This needs a talk page to discuss things meta- to the entry. I like keeping things organized this way, call me old fashioned if you will.
Anyway, this page has a few problems with community relevance, redundancy of the information and copyright.
The relevance is clear, as in the title, this is a community wiki and honestly I am not sure how the effect of alcohol on the genera of things (human bodies) is really relevant to the particular class of things that are in and around Davis, e.g. the community. The history of alcohol in the community, the research done on campus, cheap sources of alcohol, drunk driving/bui statistics, those are relevant to Davis, physiological effects, those are something best for wikipedia, medline, or other source of irrelevant info.
Redundancy — see alcohol.
Copyright, this has stock photos which I am sure are not from Davis, though I wouldn't be surprised if they are under some nice copyright. Note that if they are released here by whomever has a copyright, they now are subject to our copy right (creative commons I think, right?).
Proposal— Delete page, move relevant information to fitting page, most likely alcohol, sow a few seeds for article expansion there. Execution will occur— unless there is some decent outcry or changes to the page— sometime near the end of this week (June - 13).
Thoughts or suggestions? Discuss!

David, I agree with everything you've said, including your desire to use the talk page for meta-entry discussion.
The entry as-is has very little specifically to do with Davis (except for that little blurb at the bottom, added to address this).
At any rate, I think anything related to the community that could be put in this article would be better placed in the main alcohol entry.
I agree with deleting this page. —JonathanLawton
2008-06-10 13:44:34 I was initially for, then against deleting the page. Now that it has been rendered down to the local relevance and had the copyrighted info deleted, I'm leaning somewhat back toward merging it with Alcohol... but I'm also happy seeing it as a little stub that can grow. Somebody should probably add to it, but I'm out of ideas. —JabberWokky
2008-06-10 14:02:15 I'm with Jabberwokky on this. At first, I thought, "Why not?" To me, there are a lot of seemingly irrelevant topics on Davis Wiki. But when you consider our community, they are relevant, and, beneficial to the Wiki community at large. For example, UC Davis is a huge element of Davis. The fact is we have a large student population. And I think issues facing students (e.g substance abuse, alcohol poisoning, et al) should be addressed even though this is information that can be found on the web. This was my argument for starting up the ADHD page. The difference is that these issues should be addressed in a Davis-centric manner. Also, it is a great way for students to not only find information, but learn from other Davis residents who may have experienced the same thing. It is a great support network. I think this is beneficial to people. Also, where appropriate, including Davis resources is also helpful. While we don't just want sterile, book-report type information, but sometimes offering some background on a topic is useful.
Having said all that, I think that this page would be better suited as a subsection of the Alcohol page. —CurlyGirl26
2008-06-10 20:50:30 As a parent, I think you can't have too much information about the effects of alcohol and drugs in a college community. If "cheap sources of alcohol" is relevant to Davis, then so is information about binge drinking, alcohol toxicity, and information about how and where to get help. There was an obvious local angle. However, the most recent edit has basically killed the page. So you might as well put it out of its misery if it isn't going to be restored. —DonShor
Just curiously has anyone thought about the problems involved with the over prevalence of caffeine in our college culture, I mean.. cheap sources of coffee and all, this stress makes folk want to scream anyway. ~DP
The only reason I chopped it down was because it was entirely full of content that we do not have permission to use. I would love to see the content you're talking about, but we need to do it without just swiping other people's work. You could write Dateline and see if they will release the article you had copied under Creative Commons or you could add original content to the entry. Don't give up on it just because it requires work... otherwise no entry would have ever been written. —JabberWokky
2008-06-11 08:38:19 Dateline? What are you talking about? The article I cited was from UC Davis News & Views, or whatever it's called. —DonShor

It's called Dateline, or Dateline UC Davis. —jw
2009-01-21 17:23:29 I tried to remove some of the unnecessary data, tone down the language, and take out the seventy five or so links to anti-alcohol related websites. A good addition would be a basic overview of the benefits of small amounts of alcohol in moderation. —JoePomidor
2009-01-21 18:59:37 I tried to trim it down to facts and remove some of the more "alcohol is evil" type statements. Added the stuff about alcohol poisoning and more health info. —AndrewPeake
