding one. He's a bit of an information junkie who can't stand it when people screw up articles on the wiki to promote their own interests (e.g. all of Steve Ostrowski's edits, Paul Petrovich). He at one time lived with wikignome DavidPoole and ubertrollpolitical provocateur BrentLaabs. He now lives with network guru NickSchmalenberger.
He is an officer-at-large in Psi Phi, the fraternity of the future. He also "started" the Society of Wiki Historical Researchers.
You might want to watch your step around him, or else he might just
steal your accordion.

This may or may not be an ambiguation page. Someone, somewhere, hoped you might feel more or less ambiguated. | |
| Questionable Relevance — This entry does not have to do with Steve Ostrowski, ASUCD, or the Davis Wiki itself but rather with the real Davis, and thus does not belong on this wiki. Please bitch about it on the talk entry. |

2009-11-12 09:34:14 Nice catch on the Services: Wireless ISP. That's the kind of thing that drives me nuts when I notice it. I was more concerned with boiling down the content to the salient points during that edit. —JabberWokky
2009-11-16 11:38:09 The mash tun is the middle vessel, there is a "false bottom" in the bottom of that one. The boil kettle is the left vessel. All three vessels can be heated directly underneath. The right vessel is called the hot liquor tank. If you are interested in learning more about brewing you should come to a Greenbelt brewers association meeting, Details are on the daviswiki. Also there is an exclusive brewwiki that has lots of details too on the process. Cheers! —matiasek

2009-11-25 00:59:42 Oh, I don't suspect you. If I weren't completely overwhelmed in my classes I'd be there too. Its kind of unfair to criticize a movement while I sit on my ass at home. —AndrewPotter
2009-11-27 14:07:25 Darn you... in deleting that comment, you set off my vandalism alarm, which is now paging me every four minutes that there's been a suspicious edit. :) —JabberWokky

2009-12-02 14:25:14 Yeah, I agree it was a horrible survey all around. I don't feel strongly about deleting it, one way or the other. With that said, what I saw as important was that the survey was done at all, that a student in a community college in Illinois(?) attempted to engage our local Wiki community about Wiki use. Perhaps it could have been moved to Wiki Community with some subtitle, similar to the recent Wiki Community/Ask the Community contact by a Davis Enterprise reporter. Granted, an inexperienced student attempting to grasp and/or change Wiki use is different from a reporter's documentation of businesses benefiting from the local Davis Wiki. But my thinking in retaining it (in whatever form) was to simply document that Wiki engagement occurred. Philip has already redeleted it anyway. <shrugs> —robinlaughlin
2009-12-02 16:18:17 I forgot to reply to it, but I did read your facebook message a few weeks back. Holy shit man, talk about crazy. Anyway, I'd completely agree with leaving that alone and the page unchanged from it's current state. I prefer it this way by far. —EdWins

Riiiiiiighht.... because being a successful professor doesn't involve interacting with people. *rolls eyes* Maybe it's just that most professors would rather keep doing what they are doing, eh? —CovertProfessor
-
Being a successful professor means minimizing your interaction with administrators so that you can actually get research done. Right? —BrentLaabs
-
Ah, true enough. But you said that lawbots are better at interacting with people, not that they were better at interacting with administrators. Thus, you are making the questionable assumption that administrators are people. —cp

Touché. —BrentLaabs

I think he was talking about interacting with students more. —hankim

Students? If you're still interacting with students, you're obviously not very high up the UC food chain. —BrentLaabs

2009-12-21 00:02:11 Hello, you had several comments on the page I created, and I rectified several things accordingly. However, I disagree that I cannot make a page for my friend. If you look under the "People" section of this daviswiki, few are designated to be "public figures", but rather just short entries or biographies of interesting people in Davis. After all, this IS Daviswiki. —JohnDavis
2009-12-21 00:11:57 Ah, right. Sorry, I misunderstood the People section. —JohnDavis
2009-12-22 11:26:46 Whups. Nice catch on the "too far back reverts". I was about to go back through again. You fixed the fix before I could fix them. :) —JabberWokky

2009-12-26 10:00:02 Thanks for removing the comment attacking another Wikian. Seems to me there really ought to be some kind of informal code of conduct at a Wiki. —DonShor

2010-01-21 11:48:03 I wasn't sure if "Premiere" might be a category of sanctioned events. If it's just a random superlative, it should go away, but if it designates a category, it should probably stay. Do you play CCGs? —JabberWokky
2010-01-21 12:03:26 Okay, no worries then. Thanks for checking. I never really got into CCGs... they appeared long after I had gotten into gaming, and — other than a brief fling with NetRunner — I've never really played any. Non-CCG card games, sure. But the whole "power through collection" thing never appealed to me. —JabberWokky
2010-01-22 19:37:21 I tried to answer the question on Wiki help, but found that I didn't have any empathy for an organizational account that has been editing since 2007 and has only editing what they refer to as "their" page and wants someone else to archive more comments for them as there is already a comment archive on the page. Do you see any hope for that page or is it going to turn into a place where business owners using organizational accounts come to demand that volunteer editors act as their personal web editors in order to clean up "their" business pages so that there are no negative comments showing? Please tell me that you think that it will serve a productive purpose. Seriously I think this may be the first time I started out to edit a reply and couldn't find a nice or reasonable way to word a reply (<grin>I said find, I didn't say that there haven't been edits where I've strayed from the high road when appropriate</grin>). —JasonAller
-
If I might interject — this isn't the first request for archiving we've seen. Maybe step-by-step instructions for how to do it, and then we could just point all such people there? (and handle other "requests" similarly). —CovertProfessor
2010-01-25 02:06:29 That "review" of Drom's actually caused me to chuckle in the same way a stalking kitten looks cute: "I'm BADASS!" I'm not zotting it immediately just so the smell of it gets in everybody's nostrils. That reeks of chicanery and a brief viewing of it (maybe half a day?) is probably healthy. —JabberWokky
2010-01-25 08:59:36 So there are also restrictions on posting positive comments? Make it positive but not too positive, otherwise I am a "sockpuppet"? —Risky
2010-01-25 11:44:55 It would seem then that there may be at least one unbiased Wiki-head then. If the shoe doesn't fit, toss it aside. I am just commenting on what I see. I bowed out of the /talk drama because it was A) obviously becoming more and more onesided and even accusatory of the WIki, and B) because it was only becoming more negative for all involved. Now it seems all the edits I see are favoring Bizarro including a link on the Droms page like the one that was removed from the Bizarro World Page after he moaned about it. Both links were created by Wiki Volunteers. So now I continually remove that link from the Droms page since it is ridiculous to have it without also having it's inverse on the Bizarro Page and it is redundant since both links are on my personal page to begin with.
Anyway, the whole jumping on customer comments thing is old. If you didn't do it, fine, but the others need to stop now. It has nothing to do with the old drama, just have them drop it and all will be well. This whole Wiki-War thing is getting old very rapidly. —WesOne
2010-01-25 12:56:53 could you please add the links as appropriate, I have the text, but am not sure on how to edit the actual link. Thank you. —WesOne
2010-01-25 23:31:32 I can't imagine Gary could be *that* far off... I have a funny feeling they have the same menu, new focus. Still, it's probably enough to kick out a new entry. If you do swing by, ask about ownership, hours, etc. I'll hold off cross linking and such if there's question. —JabberWokky
2010-01-27 11:01:07 I guess I assumed the featured page changed every day, and seeing as it hasn't changed in a few days it didn't seem to be a problem. —JohnathanQuigley
2010-01-27 11:01:24 Would you like to start a discussion about it, or just delete it without discussion and consider the case closed? —JohnathanQuigley
2010-01-27 11:46:40 Wow. Somehow I completely mis-judged the tone of your last comment on my user page, and responded in an entirely inappropriate way. On re-reading, I realize you were being quite polite and non-standoffish. I wish I could take back my other two comments on this page. Sorry. I do hope you'll offer up some advice on the Featured Page for me. —JohnathanQuigley
2010-01-28 08:31:53 An edit comment of "kindly get off the wiki and kill yourself." is way over the line, William. That's well into a being a personal attack. The edit (IMO) was inane, but there's a difference between a harsh comment on the action versus a harsh comment on the person. And yes, I'm as frustrated as you... but please keep things civil on the wiki, or it just turns stupid very very quickly. (It actually kind of reminded me of when Mike got drunk and I thought somebody had gotten his password). And if I step over the line into a personal attack on the wiki, feel free to call me out on it. There's enough dumb rolling around in the last few weeks to make anybody get spiteful. —JabberWokky

2010-01-28 11:46:51 Hello William, I am confused as to why you are deleting our contributions to our apartment pages. We have been using this user name to provide helpful updates to potential residents for quite some time without any problems. We always label our updates clearly as “announcements from management.” We are respectful of other users posts and never delete or edit any comments. Why are you deleting our updates? While I respect your opinion that you’d like to see us use our actual names, please understand that this is a business screen name. The person updating is not always the same, and we issue only updates on behalf of the company. Any updates not related to Tandem Properties, are of course done with individual screen names as the use of a business name in that context would be inappropriate. Please do not unfairly remove our posts as we too have a right to contribute helpful content to a community based page. —ChautauquaManagement
2010-01-28 12:23:54 Hello William. Please understand that our reason for using a business name because it is very important for us to do what is respectful and appropriate in a community based web setting. We have set up this account with a business name to avoid the mingling of personal opinions which don’t belong linked with our general apartment updates. As apartment management staff members, we work hard to keep our “work” opinions general. For example at work, we don’t evoke personal religious opinions, as doing so might be seen as a way of isolating renters with other such opinions. I fear that by forcing us to use individual names for apartment updates, you will remove our ability to contribute open opinions on other matters in our free time. I believe the user CovertProfessor uses a name other than his own for a similar reason. I’m confused as to why the same understanding cannot be expressed to us. —ChautauquaManagement
2010-01-28 20:33:07 so I shouldn't share my reactions with the wiki community cause what I think has nothing of value? —StevenDaubert
2010-01-30 11:23:29 Hey, yeah I'm not a fan of two tables, either, but I was more interested in just filling in relevant information to the French major. If you can find a way to make it look better, go for it. Thanks for your help. —AliPezeshkpour
2010-01-30 21:39:01 Sorry, you're right. I just lost track of all of the edits. —CovertProfessor
2010-01-31 17:59:27 Well yeah, I take it that one of the reasons that Brian obsesses over the page for his business is that he overinflates the importance of it. But it's also important to note (as Jason reminded us recently) that Brian was the person who wrote
this. So, while his claim that he is concerned about what happened to Help Computer Services is touching, I don't really buy it. —CovertProfessor
2010-01-31 18:06:36 And since then, he's repeatedly proved himself to be exactly that amateurish, both as a business person and as a computer technician. —CovertProfessor
I have fixed almost every single computer I have ever been asked to fix with the exception of about two laptops. - Brian

2010-02-02 23:06:05 "petty vandalism"? What is your problem, William?
2010-02-02 23:10:47 Who the fuck do you think you are? Talk about it. Stop acting like you own this place. If it is a privately owned Wiki, then say so on the front page. I am not vandalizing. I am trying to help YET ANOTHER frustrated business owner. —DonShor

2010-02-02 23:14:11 Ok, let's try discussing it. You keep reverting. There is a talk page. Stop acting like a jerk. —DonShor
2010-02-03 01:20:44 So what is the deal with price lists? I wouldn't mind fixing 'em as I run across them. Just not sure what is acceptable and what isn't. —MichellePalmer

2010-02-06 14:11:51 Thanks for the collaboration on Templates/Apartments/Temp. Question: I understand not having headers without information on a live page... but on a template, can it be a placeholder - only to be used if the information exists? If we all agree in theory about the benefits and general style on a section for apartment managers to leave notices, shouldn't we recognize that in a template? —KemblePope

AHHH, disabling... got it. learning the language! —KemblePope
2010-02-06 14:45:19 Weird editing glitch? —CovertProfessor
